"Check Haptic Steering Wheel System"

Hey Everyone,

Just got the alert to check my Haptic Steering Wheel System. With only 4000 miles on my new Genesis, I'm super bummed out. Already scheduled a day to bring it into the dealership.

Has anyone experienced the same, or similar problems? Also, how concerned should I be?

Does it give you the Haptic Feedback error warning but still give a vibration when using Lane Keep Assist, or does it give the error and not allow Lane Keep to turn on? Either one sounds like a simple diagnosis for your dealer.

What I'd like to know is what system they use to tell when you don't have your hands on the wheel!

I got same message one day, I think I had around 6K miles on it. It went away the next day.

This happened to me once. Light stayed on for a few minutes and I was concerned so I intentionally triggered the system to see if it would persist and it went away.

Well i want it to do the automatic steering. I cant turn off the constant vibration separately. Friggen thing vibrates any time i touch the lane divider and rarely steers it back unless conditions are perfect

Have you checked to see if your have your system set to Pre Departure mode?

Run the System check and if it clears and doesn't come back on, I would think you would be OK. Snap some pics of it first so you have proof for when you go in for your next oil change.

Just got this last week for the first time. Lane keep and visual warnings still worked but the vibrations quit. Worked again once it was turned off and back on, been fine since. I've had several of these kinds of 'tech bugs' with the car in 10 months of ownership. The radar has gone out before and I get a warning about how emergency braking is not functioning, but it doesn't last long (sometimes it comes back on the same drive, always fine after it's started again). Sometimes parking assist will fire off alerts when I'm not near anything, usually for a few seconds to a minute. Sometimes the wheel will jerk pretty dramatically and I have to force it not to send me into the next lane. I'm guessing that's due to the construction zone of a freeway I commute through every day, lots of patches and different color road materials.

I've mentioned these things to the dealer and get a deer in headlights look in response, followed by a 'these are all new systems and we're still figuring them out' and a 'bring it back if anything persists.' I understand that they can't look into it if there are not warning lights at the time. All of these things have been pretty rare and sporadic individually.

I had this happen once in a driving rain storm. As soon as the rain let up it fixed itself. I think this is normal as it mentions it in the manual.

I've gotten this error/warning message twice over the past week. Both times I just immediately force triggered the system and it went away. Not overly worried about it after seeing other that had the same issue. I have about 1,500 miles on the car after the first 4 weeks and I've seen it twice within the past 300 miles.

Definitely something I will keep an eye on. Love these forums.

mine came on. car has 300 miles. brought car in and they are going to replace the haptic motor. is kind of f up if u ask me. had the car only 4 days. but god i love the way this car feels.

You don't have to be concerned about this; it happened with me; and the haptic feedback would still work. I asked the dealer; they said it could be related to dust/dirt on the front glass in front of the grille or on the detection cameras.

Not true. When cel comes on the haptic feedback is turned off until cel goes away.

Same thing just happened to me. 4100 miles on my new Genesis. Based on other posts here, I think I'll wait before taking it in--maybe during my first regular service. Unless, of course, I notice the steering feedback system actually malfunctioning, which I haven't. Hoping the alert goes away on its own, as others are reporting. Regardless, I'll report it to the dealer--there might be a software update that fixes it.

When you shut the car off, let sit, then restart it, is the alert gone? If so, then I would not do anything unless it comes back on.

This just happened to me while driving last night. I heard a beep while on the road then the warning appeared on the dash "check haptic steering system" with the orange triangle warning. Weird thing was I tested the LKAS and the steering wheel still did alert me and steered me back into my lane. 5 minutes later the warning disappeared. I'll run a system check later when I get back into my car to see what happens.
