Cell Phone Mounting

This may sound like a ridiculously picky question, but I was wondering what solutions others have found for mounting their cell phones in the car. I know there are vent mounts, but that means either cold or hot air is constantly blowing on the back of your cell phone and I wonder the effect on that with longer trips. There are CD mounted holders, but they block the head unit screen. Then there are window and dashboard mounts via a suction cup, but that leaves a difficult-to-remove ring on the windows and dash when it is removed. Also, the outside temperature also affects the suction cups ability to stay in place. I got a cup holder type, but I find that not only does it take up the larger cup holder, but the positioning makes it difficult to utilize the other cup holder because of the way the phone extends. So I know this sounds a little obsessive, but has anyone come across a solution that addresses these issues -- other than the answer of "don't have a cell phone in the car" or "keep it in your pocket"? Thanks.

I'm struggling with this as well. I've always used windshield mounts, but because of the rake of the windshield, no matter where I put my phone (which is a big phone to begin with), it's always too close to my face or blocks my vision. And I definitely need a mount as well because I'm either running Waze or Escort Live.

I called Samsung, since I have an S4, to ask if the cold/warm air coming from the vent directly on to the phone would affect the phone and they said it definitely could, especially if it is blowing for a long period of time. I assume this would apply to all phones, so if anyone is using a vent mount system, you might want to re-think it.
I also tried the 12v connector type holder with a goose neck, but find that it is also difficult to find a good position for it, especially if you use the touch screen on your phone.
Seems like the next concept for the cabin would be a built in adjustable cell phone mount in the design of the dashboard.
Of course, Hyundai could solve this problem by upgrading the head unit to reflect texts and other apps you have installed on your phone and make them accessible via the controls on the steering wheel or by touch or voice (hint! hint! hint! Hyundai people who might read this)

I use a koomis cd mount on my 2011.

rises barely in to the A/C controlls... blocks a button or two... minr inconvenience for the great placement of my phone.

I have an iOttie windshield mount that telescopes. Never has fallen in all conditions, extreme hot and cold.

I could not be happier with it.

I have it set up so that it aligns with the front of the hood. This image shows my view.

Phone is an LG G3.

My favorite place is inside the center console storage area. Placed there I do not have Bluetooth connectivity issues and I'm not tempted to look at it or worse, use it when I should be concentrating on the road.

Does the iottie leave a ring on the windshield when you take it off? If so, how do you clean it? How often do you remove the holder?

Usually the rings can be removed with regular glass cleaner. I've used suction cup mounts for years on other cars and never had a problem. However, some windshields (I know Porsche specifically) have a coating that can be damaged by the suction cups. Does our car have the same type of coating?

cd holder mount won't block the navi screen if mounted in "landscape", but will block a couple of buttons.

I have not taken it off since mounting it there. If it leaves a ring it will be easily removed using elbow grease.

I purchased a mount from Proclip. The mount is customized to fit on the Genesis's center console. Two parts, the mount and adjustable phone holder. Its a perfect fit for a galaxy 5 with otterbox commuter case.

That's a very clean install. I just can't bring myself to drop $70 on a cell phone holder.

That puts the phone very low down, making you take you eyes off the road to do anything with it. I like mine up on the windshield, where I can keep my eyes on the road.

It was almost $120 for what I had picked out. I got all the way to the end of the checkout process before I realized they don't take PayPal. Sorry guys, with all the hacks, I'm gun-shy about whom I give my CC # to.

I use a phone dock on the windshield, up high and to the right of the rearview mirror. It's out of the way in the tint area, but easy to see and reach, especially using Google Maps/Navigation, custom gauges, and so on.
