  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any Idea's on how to keep the LKA working with 1 Handed Driving??

I'm not wanting to put a damper on all these suggestions about how to defeat the LKA Warnings, but has anybody on this thread ever seen the results of a Steering Wheel airbag discharging? If you are driving one-handed the most common position I have seen is with the hand at the 12 o'clock position and arm draped across the steering wheel. If the airbag was to discharge when driving like that, you'd be pulling the remains of your arm out of your rearranged face.:(
I teach high-performance driving and we used to tell students to keep their hands (BOTH hands) on the wheel at the ten-to-two/quarter-to-three position through the turns, even if it meant crossing their arms. Because of Airbags we don't do that anymore due to the potential for severe injuries if you have an impact with your arms crossed. Now we teach the 'shuffle' if turns require more than 90deg. of steering wheel movement.
The two-hands rule is far safer and also gives you maximum leverage, feedback and control of the vehicle. Not preaching, just providing an opinion.

On long trips, I often drive with one hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. The problem is that the warning goes off if I don't apply constant steering pressure. I get a noisy warning when it is completely unnecessary. I've found LKA to be very useful on interstates to prevent drifting out of my lane when my attention is diverted. It is much more relaxing driving through WV mountains with the LKA safety net and blind spot monitors.

I WOULD NOT TRUST IT! It almost put my wife in a ditch last week when going around a curve to the right with no right side stripe. Jerked VERY hard to the right when she got too close to the center stripe. It also put me in the oncoming lane a couple days ago when the center stripe went away (new pavement) and the two shoulder stripes were fresh and bright and the camera picked up the left one. At this particular time the car was favoring being close to the center stripe. Sometimes it prefers the shoulder stripe. NEVER the middle of the lane. It often drifts over the center or on to the shoulder while only flashing, no shudder or correction. THIS SYSTEM IS DANGEROUS!!! Not to mention totally unreliable. Someone will likely die due to the system but the accident may not be recognized as a system problem. We turn it to warning anytime we are on curvy roads or in town. It LOVES putting me into right exits when hugging the right side or in left turn lanes when hugging the center.
Got the letter for new tires and engine computer mods so I will ask to have the Tech Package software reloaded.

I have to disagree. I'v been using it for a couple months now and it's been amazing how well it works. The car is not meant to drive itself and your hands on the wheel can override the system. This isn't to say that it's perfect, I don't think any car, out there today, is perfect at this. Have you checked your LKA settings? Maybe you can change it to post lane departure?

It works perfectly for me as well, but I only use it on the highway when we go on long road trip. I like to control my own car when on city streets. That the fun part of driving :D

I have 12000 miles and use mine all the time. I have never had an issue that diligent driving was not able to correct for. I find it to work extremely well and it makes those 4 hour commutes much more relaxing

Agreed - great for the highway but overly intrusive around town and on back roads...that said, I do like it on wheel marked curvy roads.

I do mostly rural 2 and 4 lane roads mostly light curves with LKA on, little city driving where LKA turns on. I could like it IF the response was the same each time. BUT...Sometimes it gently nudges you, sometimes it jerks rather forcefully, sometimes it does nothing at all. Sometimes it loudly says "Curve ahead" and proceeds to try and go straight! I have had the car 14 months and about 10K miles and tried every setting. The first service I was addressing false blind spot alerts (no joy) and forgot to mention this. Just got the notice for new tires so I'll see if the software can be reloaded or whatever they decide to try.

I wonder if those of you who use it find the car centers in lanes or does it favor one side or the other?
What happens at off ramps? Left turn lanes? Mine pulls one way or the other, depending on where in the lane it is riding, and then shuts off until you center it back and both stripes (or sometimes the end of the shoulder) is detected.
