  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is This Normal? USB Port Has No Power or Connectivity

I've had my '15 for about a month now. Overall, I like it very much but there's one thing that's been quite puzzling.

First, when I plug a thumb drive with MP3 music files into the center console USB port (between the two 12V power outlets), the audio system doesn't recognize it. I've successfully used this same thumb drive to play music in at least three other vehicles.

Today, I decided to charge my phone while driving. Plugged a USB cord into the same port, connected the other end to my Galaxy S5. Nothing. It's not charging the phone at all.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Something is not working correctly. Have it checked out.

Not to sound sarcastic, that is not my intent, but did you try another freshly formatted drive (since you didn't mention if the 3 other cars were AFTER this happened)and also did you try another known-to-be-good cable? the booklet talks a lot of noise about removing drives cause it will damage them, I have been leaving my drive connected to see how long it takes for (I'm guessing poor voltage mgmt) to kill it, all good so far. As far as charging, the cable thing is just covering all bases before you take the time to bring it in, they might ask you the same questions (or not, I spose it depends on the service agent).

drives formatted in ntfs or any other filesystem besides FAT32 will not be recognized.

Double check with a 2nd power cable. If the problem persists - check the fuses. If it still persists - get it to the dealer as it is a warranty item.

After seeing no power out of the Genesis USB slot to my phone, I took the same cable/phone and plugged it into one of the USB ports on my desktop. It charges and syncs just fine.

Where would the fuse be for that USB port? I'm going to be a little surprised if it has its own separate fuse just for that circuit. Nothing else seems to be affected.

Pink - one other thing to try. Reset your radio unit. The reset is located above the CD slot on the right side. It is near the setup button on the AVN systems (Base, Signature, and Tech packages) It is near the DISP button on the DIS systems. (Ultimate package). Press a paper clip or similar object into the hole, and hold for a few seconds. This could possibly solve the issue.

I had this symptom the first day I had my car, and the reset solved the issue. (Unfortunately, that radio continued to act up for other issues unrelated to the USB connection, and I had it replaced, but that's another story.)

j has a good point there, but finding fuse location now...

Looking through the manual, there does not seem to be any dedicated fuse for the USB connector. More likely it is protected by another fuse, MULTI-MEDIA, for example.

If the USB is the only thing that is not working, I think the fuse is not the likely cause. I'd try the reset, and head to the dealer if that did not solve the problem

Thanks folks.

I got back last night from a week-long motorcycling trip to the Smokey Mtns, so I'm just now catching up with this. I will give the audio deck reset a shot and report the results.

Update - Did the audio system reset. USB port is still dead. Guess I'll call the dealer Monday for my first (and hopefully only) problem with this car.
