  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I took my Genesis in this morning so they could run the air bag TSB. There was a slight shake in the steering wheel at highway speeds so I had them look at that as well. The dealer said that the tires were out of balance?! Has anyone ever heard of this (on a car with roughly 880 miles)? The only time I've ever had a tire out of balance the car was almost undriveable (forget about highway speeds...I was lucky to keep control at 35 mph). They rotated and rebalanced the tires...supposedly that's fixed the issue (haven't picked it up yet). Anyway has this every happened to anyone?

I have had this happen. But not on this car. When I had the Infiniti, I purchased a new set of wheels/tires. When I had them mounted, I took the car out of the highway and it was just awful. Brought it back in, had the wheels re-balanced, an all was well. I guess it is possible this can happen on a new car.

Cool thanks for the reply. I talked to a couple of guys here at work and they said it's happened to them before too...feel better about it now :).

No problem. I have heard that although it may seem easy to balance wheels, one misplaced or wrong size weight might make a huge difference. Good luck!

A tire is balanced with weights they stick on the wheels during tire installation because the tires, wheels, stems, etc do not have perfect weight distribution. The weights can and do fall off, or in some cases the tire may not have been balanced correctly at the factory. This can happen when you buy new tires also.
