  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My PPP wipers came on when it was raining but the headlights stayed off. If it's too light outside and raining you have to manually turn on the headlights. I'm disapointed that Hyundai miss this common nice to have safety feature, especially on the Genesis😕

It is true in many places that one is required to use headlights when it is raining hard enough to use wipers, but are there other cars that automatically turn on the headlights when raining?

Also, if one has DRL, not sure if that qualifies legally as having headlights on.

I can hear the judge saying, "DRLs are not headlights!" But is is true that the laws relating to turning on headlights when it rains are out of date and should be updated to say "headlights and taillights," which is what legislators really intended in the first place.

If you apply the windshield washer the wipers automatically come on. Should the lights automatically come on then? How would the car know the difference? Can you name one car that does this?

My MB did not automatically turn the lights on when the wipers came on. I don't see an issue here. Maybe you need a chauffer.

Many do - my 2004 Jeep Cherokee does. Not that complex to determine when the windshield wipers are in washer mode and rain sensing. Some states may have laws that require light on when wipers on.

Many states do.

However, I am a little suspicious of automating too many things. First, it is just one more thing that can go wrong,

Second, it may not be a good idea to let the car do everything, because at some point one may drive a car that doesn't have the feature, and one might forget to do it manually. Best thing would be for it to be law that if wipers are on, then the lights go on, and then all cars would have that feature.

I remember being amused the first time I saw a sign in NC that said I needed to "Burn" my lights when the wipers are running!

I've had four Lexus that were equipped with auto wipers, none of them would turn on the headlamps automatically when the wipers are on.

Sounds like some cars offer this, which I actually don't like as if you are driving in anything but a steady rain the lights would be turning on and off a lot.

There are a number of states that don't require the lights be on with the wipers, so since there is a significant variation in the law Hyundai probably figures leave the lights off unless the driver needs them.

Or you could move to S. Cal, never rains here anyway!

Thanks for the feedback, I was just checking to make sure There wasn't something wrong with my new car. , my 2014 jeep Cherokee had this option that could be enable based on driver preference.

Just drive all the time with your headlights on, even in the daytime people can see you a lot sooner with them on.

But you will need to remember to turn them off then - AUTO mode won't do it and the LED fogs also need light on to work.

He's suggesting just always leaving your headlights in the On position (day and night) - so why would you suggest he needs to remember to turn them off?

I was thinking erroneously, they would not auto turn off with car if not in AUTO mode, and drain the battery as in some cars.

In our cars, they shut off even with not in auto. Nice work Hyundai, Thank You! :D They did that for us old farts who have a terrible memory. :D

That's fairly normal these days. I once owned a 1998 Camry that did NOT have auto-on headlights, but automatically turned off headlights when engine was turned off and key removed from ignition.

The headlights turn off after the car is shut off after a couple minutes

Yes, was clarified a few posts up. Actually to be precise, if the driver’s door is opened and closed, the headlamps (and/or parking lamps) are turned off after 15 seconds.

Cool, learned something new. Thank You ksoze. Gotta love this forum.

Nissan and Honda cars have auto wipers that automatically turn on the headlights.

My 2009 Cadillac CTS-V would automatically turn on the headlights after about the 3rd or 4th swipe off the wipers when in Rain-Sense mode. When the wipers turned off - the lights turned off.
