  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Seel Peeling

Just stumbled upon this thread, and currently considering pulling the trigger on this car. I'll make sure to take a look at other Genesis's on the lot to see if they have this issue. If they do, I'm most likely going to pass.

It might depend on your geographic location. It might be the heat here in Florida causing this issue more so than the colder climates. Anyone up north seeing this same issue?

Just checked mine.....I have had the car for 3 weeks and it shows that same problem but not as bad as the photo shown on this post.:(

What area do you live in? I have decided to leave mine as is until Hyundai comes out with a permanent fix.

mine is all the way across the top. all of the cars on the lots I've seen have this starting to happen. the best thing to do is to urge everyone to complain to the dealer and have it documented. Call Hyundai even. But, I wouldn't let them fix it till they come out with a correct and permanent fix. I'm leaving mine till that happens and i'll complain about it everytime I bring it in for oil etc.

so far mine has not leaked any water, it just looks like crap.

I'm in southern california. Where I live doesn't get particularly hot, but where I'm getting the car from gets really hot. I'll check it out when I go to the dealership tomorrow.

But just for clarification, this is just mainly aesthetics correct? I didn't see anyone experience problems of leaking into the cabin since that seal isn't the last seal before water leaks into the interior correct?

No leaks... Just cosmetic

Had the same issue with it peeling off. Took it in and dealer tried to talk me out of doing it as it was so involved to rip car apart, said to just remove it as it doesn't matter for water infiltration. I said fix it, they ordered out parts had glass place do work on it and it lasted about 2 weeks. Waited about a 9 months and took to a different dealer. They contacted Hyundai and were told to replace the seal. Manager also said Hyundai was aware of the issue. That repair lasted from the night I picked it up until the next morning. Went back they took pics of it and came back and said Hyundai said to replace fixed panel with new one with seal already on it. They ordered it did the job and so far so good. The seal on the new one looks perfect. Something I also noticed was that now the moveable part just barely and I mean barely contacts it instead of before where it was trying to pull it loose in the closed position. They also set the fixed panel so perfect that the creaking noise stopped too. Hopefully It holds up.

Can you give us an update as to how the fix is going? My fix was wavy and the corners bent down. I can see it starting to peel off again from the center. I just got so frustrated I kinda gave up. But you reporting this fix gives me new hope. I'm just wonder, is it going to last... If so, how exactly did they fix it and can it be done with other cars. Was it a local shop who did the work or Hyuandai themself? What dealership did you take it to specifically? Have any pictures?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

XSOLARA, good to see you again! I remember you from the Azera group. I now have a 3.8 Ultimate with build date 3/23/15 and see no signs of a seal problem as yet. Sure like the steering, though, which was my big complaint with the Azera!

Same here - the fix looks like crap! Wavy and with a gap at one corner that I see water drain into when I washed it Saturday. The wind deflector frame and fabric was all wet when I opened the roof yesterday - have never seen that wet before! Fix was done on Thursday and it looks like it's starting to peel again! Also, the rear roof panel now rattles which it never did before and the front panel also rattles when open which it never did before.

I'd alert Hyundai to the problem, but don't let then fix it until they truly figure out how to do it correctly- which they clearly have not at this point!

Did they replace the whole sunroof assembly on your car?

no - they just replaced the gasket/perimeter seal on the rear panel. It's going back in next Monday to look into it deeper.

Well, add one more peeled seal to the list. Looks pretty gruesome, as if someone forgot to prime the glass before applying the seal.

I hate reading this. I'm right on the edge of making a decision to purchase. Was at my local dealer on Sunday. Of 6 Genesis vehicles on the lot, 3 had this issue.

On page 2 of this thread I stated that the above was what would be needed for a fix.

Not too big a deal to me, bothersome but it is cosmetic in an inconspicuous area and a fix will become available. At least, there better be a permanent fix coming!! 😄

i guess it's a gamble. Mine doesn't do this. I don't use my sun roof often in this Houston heat.

Are you guys who have issues using the sun roof a lot? I know this should happen with whatever amount of use you put on it, but i'm wondering if mine will start peeling.

I am wondering the same as well, how often you all are opening and closing and/or tilting the roof and if this is related to whether the sill comes loose or not. Not that it should either way. I dont use mine that much either. Had the car since Oct. 2014 and probably only open and/or tilted the roof like 5 times since I have had the car. My seal is still fully intact at the moment.

My car is less than 1 month old and it is showing some deformation on the front and back of sliding glass.....it's been open twice
