  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've had the car for about a week and a half and not once have I had the AEB flash a warning signal even when I've been very close to the rear of other cars (was trying to test it)? I've always had to brake myself. How can I really know if my AEB system is working correctly?

It's only going to work if you quickly approach another vehicle and do not brake, that's the whole point.

I've tried that and I've gotten pretty darn close to the vehicle in front to where I have to break myself otherwise I think I might hit it. I read that usually you get a warning before the car breaks itself and haven't even gotten that that's why I'm wondering.

Check and verify.

What trim level did you buy? Have you checked your user settings to ensure that it is active? Mine almost always sounds when someone is turning left or right in front of me and I maintain the same speed as I pass.

I purchased a 2015 w/ Tech Package so it has that. It is on in the settings (I checked since I got the car) which is why I'm curious it hasn't given me a warning or turned on at all. I wonder if my ESC is off somehow? Because my adaptive cruise control works which I assume uses most of the same sensors as AEB?

This isn't something you want to test honestly. Like seriously... I mean it.

It works. I have 2015 Tech Package and it went off. It's not for when you're moving slow and it doesn't act until almost the last second. It works... saved my ass TWICE since I've gotten the car. Both times it wasn't my fault but the idiots in front of me (both illegal u-turns).

don't blame hyundai for not figuring out how to use the ebrake.

I don't want to test it to the point where I'll cause an accident but I've tried to test it at slow speeds a couple of times and I didn't get anything. Doesn't the car warn you before it brakes? Has that happened to you? Where it's warned you but didn't break for you?

You're right though, I don't *really* want to test it to the point where I almost hit someone.

According to page 5-49 in the Genesis Owners Manual the AEB is not designed to kick in at speeds below 5 MPH. There are also other parameters shown on the page that explain when the AEB is designed to work or not work.

Have you read your manual yet? There's a ton of useful and needed information, cautions, and warnings in it. :)

I usually get the collision warning mostly when someone decides at the last minute to make a right turn in front of me and I'm still maintaining the same speed. It measures the rate that you are closing the gap between you and the vehicle in front of you so it has to meet certain criteria every time for the system to work. If you are casually closes the gap the system might not sense danger in that case versus you closing in at a high rate of speed. It's only designed for emergencies and I feel most people forget that and think it's a driving aide of some sort.

My warning has gone off a couple times when someone pulled in front of me. I have never been in a situation where braking is needed.

Same here. Mine car hasn't applied the brakes for me, just the visual and audible collision warnings.

If I remember correctly, the times mine has activated were when cars suddenly made a turn in front of me without signaling first. There may have been one time when I was accelerating to pass and as I entered the passing lane the car in that lane suddenly slowed for no apparent reason.

I have a vase v8, MY2015.

AEB has kicked in on surface streets at about 40mph...and did apply the brakes and saved my axx. It was dramatic, and sudden...the front car stopped for a pedestrian, and AEB reacted much faster than i would have been able too.

wrt the AEB alarm, this have kicked in 3-4 times on highways....so i do slow down

It would be great to have a procedure to test AEB. Something like a flimsy barricade that would trigger it but not hurt the car if it hit it. If we could get or develop specs for such a thing we could hold events where we could all show up and test, perhaps for a few bucks.

My red HUD warning light and audible alarm come on quite often due to the way I drive. That being said, I have come very close yet never have I felt it brake for me so I will test mine just to be sure.

I will setup use a piece of 3' wide craft paper about 10' long and have 2 people hold it stretched out while I try to drive through at a low speed. Obviously this would need to be done on a dead calm day. Worst thing that could happen is it will be pulled away from their hands if the car does not brake. Will tell you how it worked out.

A lot of you guys have had the warning sign come on and I've never even had that. I don't want to try to get it to brake for me cause that is when you're close to an accident but I at least figured the warning light would come on sometimes so I would know it's working ok. I also wish there was a way to test this safely.

we have here snowfall all day.
when I drove on the road, for several times, I had the warning to check the Emergency breaking system. after few minutes of driving the alarm disappeared. after some time the alert goes up again and after some little time gets back to normal...
I think the radar was covered with ice and the system malfunctions.
