So why do I need Bluelink?

I guess I'm getting older and not as tech savvy as I used to be, but can someone give me one or two sentences on why I need Bluelink?

The dealer blew through the installation when I took delivery but never explained what exactly it is or it does. I forgot the password, so tried to reset it but the Hyundai website keeps saying my link to reset it is expired even when I go in right after I get the reset email (supposed to be good for 24 hours BTW). I can keep trying but would like to know if it is worth it before I go through a lot of hoops.

Is it just remote start and locking? If so I'll skip it, no need in CA.

numerous features but not imperative you have them.

remote start is nice as you can set temperature from your phone so the car is comfortable when you get in.

also has onstar like features so if you get in an accident it will send help

also navigation feature where you can just say a destination and it will search and upload the information into the nav system.

Only feature might be in an emergency situation caused by an accident or mechanical problem ....but if you have a cell phone you don't need Blue link

Pretty useful useful if you lose your key - you can remote unlock and start it from your phone. From what I can tell, you can then drive it without the key as long as you don't shut it off (at which point I suppose you could do it again, if need be?).

I have it incase my family has an accident and I'm not with them. it will alert me and get them help faster. especially if they are upside down in a ditch or unconscious. kinda like...I'm there no matter where I am and if I'm with them and knocked out...then big brother is helping me too.

it will also alert me if the panic button is pushed on the key.

My wife loves starting her car before she gets off work with the app and in Texas....that means something that she can control the air. it wont be a mini Hell when she gets in. we use it all the time. when we are checking out at the grocery store....about to leave for something. you name it and we start it and let the air run.

its worth every penny I spend on the subscription. but I don't have the navigation part. don't care about that. I know where everything is in town and if I travel...my wife is the bluelink nav at that point.

The Google Search function button on the rear view mirror is worth every penny for it. It blows away the cars Voice NAV system.

That is what is included in the first tier. Having your cellphone in the car but tossed who knows where if you are in a serious collision is of no use. If the car is in a serious accident with Connected Care functioning and active, Emergency services will be notified automatically which could help to save your life.

The other two level are more gee whiz features that may or may not be of use to you depending on how and where you drive.

I have them all and will try it for one year to see exactly how much I use the other two levels but will always keep the Connected Care level activated as long as I own the vehicle.

Just returned from a 6000 mile trip out west and used it once to send next days destination. Called BlueLink yesterday and cancelled everything. While out west tried it and had no connection. My son has it on a 15 Sonata and loves remote start but he lives in DC and parks outside, I live in SC and part in a garage.

Exactly my feelings. Once Android Auto comes to the Genesis, I will be using Google Maps and my phone for navigation, etc. All this seems like is a money suck every month so I can occasionally remote start my car. I'd rather walk outside 50 feet and start my car, and go back inside, and keep my money.

Mine was set up by the dealer. worked well on remote start then, has not worked since. Forget it I don't need the problems if it works or does not.

PS I love on a dark night the curb genesis emblem and sign the mirrors provide.

That kind of silly thinking just cracks me up! You also don't need a Genesis. Just get an old Chevy - no tech to worry about at all. Don't waste your money. Lol.

Of course, Android Auto coming to the 2015 Genesis is not even guaranteed to happen. Meanwhile, I've enjoyed the integrated benefits of Bluelink that are not possible on my cell phone alone for over a year now! It does cost $, but that's a cost/benefit decision that each individual needs to make based on their own needs and resources. But don't pay attention to the Bluelink "haters" - it works well, so see what it offers and decide for yourself if it's worth it. For me, it is...

The way Hyundai pushes Bluelink at you, it's almost like those windshield washer bums in the major cities. They hop out while you are stopped at a traffic light and spray your windshield. Then they ask if you'd like it cleaned off. NO, dangit, I don't want those blinding button lights on my rearview mirror!

Hmmm, no one pushed it on me - not even the dealer... but If it really bothers you that much, I think a Sharpie or a dab of black paint would easily take away this major issue for you...

Wow, you must have very sensitive eyes - I don't find them bright or distracting in any way. The instrument panel and LCD Nav screen are far brighter than the tiny buttons on the mirror. But it is what it is - you're only option if it's really such a big issue for you is to black them out in some way...

I think Bluelink is great but WAYYYY overpriced for my usage patterns. The remote app features are very good and the Google search features are like a billion times better than the native stuff. You don't need to be tech savvy to use or appreciate the features. If anyone thinks that is too much "tech", they probably don't have a phone that can't run the app.

Simply turn off the switch on the mirror and walla.. No lights
