  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Played with one of these and went ahead and let them install it for me.

Sounds pretty good and works great (so far) for controlling the music. Also lets you forward, backward, pause, play and adjust volume up and down.

Only thing that might annoy me is that you have to turn it on every time you start the car.

I paid $99 for it and then $60 for the install. I had it installed where the ash tray was (since no one will EVER smoke in any of my vehicles).

that looks cool. Can you post a pic? Does it also control your phone or does the regular setup do that?

The car controls the phone as normal. with this thing, no need to take the phone out of my pocket. once you turn it on, it connects and plays music from the last app you played music from. Its working great so far.

Thanks for the pic, it looks like a perfect fit! There is a local Fry's that sells this unit and I'm guessing they could also install for me too.

I'm glad to see the car BT continues to control your phone calls while this only controls music. Was there a setting you had to turn on/off to set it up that way or is that the standard?

Nothing you will have to setup. You just pair your phone and go from there.

Basic install went this way.
1. Had to take the center console apart. PITA!
2. Took out the ash tray and drilled hole big enough to fit the 3 wires (pwr, ground and remote)
3. Ran a aux cable from device to center console.
4. Drilled a small hole in center console and plugged it into the aux port.
5. Dremeled a little off the device and the ash tray holder area Top and bottom.
6. Used some black epoxy to hold it in place. (will come loose if heated up enough)
7. Put everything back together.

Not really that easy but you should get the gist. It was really easy once you get the center console apart.

Note: If you want the sliding cover to close, you will have to cut more of the ashtray area out. It will be covered up if you ever take the device out and put the ash tray back in.

taking out the center console was a bit of work but only because I had never done it before. Any reputable shop should be able to do the same thing in about an hour..

That sounds like a lot of work, but the end result looks great! I bought a generic BT receiver on eBay. It works great but the downside is you cant use the controls on the device since its buried in the center console.

With this BT receiver, I am able to connect to the phone using the cars BT, and this BT receiver streams music from my phone. Its a low-tech solution, but it works!

Couple of suggestions. I own the third link and it works great. I also just purchased the AirPlay device. Should be even better. The other link is of a previous post I was in that showed various options.

I posted in a few of those posts.. None of the prior devices let me change songs, adjust the volume and pause the song without going into my center console or unlocking my phones screen and hitting next. The only thing it cant do that I still want is, show the song name and artist. Oh well cant get everything we want.. or can we???

Yea. Get that.

So if you connect the LAYEN® i-DOCK Bluetooth 4.0 Music Receiver Adapter up to the ipod connector in the center console will it detect it like its a ipod?

I have a Galaxy S5 I'd like to stream music from but I dont want to have to fidget with the phone to control it....

i tried every adapter, connector and receiver i could find for BT streaming. none would let me control the music or see whats playing.

with this device, u pair it to your phone and it controls the music. the device has a female aux cable connector. you can plug a extension into that plugs then into the aux port in the center console. then BAM!! you're controlling your music from the device.

I have been used to having the phone as the control on my 2012 using Bluetooth. The 2015, I plug directly into the USB and use the system to view and control.

I think it is time for me to take JBoogie advice and give his system a crack. Has the separate control like you desire instead of using the phone.
