If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2011 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Ride is Rougher Than Expected

I am thinking of replacing my Dunlops (which now have for only 8500 miles on them) for Michelin Energy Savers or Conti DWS to improve the ride quality on rough Chicago area roads and to give me better traction in snow this winter. Would the ride quality on my 2010 4.6 also improve if I downsized wheels from 18" Dunlops to 17" Michelin or Conti?
Yes, a little, becasue the Genesis 17" wheels use 55 aspect ratio tires and the Genesis 18" wheels use 50 aspect ratio tires (assuming standard sizes are used). The diameter of both wheels (with tires mounted) is the same, so you are getting 1" extra rubber on tire to make up for 1" smaller rim (or really 1/2" extra rubber between rim and road).

For the best possible ride, I would look at some other Michelin besides the Energy Savers such as Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus for 18" wheels or the Michelin Primacy MXV4 for 17" wheels, or the Goodyear Assurance ComforTred. Energy saver tires get a little better MPG, but are not the absolute best in ride comfort (although the Michelin ones are pretty good).

Drove the 550....I just didn't need that kind of power....didn't see the point....the 535 is really faster than I need or can use and the 535 can pass anything I want on the highway plus goes faster than any 8 cylinder I ever owned........the 535 is a magnificent auto and is so much more comfortable on ny roads with that double wishbone assembly..... Feels almost as comfortable as my 1995 Q45 which was the best car I ever owned..........
The 535 is nothing to be ashamed of. In Germany the 5 Series also has two 4-cylinder gasoline motors, the 520i and 528i (and also 520d and 525d diesels), and all the 4 bangers added together are probably more popular than the 535i or 550i in Deutschland.

I agree,this is my 3rd genesis,I had a 2009 v6,a 2011 v8 & now own a R-Spec.The ride is great.

car crazy 3 you are in a unique position to compare and contrast the ride of the different Genesis. Can you describe the difference in ride quality of the R-spec with the other years? I owned a 2010 3.8 premium and now have the 2012 3.8 tech. I feel that the 2012 ride was "polished" and refined past the 2010 with the result being a slight lessening of the taut feel and the speed and harsh reaction to bumps. I think you have to have compromise with suspensions: a "sporty" suspension is just not going to be as comfortable as a suspension tuned for comfort. I changed out the O.E. Dunlap's for Michelin MXV4s on my 2010 and there was a smoother ride but it also didn't turn as crisp or handle as well.

Hy everyone! I made a small video, where my KDM 3.8 Genny rides on not so good pavement on road to work. So you can judge how comfy or not air suspension is. Different reviewers wrote that air susp geny is even comfier than equus, because in equus they need to stiffer suspension a bit because it weights more.

Man, I thought my town had bad roads....

Just sold my 1999 Mercedes E430 (fabulous car - sorry to let it go) and am now leasing a 2012 Genesis 4.6. The first day I had the Hyundai I noticed a strong difference in the quality of the ride. I felt every bump and crack in the road that I had never noticed before. I'm thinking about trading it in for a new Mercedes E350, but I would have to take an $8k loss on the Hyundai. I like everything else about it, but the jittery ride is a real turnoff.

I'd make sure tire pressure is correct before such a drastic step. Many cars have been delivered with 45 psi rather than 35. See if the dealer is willing to help somehow.

I agree regarding the difference in ride since I have a Mercedes E500 and a Genesis. However, I do not dislike the Genesis ride and actually like driving it on long trips instead of the Merc. I think the Genesis is more of a driver's car a-kin to a stiff ride of a BMW.

I know my comment above might seem absurd to some people, however I have experience with my wife's 2012 Ford Edge that the dealer could not resolve quality sound through the Bluetooth phone integration with the car'a Sync system. She kept bringing the car back,
and they kept doing s/w updates. In the end, it was a design flaw - but she was persistent -- pleasant, but persistent, and the dealer wanted to make her happy. There were no threats of lemon law or anything. She drove the car three months and they did pro-rata for mileage to determine the buy back price. They even cooperated with the Volvo dealer, treating it like a trade to avoid the higher state sales tax.

My point is, there are dealers that actually understand the value of treating customers right. And I/we will recommend Apple Ford forever.

My 2009 V6 rode rough too. At 26,000 miles the tires needed replacing. I used info supplied by Tire Rack and this forum to replace the OEM Dunlop tires. I selected Continental Extreme Contact DWS. They improved the ride substantially. Driver satisfaction with the OEM Dunlops is one of the lowest rated tires on the Tire Rack sight for noise and comfort. The Continental's rate much better.

I had the same experience with my 2010 V8. At 8000 miles I replaced the OEM Dunlops with Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires and the ride improved dramatically.

Had I known that the Genesis was even known to have a rough ride, I wouldn't have bought this car. Doesn't seem like they should go together, considering what it is targeted against.
This was my post today in the General 2009-2014 forum.

Greetings all. I bought a used 4.6 2011 Genesis a month ago. I traded in my VW GTI, because the suspension was getting to be too harsh on my lower back issues. I was expecting a soft ride in this car.
The previous owner put aftermarket rims and I believe there are new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 235/50/18 97Y
Is it the suspension that is harsh on these cars, the wrong tires? I love everything else about the car, but it is beating me up. I don't want to put a bunch of money into this car. I'll try to post a pic with my phone later.

I figured I'd add this post I made in another thread:

I personally find this to be one of the most comfortable cars I've driven. It's definitely a huge improvement in ride quality compared to my 2007 BMW 530i. The seats are incredibly comfortable too with my boss (drives an Acura RDX and X3), my mechanic (various luxury cars) and body shop guy (usually high end cars) all saying the car is very nice to sit in.

I don't know how well the E Class rides but I can safely say that the Genesis rides better than the vast majority of the cars on the road. If it's lacking anywhere, it against significantly more expensive cars.

Check your tire pressure, as mentioned previously in the discussion. The pressure may be too high. Since this discussion has come back to life - how are people feeling about the 2015 Genesis Sedan suspension?
