  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys,

So, I'm not in the USA, I'm in Korea, and I just got my Genesis.
What a cool car!

Here in Korea, the Genesis with all the options is called the "Finest Edition"... 3.8 V6, but the rear seats recline and there are 2 integrated TV's in the back (not DVD players or monitors; I mean, they are TV's that show the live broadcasts of around 10 channels).

Apparently, these options are also available in Dubai. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67Zpy9ynLjw
Around 18:40 of that video shows the TV's, and around 19:20 of the video shows the reclining rear seats.

But when I looked at the USA versions of Genesis, there are no such options. Is that correct?

Correct. Those features are not available in the North American models.

There have been major differences between the KDM Genesis options available and the USA Genesis options ever since the Genesis was introduced in the USA for 2009 model year. There is also a significant difference in price, even when equipped with the same options (USA version less expensive).

That rear seat entertainment system is amazing....not to mention heated and cooled in the back. Wonder if that will ever come to NA?

It has. It is called the Equus Ultimate (G90 starting in model year 2017).

I mean in the Genesis, not the Equus

I mean in the Genesis, not the Equus
The Equus is a stretched Genesis with a nicer interior and moderately different sheet metal/taillights. Same exact drivetrain. If they offer all those features on the Genesis, there is no reason to have an Equus (which is a possibility).

If you were to price the KDM Genesis with all those options, I am pretty sure it would be about the same price as a USA Equus. If you compare it to the 2014 USA Equus, which is being sold now at fire sale prices, the USA Equus is probably a lot cheaper.

What does a 2014 Equus have to do with this? The OP owns a 2015 G2 Genesis which is an entirely different design that the current Equus - it's NOT just "moderately different sheet metal/taillights". The current models are sort of apples and oranges...

However, I agree that the reason that these options are not on the USA Genesis is all about price point they are want to hit!

True, but I've heard you guys don't get the 5.0 engine in Korea, right?

I was not comparing the 2014 Equus to the 2015 Genesis (sorry for any confusion). I was comparing the 2014 USA Equus to a fully loaded 2014 Genesis in Korea (with the rear seat amenities), in terms of features and price.

Obviously, the 2015 Genesis platform is much better than the current Equus, but when the new Equus comes to the USA about a year from now, it will be pretty close to the 2G Genesis with all the KDM Genesis options (or close enough IMO). Obviously, the sheet metal, tail lights, etc, will be different.

Ok - got it and agree: we'll be back to more similar cars in 2017!

Is your Genesis a taxi?

Is your Genesis a taxi?

Very unlikely. It is much more common in Korea to have a driver, and the seat recline feature / TVs are for the owner to enjoy, while someone else is driving him/her around.

I recommend a visit to the COEX Intercontinental Hotel in Gangnam, Seoul on any workday morning to see dozens of chauffeured vehicles blocking every conceivable area of the hotel and exhibition center. S-classes, 7-series, A8's, Equi (Equus's?), Genesis's as far as the eye can see, all with their drivers waiting for the people they are going to be driving around ...

Fine, so maybe the OP is a chauffeur then.

Or he is the owner of a multi-million dollar company and gets to ride in the back, watching TV in his reclined seat ...

We can't wait to learn.

I love my Genesis but if I were an owner or high level executive of a multi-million dollar company I would not be driving this car.

Depends on what your definition of a multi-million dollar company is. A McDonalds can gross a couple of million dollars, but the owner will be luck to make a profit of $100,000 (unless he and/or his family is personally flipping burgers).
