  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

:welcome: I suddenly lost most of my radio reception, particularly with the AM radio stations. I also found the rear window curtain operating by itself when first putting the gear in "drive."

You are saying if you leave the shade up it goes down when putting it into drive? Or that it goes up when you put it into drive? I have never seen that behavior by putting it into "drive". The shade if left up is supposed to go down when you put your car into "reverse" so you can see out of the back glass.

If the shade went down because you were backing up, it will go up by itself after you put it in Drive, and reach a certain speed.

I recently lost my HD radios and it ended up being a loose fuse. Maybe your radio issue is similar?

Hi...I'm brand-new here, and have a concern about the rear window shade. I leave it up while at work, and it goes down when I start to back up to leave, but when I put it in "drive", it goes back up. I took it to a dealer to have it looked at, but they refused to even look at it, saying that is "normal". Well, if it is normal, why doesn't it do it EVERY time I put the car into drive? Am I just so hopelessly stupid?? :D It only seems to do it when I've had it up all day. Can anyone else shed some light (pun intended :p ) on this? Many thanks!

First, I am assuming that 1st gen and 2nd gen are the same.

This is normal. When the shade is up, the shade goes down when you put the car in reverse. When you shift to drive and start moving (I believe it is set at 5MPH), the shade returns to the up position.

Thank you--but, what I wonder, is--how come it doesn't do that, say, when I back out of my garage? I never put up the shade in the garage, of course, and then when I shift into drive, the shade doesn't come up. It only comes up AFTER I've had it up; seems to not do it after the car has been turned off with the shade in the down position. Does that make sense? If anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong (or right), please do! Many thanks...

The button to control the rear shade has only TWO settings; ON/AUTOMATIC or OFF.

When the setting is OFF, the shade stays in the down position all the time.

When the button is ON/AUTOMATIC the shade goes down automatically when you select reverse and the shade goes up automatically when you are going forward.

DO NOT touch the control button otherwise. Do not try to outthink the automatic shade.

hawaii, think "up" or "down". When the shade is commanded down, it stays down. When the shade is commanded "up", it stays up unless the car is in reverse in which case it comes down so that you can see thru the window to back up. When the car is put in drive, the shade will return to the commanded position, "up".

The dealer is correct, your car is operating as designed.

Reading the all of the owner's manuals for the Genesis is necessary to enjoy all the features of the car and not get frustrated when something appears not to be working.

Great advice! This is a picture of what happened to the last person's Genesis who tried to out think the shade:
