  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 5.0 blown motor

This thread is making me laugh out loud at my desk. Mark is clearly trolling the crap out of some of you. It's like he gets bored because nothing interesting is happening here, and starts an argument on the merits of using the term "motor" versus "engine" and some of us get sucked right into a charade.

I've seen him do this in many threads. It looks like he's taken a serious stance on some inane, trivial topic, but he's really not as vested in it as it looks like on the surface. I know, because I have a friend who does the same stuff - argues for the sake of entertainment.

I've been sucked into arguing about stupid topics like lunch meat with my friend so many times and this conversation here has all the telltale signs of one of those scenarios.
I tend to agree and would expect the moderators to discourage and/or ban such behavior as it detracts of the value of this forum.

Meh, they allow that ZZR fogy to advertise in his signature, send harassing PMs, and ruin a decent looking car with dime-store "aero". This is pretty mild in the grand scheme of things. The people who got suckered in should be required to sit for an Internet 095 refresher course, though.

It's called being a C@#t.

Yup. I asked a simple question on the audio forum, and got a full dose of his nonsense.

Question: What time is it?
Answer: I'm not hungry right now.

Question: What is the square root of 9?
Answer: Luxembourg

The question you asked demonstrated beyond any doubt whatsoever that you don't understand the significance of what "output" means when evaluating an audio system. I am sorry you think my response was non-sense, but I would say it was your question that was non-sense, since it exhibited a total misunderstanding of what makes an audio system sound good, or even how loud it can play.

I have listened to home audio systems at Hi-Fi shows that had one preamp, one 2-channel amp, one turntable, and one pair of speakers. The total cost of the system was about $75,000 and it sounded fantastic, and could achieve extremely high volume levels. The power output of the system was 25 watts per channel (50 watts total).

I did not aggressively go after anyone. I speculated that deepcolor, based on the language he used, was a serious auto race fan, or possibly a race driver (of some sort).

If deepcolor tells me that I am mistaken, then I will retract my speculation and apologize to him.

Whatever helps you sleep at night, but paying for a V6 brings your judgement into question. That same judgement can be applied to your assessment :p
OK, don't be so serious, it was just a joke.

You're a pompous know-it-all. All I asked was if anyone knew the advertised output of the base audio system. Hyundai advertises the Lexicon systems' output, so I thought maybe somewhere they had given the base specs as well. You no more concluded from my question that I don't understand what "output" means when evaluating an audio system than you concluded from the OP's comment in this thread about a "motor" that he's a "motor sports fan." You just used these as a convenient excuse to bloviate and insult.

So you think I insulted you?

If you do understand what "advertised output" means in automobile audio systems (which unlike home audio, is unregulated by the FTC), please explain it to me, since it appears to me to be whatever the manufacturer wants it to be. I would really like to know what it means, and what good that information is. Please illuminate me.

I think it's pretty obvious that it's your approach in explaining something to him (and to the guy in this thread) that makes you look bad and garners these types of comments.

Here's how the audio question should've been answered by a polite, helpful individual:

"Hey, I believe the stated manufacturer output is X watts, but in my experience this number can be deceiving because stated specs for automobile audio equipment aren't regulated by the FTC like home equipment is. Here's a technical explanation if you're interested: <insert Mark's explanation>.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I have a lot of experience with this stuff."

The tone you took was immediately dismissive and a turnoff to a newer member who's not familiar with your "style" of communication. I think you already know this though and it's just part of your character on this forum.

Anyways, back to your regularly scheduled programming: "Don't call it a motor you redneck racing fan! It'll get your warranty claim denied."
