Many Thanks But Genesis Did Not Fit

Just wanted to thank all of you for your consideration and insights these past many months. Unfortunately my 6'7" body did not quite clear the bottom of the steering wheel. I could fit, but could not move my foot quickly to the brake pedal in case of emergency. The console also made things a bit too snug. I tried Toyota, Infiniti, Honda, Mercedes, Nissan, BMW, Cadillac, Chevy sedans no luck. I did not go over a mid $60,000 threshold on these cars. If the steering wheel would have raised up another inch or two I probably could have fit. Although way out of my price league even tried the Tesla.

After all of that I thought nothing would work, until I sat in an Audi A6. I have legroom and headroom. Although I would have preferred something less expensive, it is a very nice car. Perhaps if Hyundai decides to rearrange the steering, and/or give the driver more legroom (and an inch or two less to the back seat), I will revisit this very nice car. Interesting that the A6 is bigger, did not realize that. At 6'3" myself, the Genesis is the first car I have ever had that I did not need the seat all the way back. Excellent room for me at least.

Let us know how the A6 compares, I never drove one but did drive the A4--pretty nice car.

Not a bad choice at all. I admit I've kinda had an Audi fixation for a while; they're really nice cars.

I went car shopping once - heard all about the Beemer mystique--

The things had no headroom --

So, the sales guy reclined the seat all the way back and said " There you go".


Too bad - kinda liked the little Z4's a bit.

I think the you would have easily fit in a 1st generation Genesis.

I really would have preferred the '15 Mustang (always wanted one when I was a teen). While my body fits it, I need a lot more space than the tiny trunk will hold. I have not regretted buying my Genny.

I looked at the specs of both cars and it appears the Genesis should offer you more leg and head room than the a6.....

I did have a Mustang. Bought it new in 1965, a Mustang GT (standard coupe) with automatic, trumpet exhaust, 4 barrel carb. Fit in that, but I was a kid. Unfortunately timing belt problem and I got rid of it long ago. New Mustangs, no way. Have to say so far really enjoying the A6, even with the 6 getting very good highway miles.

Thank you. Take it from me, the actual legroom numbers are of very limited use. The Audi A6 shows less legroom than the Cadillac XTS or the Genesis, but is much more comfortable for me. If you find yourself in a marginal comfort zone, you absolutely need to sit in the vehicle. Do not settle for the Lazyboy recliner position either. For safety sake make sure you have good steering wheel clearance for the brake pedal. Sad, that there were several other cars I could have fit in if not for a little more vertical adjustment on the steering wheel.

I think the you would have easily fit in a 1st generation Genesis.

I'm 6'7", and it's a good fit. Granted, I did have more room in the S6 and AMG Mercs I was shopping at the same time.

The T2L (torso to leg) ratio factors, too.

Those are some nice cars you were looking at! What was the ultimate deciding factor? As for the AMG Mercs were you looking at an E or S?

Serviceability and cost to own over the next 3 years. I was looking at a (few) E63 AMGs, E55 AMGs, but drove an S550 or three.

I had wanted an R-Spec since release, but in the same price range found the CPO'd R-spec for a great price and decided to wait on the bonkers cars for a few years.

Spot on the torso to leg ratio. I think even an inch shorter in the legs may have done it. I am not sure why it is becoming harder to find cars to fit in. There may be increased emphasis to the rear passenger seating legroom vs. the front seat driver. Hmm, the driver is seating in his seat when driving 100% of the time, but the passenger seat behind the driver, for me at least close to 0%. So Gen 1 may have fit. Aren't people getting taller? Sorry, just frustrated at limitation in options decreasing.

Tpr5.0 you are on the lucky side of the torso to leg ratio. I guess this just confirms the idea that published specs are only vague guidelines and you need to sit in the car before counting a car out. I would never have tried the Audi A6 based on their legroom specs. Happy driving!

How true; and several reviews I've seen claim that the rear seat legroom specs for the Genesis seem to be understated, based on "in seat" experience.

LeBron James drives the KIA 900, but I heard the modified it for him. It is a beautiful car but they need to upscale the logo like Hyundai did.

I have a coworker who is 6'7" and found himself to be most comfortable in a 2015 Sonata Eco. He is signing the papers now. He said he even had to move the seat forward almost a couple inches.
