  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is the third generation Hyundai Genesis Sedan going to shrink?

Agree as it is NOW.
But look at Corolla and lexus IS...

Lots of commonalities.
But they are not twins, of course.

Similar situations in the whole VW / Audi lineups.

The point is: Hyundai has to find its way towards Toyota/Lexus Nissan/Infiniti Honda/Acura VW/Audi.

Mercedes and BMW are the exceptions. And their entry cars are not that attractive.

Engineering, design, advertising, procurement, etc etc - all kinds of economies of scale are demanded.

Currently, a TV Ad for an Equus is a waste of money.

The name of the game in the future will be: economies of scale AND commonality!

Just my two cents.
If you meant that a new luxury division of Hyundai may base future luxury branded models on existing lower-priced Hyundai models, then you may be correct about that. However, just because there are commonalities does not mean it is the same car. Also, my understanding is that Hyundai is looking for a direct competitor to BMW 3 series, so I assume it will RWD, not FWD like Sonata.

A lot of people criticize the Lexus ES because it shares some things with the Toyota Avalon (ES originally shared with Camry), but I completely reject that kind of criticism. What matters is the quality of car they end up with, not what the started with.

Totally agree with your points.

Exactly. I don't know much about the Lexus ES250 because I've never been in one. But ever since the ES300, it's been a different car than the Camry. Sure, it shared a platform with the Camry. Who cares? The entire experience inside the car was different. It didn't drive like a Camry, feel like one, look like one - especially inside, it didn't sound like one, etcetera.

Having the same platform doesn't mean a WHOLE lot.

The elephant man had the same platform as the woman of your dreams. Really... Think about it...

I would bank on the next generation Genesis being similar in size to the 2nd generation but substantially lighter. Hyundai needs to discover aluminum if they want to compete with the driving dynamics offered by the best from Germany. Right now, my car is only 200lbs lighter than the behemoth S-Class. I would like to see the Genesis occupy a similar space in Hyundai's lineup to the CTS in Cadillac's: The "sporty luxury sedan" space (as contrasted to the sensory deprivation tank of the Equus). We shall see what happens ...

I'm sure "weight" is on Hyundai's mind in regards to the Genesis. I have a strong feeling we'll see a lighter third generation car...

Well, my 1st gen Genny does have an aluminium hood. That's a start!

There's a descent amount of aluminum in the 1st gen. Hood, front bumper, probably rear bumper also. suspension control arms, and I'm sure there's more.....

Yes and no - models which share FWD platforms tend to have a limit when it comes to pricing and when Toyota/Lexus tried to inject a bit more sportiness - the Camry, Avalon and ES all got dinged for rougher ride quality than what had been the norm.

Hyundai cut out aluminum bits (such as the hood) in order to save costs (otherwise, the jump in MSRP would have been higher; also saves on insurance rates), but w/ everyone else going to new ultra-lightweight platforms/frames - Hyundai will have to follow suit somewhat, even if they don't use some of the more exotic materials like carbon fiber, as even luxury buyers care about MPG as the gap widens (in addition to meeting tougher EPA mileage standards).

But this will mean a price jump, but shouldn't hurt comparatively as the rest of the segment looks to get a price hike (new E Class, 5 Series, etc.); Hyundai will probably have to increase the luxuriousness of the interior for the Genesis refresh as the Germans will all be getting significant upgrades.

Companies like Toyota and Lexus are really screwed in this regard. The customers want a soft ride but the media wants good handling - and a soft ride. I mean - WTF?! So every car needs a magnetic suspension to satisfy the media. And...

The media buys everyone their automobile (with the buyer's own money, of course). Because lazy Americans can't interrupt Dancing With The Stars to research what car would best fill their own needs. So you better do what the media says and get that stiff ride going. But then, when you do, they're going to tell everyone how bad your car sucks because it rides too stiff...

No wonder Aliens from another world will never speak up around here. This planet is doomed because humanity has no hope...

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
A proper Genesis brand would have a smaller sedan, sized to compete with the ATS/C Class/3 Series, the Genesis sedan, and I believe the Eqqus should be eliminated in favor of a LWB version of the Genesis sedan. On he CUV front a pair of RWD CUV in 5 seat and LWB 7 seat versions. Asd a "halo" car a Genesis coupe that is more of an A5 or 435i luxury coupe, which is what i believe is now planned for the second generation.

Hey now.. I resemble that remark about watching Dancing With the Stars (with the wife who also the men dancers make things later go well for us)... And I do the research too. 😎 even do some watching/writing on this forum when the mop head guy was dancing. I am no dancer, or interested in the craft. But, sure appreciate the hard work in excellence they put in. Wish those morons that are dooming humanity in all seats and employ in .gov would operate their craft in principled excellence these dancers do... Would not be in the eve of doom if they did. 👏🏻

I agree. The 3-Series sized car is coming. The 5-Series sized car is here. The 7-Series sized car is here. I don't agree that a long wheel base model of the Genesis Sedan is the right car for their full-size flagship because it won't be wide enough. I felt the same way when people were asking for the Chinese built Cadillac STS-L to be brought over here as a full-size flagship for the same reason. But this is just my opinion.

As we know, a CUV is coming... I feel the Genesis "brand" would be fine to start with the vehicles I mentioned. Lexus started with only two (LS and ES with the GS coming a year later - and then everything else to follow)...

Okay, so American Idol or whatever the new reality TV show is these days. Desperate Housewives, I guess. :p
