  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is my Automatic Emergency Braking not working?

I think the radar was covered with ice and the system malfunctions.

That's exactly what happens - one reason why I think truly self driving cars are still a ways off (and I'm glad)...

I usually get the collision warning when a car in front of me is slowing to turn right into a driveway, and I can see around him, and am going to swerve around him to the left. But, the computer doesn't know that and gets all excited that I'm about to rear end him. Nothing really close, just moving over a half lane until I'm clear.

we have here snowfall all day.
when I drove on the road, for several times, I had the warning to check the Emergency breaking system. after few minutes of driving the alarm disappeared. after some time the alert goes up again and after some little time gets back to normal...

My AEB and parking sensors did not work when we had snow and roads were slushy. After I parked, sure enough, AEB sensor in front was iced up and parking sensors were covered with slush. All was back to normal when I left work 12 hours later.

My red HUD warning light and audible alarm come on quite often due to the way I drive. That being said, I have come very close yet never have I felt it brake for me so I will test mine just to be sure.

I will setup use a piece of 3' wide craft paper about 10' long and have 2 people hold it stretched out while I try to drive through at a low speed. Obviously this would need to be done on a dead calm day. Worst thing that could happen is it will be pulled away from their hands if the car does not brake. Will tell you how it worked out.

As you stated before Midnightsun, we must drive alike. I have had the warning system flash at me numerous times but always hit the brake before the car did. Interested in how your test works out. Keep us posted.

As you guys said, it does work. I actually had my car flash me a warning this morning, I wasn't trying to test it or anything this time, a car got in front of me as I accelerated to switch lanes and the car gave me a warning so I'm happy to report mine DOES work!

Gets your attention when it goes off, doesn't it!!

I don't understand why anyone would need to actually test the safety features in their car to be confident that they work. I had an Elantra that was just totaled, the air bags, seat belt tensioners and retractors worked perfectly, no one was hurt. Try testing that stuff...

This is a new technology that could be tested non-destructively (if done right) and it would be informative to see how well it worked and what it's limitations are first hand.

It could also answer questions I have about what objects it will work with. We all know it works for cars ahead; but what about a motorcycle, tree, baby carriage, pedestrian, or deer? I have not been able to find details like this about the system.

You could also test braking at speed. The manual says that it will apply full braking at speeds below (I think) 50mph but only partial braking at higher speeds. Does this mean if you are going 80 and a car stops ahead you will get partial braking from 80 to 50 and then full braking, or is it partial braking all the way? They don't say. I'd like to know.

Oh, yeah, it would be fun too! :-)

That is already answered in the owners manual - it will not. See 5-49.

A snippet:

The AEB does not detect:
- Persons or animals.
- Oncoming vehicles in the opposite lane or a vehicle in an intersection.
- Stopped objects.

The AEB cannot objects, when:
- An object ahead is very narrow such as motorcycles or bicycles.

Guess I won't be testing with my Kraft paper afterall. This also means it won't prevent you from driving into your garage door when you come home pi$$ drunk. :D

That is a catch all cover your azz statement. I have had a kid on a bike cross in front me and set off the flashing red car on my HUD system. Scared the crap out of me. It will kick in or at least it did for me. I would still try your test Midnightsun. Just remember to be going faster than 5 miles per hour as it does not work under that speed.
