  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As most of you know, any 2014 Equus with a build date before June 24 has no daytime running lights. Assembly error? Wrong parts? Don't know for sure, but for whatever reason the 'early adopters' didn't get DRLs. One member here received a "fix" from his dealer after working with the Zone, but my Zone wouldn't do anything without HMA and Legal approval. I understand that if the fix isn't authorized, it becomes a liability issue if the fix causes other problems.
But with various HMA departments pointing fingers but not coming up with a solution for me, I got frustrated and sent an email to Dave Zuchowski, the new CEO. I told him it felt like I'd fallen down a Hyundai rabbit hole, and asked for his help. Btw, I sent him this 3 hours after his appointment to the role. 3 hours later I received a nice note back from him saying he'd "stick his head down the hole and see what he could do". He copied the Director of Product Quality/Service Engineering too.
Fast forward 2 weeks and I received another email from Mr. Zuchowski saying the fix has been identified and tested, and would be at my dealer within a week.
Yesterday, the fix was applied and I now have DRLs.
The point of this post is to let you know that the fix is available at your dealer now (if they don't know, have them contact the Zone), and more importantly to state how impressed I am with the new boss of Hyundai Motors America! That level of attention is rare these days in any business, and should be recognized/appreciated by anyone driving a Hyundai... especially the 'luxury' cars.
I couldn't be happier, wanted to share the story with you.

That's awesome! Thank you for giving us an update. It is annoying that we missed out on the DRL's due to whatever the oversight was. I plan to take mine in soon to have then activated. Did they say why they werent enabled or what they did to get them to work?

Nope, and the receipt only says 'install harness'.
If your dealer/zone doesn't know anything, have them call Rod in the Central Zone. Or his boss, Donna.
But they should be hip to it.

Do you have an email address or contact number for Rod or Donna?
Thanks!

the first post in this thread indicated that 2014 cars which were early build did not have drl, so i assumed that this "problem" was remedied in 2014 later cars, and that it therefore existed in all cars built before sometime in 2014. seemed like a natural conclusion imho.

With regard to DRLs on my 2014 EQUUS-- I don't have them and I am unable to get them through Hyundai. Two dealers (PA and FL) disavow any fix for this. Hyundai customer service in CA assigned a case number to my request. I was informed last week by my Hyundai 'Case Manager' that Hyundai has no fix to provide DRLs and any fix (if any exist) by a non-Hyundai service will void my warranty. I have been unable to get the e-mail address of the CEO to follow the same route outlined above (hmm-wonder how he got it?). Would like to hear details from anyone else who has had DRLs installed on their 2014 EQUUS by a Hyundai Dealer with name and location of dealer so I can pass this along to my dealer. Are you out there? Or is the party who somehow contacted the CEO the only one??? Help! Incidentally I love everything about my EQUUS otherwise -- this from a former long-time Lexus LS fan.

Try contacting this guy. Donna Pinkston has retired from Hyundai. He knows Donna. Tell him Dave Zuchowski knows about this fix.

This is an update! The original poster on another EQUUS forum site did get back to me with the name of the ILL dealer who installed the DRLs on his 2014 EQUUS. My dealer in Leesburg FL is following up several leads, including the ILL service dept. I called the ILL service and found out that they did in fact install DRLs on only one car -- haven't been asked by anyone else. Fix is a 'harness' and they promised 2 days ago to call me back with a part no. Still waiting for their call and contact back from my dealer. But good to know the 'fix' does exist.

I have a 2014 Equus which was built in September 2013. I have day time running lights.... It came that way from the dealership.

When was your build date? It can be found on the door sticker.

I have a late year 2014 build and it seems to be going - I can look into things further if needed just pm
