  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'll try and explain this the best I can..

When ever I drive the car on a cold morning or evening, there seems to be a cold area on the drivers side, just about the height between your elbow and top of your shoulder (hard to explain) and basically feels like there is cold air blowing on me (even with heat turned on). It goes away after about 5 to 10 minutes.

Now before you all go crazy and tell me it's the vent from the left hand side of steering wheel, that's what i thought it was too, but i've shut it off and turned it away and i can still feel it...

I've thought it might be the seal, but i've put my hand around the window and didn't sense anything. Also thought it might be the AC vents in the back, blowing to the back seats and coming forward again but that's a bit far fetched...

Any ideas? is there a magic vent i don't know about?

I have the tech package.

Thanks in advance.

If you are talking about the 2015 Sedan, I suspect the cold air is coming out of the defroster vent on top of the dash. In winter I run it with the A/C off (push the A/C button).

Might be the side-window de-mist vent on the top of the dash bouncing off the cold window. Turn off the HVAC and see if the cold air stops. If not, check the door seal for leaks.
My wife complains of something similar on the passenger side, but I haven't had time to investigate yet.

I noticed the same thing and ruled out the vents. I think I narrowed it down to the air coming through the door and out around the window control panel. I haven't investigated to see where it might be coming in from but I suspect it is where the wires come into the door.

You could be right, it was cold this morning and i could feel it, even turned off the air and i'm sure i could still feel a slight breeze coming from that vent..

I would be interested in hearing from others if that's what it is...

Just got the new 2015 Genesis 3.8 and I have experienced the same cool air flow. Not sure where it was come from. I even checked the moon roof. My next thought was may be it was coming from the heater. I was set on 75 auto, and just thought that the thermostat was trying not to let the car go over 75 by cooling the interior. If you find out, let me know.

Hey Sugrat, I may have found the culprit of the unsuspecting cool air. If your Genesis is anything like mind, try this. On your console or dashboard, push the climate button. Next, on the climate screen {LCD} read the choices. I have 3; smart ventilation, auto defog and one other option (can't remember it without running back to my car). I believe that the smart ventilation is bring in the cool air. If after reading the option and you don't want the smart ventilation on, disable it. I choose to leave my on. Hopes this fixes your concern. :)

This might be common knowledge but I haven't seen it mentioned here, and it might help with troubleshooting: in all cars I've ever been in/owned, when the vents are set to fresh instead of recirc the air pathways are open and /some/ air can be felt even if the entire HVAC system is set to off.

So try putting the vents on recirc and then turn the system off. See if there's still airflow then (there shouldn't be.)

I think you have solved it, the past couple of days have been cold in the morning and after disabling that feature, i don't feel the "breeze" of cold air...

Thank you!!
