  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

"Check Haptic Steering Wheel System"

This just happened to me while driving last night. I heard a beep while on the road then the warning appeared on the dash "check haptic steering system" with the orange triangle warning. Weird thing was I tested the LKAS and the steering wheel still did alert me and steered me back into my lane. 5 minutes later the warning disappeared. I'll run a system check later when I get back into my car to see what happens.

This is exactly what has happened twice with mine. once at 4500 mi, again at 6500mi. goes away before i can get my camera out to take a pic

This has happened to me as well. I had the warning come on, left the car over night, and when I started it in the morning it was still on.

I started to freak out, but as someone else on here mentioned, I noticed that the lane sensors were still on, so I just went over a line in the road and car acted as it should, and the warning turned off.

Hopefully, just small bug that can be worked out with a firmware update.

I had this warning several months ago on a trip in lots of ice and snow where the radar and sensors were posting continuous warnings because of ice buildup. Once the ice buildup went away so did all the warnings, have not seen it since.

The haptic steering wheel system is the thing that buzzes the wheel in your hand to chide you for going outside the lines. I don't think its loss would affect the actual steering.

Hey Everyone,

Just got the alert to check my Haptic Steering Wheel System. With only 4000 miles on my new Genesis, I'm super bummed out. Already scheduled a day to bring it into the dealership.

Has anyone experienced the same, or similar problems? Also, how concerned should I be?

Thanks

I drive a 2017 G80. (4,600 mi.) Yesterday got the same message as I started the car. Did not know what to do, so I called the dealership. The service technician had no idea what that message meant and had never encountered it. I decided to drive to the dealership and suddenly after I had driven several blocks, the 4 tire pressure monitor popped up. Decided to turn around and go back where I could personally check tires. No low pressure, But I evened out the pressure on all four tires and the icon/warning disappeared. I'll call "Genesis Central" tomorrow/ Monday to ask a few questions.

It's an anomaly. Happened to me once about 5,000 miles ago. Never since.

came on couple weeks ago after hitting a dip on the highway but went away within a minute

The haptic feedback system generally only faults in two instances:

1. The haptic motor has seized or its power load is insufficient.

2. You've activated it too many times in a 5 minute period. The haptic feedback system is a very low duty cycle design, if you get 1 second of vibration you'll need 20 seconds to cool down. If you get a lot of activations, like say ride a line for a minute, you'll trip a duty cycle interlock to forcibly cool the motor.

I got the warning this morning going to work. Due for oil change so made an appointment and told them about the problem. Steering Wheel also makes noise turning left. I also noticed I have discoloration on the airbag below the badge. I noticed when it was size of quarter now it spread all across the bottom of the badge. More to come... Service tech all seemed clueless about the Haptic Steering warning. Not a good sign.

This is very good information, thanks.

I found that stuff super annoying and turned off

The only aids I have on are the Blind Spot Warning, Emergency Braking and Traction Control.

Yesterday under warranty, the Haptic Controller was replaced per TSB#19-BE-001. The controller assembly part number cited was 56183-B1000. 2015 Genesis mileage was 15,844.

Got this warning last night and it's still there this morning and my steering wheel no longer vibrates. Almost time to change the oil so if it doesn't clear itself I guess it's time to see the dealer. Anyone know if there are any fuses or a reset that can be completed?

Sometimes it's worth pulling & reinserting affected fuses. My nearby Genesis dealer says that they sometimes work themselves loose over time - happened to my AC once about a year ago. Worth a shot before you resort to a dealer visit.

Not sure what happened but on my way home last night my dash light up like a Christmas Tree, flashed off and when it came back on the warning was gone. The active lane keep was turned off but I was able to turn it back on this morning before my ride in. It was driving like it was possessed for the first 10 minutes or so. The steering wheel was constantly going back and forth like it was searching for the side of the lane even though I was on a completely straight road. Then it just stopped and everything was normal the rest of my drive. Hopefully it was just a computer brain fart and it cleared itself out. Going to check all the fuses under the hood and dash this weekend just to make sure everything is tight.

"check haptic steering system" last week. second time in 3 years, first time motor replaced to fix. Last week module replaced. Service guy explained motor parts and labor would've been $3,000 and he wouldn't fix it if out of warranty. All it does is headlights turn with steering wheel. Told him I didn't know Genesis had this luxury feature. On my old BMW 535i, called adaptive headlights they made sure customers know this 'luxury' feature.

mine has about 60k on it and the same thing just happened to me
