I have owned my Genesis for ~3500 miles now, and logged most of my fill-ups. I have made several highway trips, but seem to never be able to get even close to the 29mpg hwy they advertise. My average mpg is 19.7mpg, spanning 7-fillups. I also only drive on eco-mode...

my 5.0 is breaking 18 to 19 mpg on eco and sometimes sport when Im feeling like a stud with an open road.

What are you getting on your RWD 3.8?

I have over 40k miles on my car (mostly highway) and I average 28mpg easily on the highway doing between 75-80. I generally use the active cruise and eco mode.

That said, overall I am in the low 20s, high teens depending on my mix of city/highway. Strictly around time I see around 16-18mpg. All depends on how heavy my foot is...

My 3.8 RWD has 4,800 miles. By the car's mileage computer ( I know it may be optimistic) my around town mileage runs 18-20 using the regular mode and occasional sport mode. I never use the eco mode. Highway driving using regular mode runs 29-31 including one 1,300 mile trip. Most driving has been on regular top tier gas.

I have another 1,300 mile trip coming up the end of September and plan to use premium fuel, now that I have sufficient break-in miles, to see if I can determine any improvement . I will log my mileage and fuel purchases and compare with the car's computer.

If you have hilly or mountainous terrain, trip using the regular mode to not lug down your engine.

I have 15,500 miles on my car ('15 3.8L RWD Signature). I use regular unleaded, as I did not recognize a noticeable difference using Premium. I live in So Fl w/ mixed hwy and city driving. Hwy is wide open not much, if any, traffic city is terrible Miami stop and go traffic. In the end, I am averaging 20.53 mpg over the last 9 mos; low mpg is 18.53 and high is 23.29. I use an app called FillUp (from Google Play store) and register the information at every fuel up.

Most studies I've seen show mileage improvement from switching to premium from regular gas to be marginal at best. Currently, here in Florida, premium fuel costs nearly 25% more than regular. So, unless you believe that you could improve your mileage by that margin, it hardly seems worth the time, effort or expense. I'd just enjoy the fact that I'm driving a nice, luxury automobile, and only having to pay for regular.

wow for a very recent car, the mpg on the 6 cylinder really sucks. mind as well take 420 horses on the 5.0 and do 18mpg if the 6 cyl is only going to give me 21mpg.

a modern 6 cyl should be doing 24 26 easy. they put all this weight onto the car and lost mpg. id take a little road noise to get my mpg up to about 25 to 26 mpg.

I am getting 28 - 30 mpg regularly on highway at 65 - 75 mph. About 3000 miles on the car total. Regular gas.

What surprised me is getting this good of mileage even on fairly hilly terrain in Texas in the heat of summer with A/C set at 72 or 73.

I am pleased.

My experience with Hyundai V6 engines is that it takes 6-10K miles before engine loosens up. I'm very happy so far with my Genny... with under 1500 miles I'm getting an average of 26.7 mpg. I've never gotten less then 21mpg.

way too many variables to measure MPG accurately...Temp,humidity, wind speed ETC. most important is drivers lead foot

I wish the differential were only that here. I purchased gas today and the premium I bought was $2.60/gal. Regular was selling for $2.05/gal., a 55 cent difference. When gas was higher a few weeks ago the differential was 50 cents. It seems the gas companies are really stiffing the premium buyers.

My 2013 BMW 335i is averaging 26 mpg, but requires premium fuel. If I were to get the Genesis to replace it when the lease runs out next March, the cost of fuel will be almost a wash.

Let's consider a 400 mile trip:

With the Genesis, at 20 miles per gallon, I would need 20 gallons of gas. At $2.05 per gallon the trip will cost me $41.00.

With the BMW, at 26 miles per gallon, I will need 15.4 gallons of gas. At $2.60 per gallon the trip will cost me $40.00.

Considering that the Genesis is so much larger, and weighs considerably more than the bimmer, I think this is really quite good. The three luxury German brands all require premium gas, and although I'm not positive about this, I think the three luxury Japanese brands do as well.

I know I'm rambling, but my point is that although we all might like to see better mileage numbers from the Genesis, it still really competes with other premium brands as to fueling costs, if not in actual mileage.

I was on a rural highway romp this past weekend, bypassing a SC Interstate with much backup and accidents. Trying to make up some time, this was a nice wide state highway, with many passing zones, which I took advantage of frequently. I was aiming at 70-80 mph, with passing opportunities up to 110mph, depending on the length (or shortness) of the passing zone. So I was in the throttle a lot, with corresponding downshifts out of the tranny, until I completed the pass. Even so, I was hard pressed to get the mpg less than 20. Which for this heavy of a car, being worked hard, I thought was pretty damn good. Interstate cruising at 80-85 would net usually about 27-28mpg. All according to the average mpg readout on the dash, so ymmv. Literally!

I just took a road trip from NYC to MD. My car is at around 12k miles, 3.8 RWD. On highway I averaged around 28mpg doing 70-80mph. No cruise control and normal mode.

I've been reasonably happy with the MPG on my 3.8 RWD. I have only 1,500 miles and first couple tanks were 21-22, now getting about 23-24 on the last tank. All basically the same driving same traffic and same route to and from work. Mixed hwy/city but with substantial traffic at times.

For comparison, my old Lexus LS430 got 20-21 and my '13 Lexus GS 350 would get 24-25. Considering the Genesis is larger and heavier than the GS with a bigger engine yet getting the same or only 1mpg less, I can't complain.

on my 5.0, I was able to get 24 mpg on a vegas to LA drive going around 80mph traffic free. It was a fun 4 hour drive, I wanted to keep driving it when I got home.

at these gas prices, it's better to get a v8 if there is very little difference in price vs the 3.8 v6. Its only 3 mpg difference but u get a brutal 420 horses. it is a totally different beast in the v8. It's the engine the genesis always intended to have.


geting from 80mph to 100mph happens very quickly, all with more muscle to spare.

for most of us , this 2nd gen is not just any sedan, its the gotta have it sedan. the v8 really completes the package of the Genesis sedan.

Just returned from an almost 5000 mile trip, mostly interstate at 75-80, over 7k miles, and I averaged just under 32 mpg. I have a 2013 base model, and this is 2 years I've done the same. This thing is a road warrior!! A salesperson's nirvana. But my wife and I still enjoy the lingering looks on the freeways.
