  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

When the dealer replaced the tires on my 2015 Genesis V6 Ultimate (4,000 miles and first time on a lift), I noted that the right front under body panel had broken loose.

The panel was severely deformed and bent towards the ground suggesting that the cause was not a road hazard or an impact of any kind from the bottom side. Dealer said Hyundai warranty would not cover replacement and the mechanic says he sees a "lot if this." Anyone else having under body panel breaking loose?

Heat it up with a heat gun, and push it back into shape. Then attach it back to the body with a new snap or even tie straps work.

Tie straps holding parts on a new car with 4K miles on it? I would have the dealer deal with on his dime.

Did you notice this after the dealer had replaced the tires, or before you brought it in to the dealer?

If the mechanic said they see a lot of that, that probably means he is lying and he caused the damage.

If the dealer is not going to fix it under warranty, then I rather fix it so it doesn't happen again and fix it right or modify it so it won't happen again.

I agree, but seems odd they will replace $800 worth of tires in a flash after a few complaints and a month old car with panels falling off is SOL.

It is unlikely that the panels just fell off. Either it was a road hazard, or a mechanic forgot to reattach properly.

My dealer (Burns Hyundai) left off most of the push connectors (4 on the front panel and 2 on the rear panel) after the first oil change - I only discovered when i installed my fog lights a few weeks later! I subsequently lost a few when I ran over a truck's blown tire tread while changing lanes at night and it pulled the front panel and wheel well liner panel out of alignment too (luckily easily fixed).

First off, :welcome: to the forum. You should see scraps/marks from road debris if in fact it was caused by debris. My guess your dealers mechanic did not replace the panels correctly. I would run this up the ladder to the General Manager of your dealership. If you get no satisfaction there, get HMA involved.

You have to take body panels off to change oil? Please explain, I'm confused as i like to change my own oil but won't be fooling around with panels.

Thanks

Then entire underside is covered in these soundproof/skidplate type panels, with no access for the oilpan drain plug or oil filter. My 2015 Sonata is the same way.

It is possible to use an oil extractor via the dipstick tube such as the MightyVac 7300, hooked to a small air compressor. I use this and it works very well (don't try it with an oil extractor that works with a hand pump).

For 2015 owners with the 3.8L V6 it is possible to reach the oil filter from the top of engine bay by reaching down in a space between the radiator and engine block. Someone posted about this in another thread, although since I don't have a 2015, I can't vouch for it personally.

Between 2009-2011, the 3.8L V6 Genesis has the oil filter on top of the engine right under the engine cover, so no problem there.

Thanks RN, i know what you mean now. My '07 Passat had all of that and was attached by torx screws - no biggie.

Yet another way that a dealer can screw up a Hyundai oil/filter change - esp. on the V8.

As I pointed out in other posts, it is neither a complex, nor a difficult procedure, but it is a procedure that presents plenty of ways to screw things up - esp., when you're working on someone else's car under a time constraint, and maybe don't care all that much about what you're doing.

With the panels loose do you hear a rattle from the front end going over even minor road imperfections? My front end rattles like crazy. I thought that is was something broken in the suspension but they say it is the under body cover.

Some parking spots have a concrete barrier to keep you from pulling too far up. In most taller cars your tire will hit the barrier first. In the Genesis, the front bumper hits it first. In my case the bumper went over it and partially pulled it down when I backed up.

Keep your front parking alert turned on if you have one - it actually works for these things - there's a switch on the console with a barely visible light.

I had my local garage do my oil change this time as opposed to my dealer. I inspected all the plastic retainers and sure enough 3 were missing. These do not or cannot pop out on their own. Definitely my dealer who lost/forgot to put them back in. Good news is he had retainers so we replaced the missing ones. I suggest buying a bag full of these on ebay for dirt cheap and keeping them in the trunk. After removal the end that gets inserted into the hole is rather splayed apart and takes some coaxing to get back in, most likely why they omitted a few at the dealership. Here is what you need. http://www.ebay.com/itm/371222529360?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
