  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Seel Peeling

mine is exactly like that only all the way across, from side to side. its getting worse it seems, sinking further down over time and sunroof usage. mine doesn't seem to leak, but it wouldn't leak into the car as it isn't a seal for the actual panel to interior. that is a separate seal.

if this did leak water it would run off inside the track portion and out of the car somewhere I suspect.

one thing I notice in the pictures is the fading black on the trim of the glass. mine is not doing that at all and I'd find that to be completely unacceptable.

has anyone, or can anyone email this thread to Hyundai and see what they say? if they know about it, etc?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
My local rep says they are going to take it to a bodyshop for a proper replacement/install. Sounds expensive. Another week without the Genesis. I just want it done right.

Field Rep agreed that this could be a major issue with a lot of early 2015Genesis over time. Hopefully 2016s don't have this issue, when they arrive!

I will post pics as soon as i get it back, but probably not until weekend at the earliest.

Thanks all for your support

I also noticed some fading black on the trim of the glass. It's like "eww" "gross"!

I think with this issue it will be a case by case basis. Too expensive for a recall and probably won't occur to ALL 2015 Genesis, might have been just a specific LOT of them. A specific time during the production process.

My suggestion would be to take it to your dealership and start the process of getting it fixed. The more that occurs, the more field reps involved, which heightens the urgency to solve the matter at a more regional level.

this is really irritating....close to 60k car with this....c'mon. I don't even want to know what all has to come off to replace that roof panel. so far no fading on mine. good luck Shard!

Are you all getting any additional wind noise from it?

I don't have any wind noise from it.

They must be taking some rubber quality recommendations from BMW. My 550i has horrid rubber quality. If it had a penis, it would be a father in no time at all.

^ cracking up.. That is funny..

Hyundai seems to get a bunch of stuff from the Europeans. I experience the feeling the gear and accessories are Expensive and problematic hardware.. Also with questionable reliable electronics like the radar and laser systems. Questionable quality which could hurt the brand as the cars get older. Now we may see the mediocre European rubber?

If the engine starts seeping oil like a sieve, or to stick with the condom reference, like a bad condom your crazy girlfriend got a hold of, we'll know where they got their rubber from.

I am not sure its fare to dump on all European cars' rubber. I have had no issues with Mercedes rubber. I do agree that the longevity of BMW and Jaguar electronics have not been good. The rubber on my 2011 Genesis looks like it did when new, however, I coat it with clear silicone tire black at least twice a year.

+1 on the silicone application to rubber. I just use silicone lubricant that I c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y apply.

Not saying it will help this particular situation, but my owning several convertibles through the years made me a believer in "keeping the rubber seals happy". Anywhere a moving part hits a rubber seal is a strong candidate.

YMMV

Do you mind sharing what product you use? Ty!

I use Black Magic Tire Wet spray bottle. Spray it on a micro fiber rag and wipe the rubber seals and bumpers.

That is an optical illusion. It is not fading and looks like new.

So my ECS light went off. Use to this type of thing by now. Great car... Needs refinement. Anyway. Had a chance to look at all the Genesis on the lot this morning when I dropped off the car. One car on the lot had the seal peel effect full tilt. Was bad. Terrible. The others... Can tell the process is in initial stages. Even the car on the showroom floor.

I hope when they sell theses cars of the lot they point out this issue to potential buyers. Otherwise that's just wrong. Integrity.

So...if any of you have a chance, next time ur at a Hyundai Dealership, take a look at other Genesis. I know. I'm Debby Downer on this issue. But the Truth is Real.

I checked the new Hyundai dealer near my house about a month ago or more. none on the lot had the peeling. I was surprised. they probably haven't been there long. dealer was only open a short while when I went.

took the car in for the recall on the taillights.

had them look at the sunroof seal and at the same time I went to the lot and looked at the seals on the cars there. about 5 of the 10 or so on the lot were starting to show signs of separation. they were also showing signs of seal separation on the front seal that contacts the sunroof when closed. mine does not have that.

they are going to schedule a service rep to come out and I'll bring the car back. I'm not looking for a fix, I just want it documented so that Hyundai is aware and will issue a properly researched, permanent fix. so far mine isn't leaking that I can tell, so as long as it doesn't then I'll wait for a proper Hyundai approved fix.

Hyundai approved fix... Too Funny... Too expensive to be done right. They tried fixing my seal twice, not hyundai but outsourced. After the second time, seal was ok, but wavy instead of straight. And one corner is bent in and downwards. You should see the email I got from Western Rep. Basically told me to except this, and that the other corner would bend in also to match... I replied back saying that it was unacceptable and then got another response saying i need to go to BBB if I want to further pursue this issue...

In the mean time, my ECS light just after being fixed, came on again... So back to Hyundai my Genesis goes.
