  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Started building a 4.6 intake

Pricing is about right - it will be another $20-40 depending on what you do for the heat shield. Still a very cost effective solution for any intake. The end result looks fantastic.

The only difference i see between this one and the one we built is the tube diameter. WE used a 4" instead of 3.5". Interested to see if that impacts anything. Most likely not in any way that would be noticeable.

You guys will love the sound of this thing. It's LOUD.

Very Happy with this. It actually reduced the noise of my Magnaflow exhaust drone when at 5-10% throttle. Otherwise, very loud at 80% throttle.

EDIT: Just to let everyone know that I was not charged additional brokerage when I received the package.

Turned out very nice indeed. Great job. Now on to the heat shield!

Yes. Any advice on how to get started?

Buy a sheet of aluminum - 16ga is what i used. Measure, bend, cut and repeat. lol. You pretty much need to just build yourself a template from cardboard and match it out on the aluminum. It's a PITA, but not really difficult.

How long is the MAF on the 4.6? I have a 5.0 and was considering doing something like this but couldn't find the mock up kit locally. I'm thinking all i would have to do is get the 100 degree elbow a little longer since the 5.0 doesn't have a MAF.

84 Ford,

why did you go from a 4" to a 3.5" tube? Is it a performance diff or was it just for the sound?

For better fitment/clearance. It made sense to me when I was installing mine.

^ This.

I did drive around for about a week with the 4", the sound and "power" was no different between the two sizes.

As I mentioned in the another thread, I made the jump to a V8. Owing to the fact that I have a ton on piping and couplers from past projects, I was able to fashion a 3.5" intake for my new ride.

I tried to get a more gentle curve to mine versus the abrupt 90+ degree turn right out of the TB, which necessitated the removal of the stock duct. This required me to extend the stock vacuum line with a 5/8" coupler and heater hose.

The filter extends all the way to where the headlight unit meets the body, so it's a perfect fit and as far from the engine as possible.
