  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis Ultimate or Equus Ultimate...need to decide today...

Spent a ton of time at the dealership last night; all things being equal (monetarily), what car would you recommend and why....between the 2015 Genesis Ultimate or Equus Ultimate?

2015 Genesis Ultimate will be a new car, with less than 50 miles on it; but the 2015 Equus Ultimate will be used CPO with 400 miles on it (am told that it was a corporate demo car, purchased by the dealer at an Auction in April 2015).

Thoughts please.

Thanks

Genesis hands down. Best car I have ever owned. I would shy away from the suspected Corporate Demo. Just my 2 cents...

You're telling me you can get a 2015 Equus Ultimate for the same price as the 2015 Genesis Ultimate (5.0 or 3.8) with only about 350 miles difference?

What model Genesis is it? 5.0, 3.8 AWD, 3.8 RWD?

I would be leaning toward the Genesis.

As i said, assume all things being equal...
One car is new; other is not.

Between the two cars...without price considerations...which one is better? I am told that Genesis is newer generation, while the Equus is not; even though they are both 2015s? I am not smart enough to know the intricacies of this...thus my request for guidance.

Thanks

I prefer the new Genesis. I test drove both and liked the Genesis more. The only benefit behind the Equus, IMO, is the back seat headrest monitors, since I have kids. It didn't matter enough to me to take the Equus plunge though, since my family mainly drives the bigger Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring.

Unless you need the rear seat luxury of the Equus Ultimate (which is really designed to be a chauffeured car with owner in back seat), the Genesis is a much newer design and is preferable. The Equus is due for a new design in 2016 based on the 2015 Genesis.

However, this assumes you are talking about Genesis 5.0 Ultimate, and not the 3.8 Ultimate.

Also, you should not be paying more than $50k (not including TTL) for the 2015 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate.

Assuming the Genesis with the 5.0 Tau motor.

Depends on what you prefer/what are the higher priorities.

Genesis:

- more of a driver's sedan (takes corners more sharply, less body roll)
- a more modern sheetmetal
- great crash test results (not that the Equus isn't safe, but the Genesis was engineered to pass the strictest tests)

Equus:

- more of an old-school Buick/Cadillac type of ride
- more traditional sheetmetal
- greater luxury amenities for rear passengers

So basically, if you care more about the driving experience, the Genesis, but if rear passenger comfort is more important, the Equus.

👆👆➕ on the comments above.

But a couple differences... What do you want to drive? What do you want to show up in at the customer parking lot, or friends? Do you value the Equus as the top dog in the Hyundai line? Do you like a A8 or S class and want a car like that? Do you like to smile with the DVD and reclining seats in the back? Knowing that unless a neighbor has a S class, you have the top dog on the block? That 25-27mpg on highway, and 17-20 in town is good for you? That you will have 3-4 years before the classic style looks extreme dated (people are getting tired already of the "BJ open mouth grill designs.. Even Audi is changing their signature lipstick mouth open grill)? Since the 2015 Genny Ultimate is not as fast as before, and weighs closer to the Equus, do you really think a Genny will be that much sportier for your driving tastes?

Sounds like I am having second thoughts myself. I still have my 2012 5.0 Genny, and a new 2015 Genny Ultimate.. Based on the CPO Ultimate with less than 600 miles, for same price as Genny, I would likely go for yours... Might double check if it has been in wreck, who actually titled it.. Verify their story or find out what happened. They were selling 2014 signatures around the country for $44k. Getting a 2015 Equus Ultimate for same as 5.0 Genny Ultimate sounds darn good. I have about 800 miles driving and inback seat of 2014 E-Ultimate... Was amazing...

Ask yourself the questions above..might help with the choose.

Keep us informed

The '15 Genesis 5.0 is a great car - just got back from a long trip around W.VA which is a legendary place to test out suspension, steering, etc.

Watch out for lease terms - esp. at "turn-in" time - they can really stick it to you there.

Thanks all!

The sales guy indicated that this morning, he had personally gone and done a car exchange with another Hyundai dealer 30 miles away, to get me my preferred color comb0 When i went there today about 4 PM, we filled out all the lease paperwork, credit checks, etc; car test drive, cleaning; , and spent 2 hrs there to get the lease final'ed. THEN there was a hitch with the "Loyalty" bonus of $1000! While i had purchased the last Hyundai Sonata Hybrid from same dealership 3 weeks ago from the same sales person and that car still has a temp registration, his management said that until that Sonata car has plates/perm.registration from DMV with my name on it, they cannot honor the $1000 Loyalty bonus (irrespective of the fact that they did the paperwork and filed with DMV for the registration for the Sonata at the time just 3 weeks ago, under my name). The sales guy went thru the motions of escalations, and then came back suggesting that we raise the price basis by $1000 for now, and if my plates on the 3 week old car come early next week, then they can redo the paperwork to try to get me $1000 then. I went and talked to the manager, and he said that he cannot do anything.

I walked.

Now the sales guy has sent me 4 text messages...apologizing and that they will honor the price, and no change in price despite not having the permanent registration; and will even deliver the paperwork and vehicle to my home!
I do not think they understand how disappointed/POed I was/am....and for me, the car was a want, and not a need; and today's dealership experience left a bad taste in my mouth. No harm, no foul for me....

The Genesis is based on a brand new platform and technology, while the Equus uses the somewhat dated previous platform. That is one reason you're getting a bargain price on the Equus. For my money, I'd get the Genesis, or wait until they update the Equus.

Happy it ended ok.. Meaning, once your euphoria dropped, you thought "why"? And stayed away, even when they came back and wanted to cut the deals with the loyalty. If you decide to go for it, let us know... We felt we were right there with you. Have a great weekend.

For any Equus fan, still sounds like a good deal out there.. He was going to go for the Genny anyway..

That one with 38 miles is amazing.. Staring price at $17k off list? Bet they will go better, or do a excellent trade.. Now I have buyers remorse on my 2015 Genny ultimate 5.0.. :)
