  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hail Storm

Sad news. Best wishes. We watched that storm just miss us to the west as it sailed northeast toward NoVa.

The Occoquan/Woodbridge area seems to have been one of the principal targets for hail. As it has in the past a few times.

Hyundai is doing it's best to promote trademark confusion, but should the repairs not be satisfactory, it looks like there is a window of opportunity later in the year when the G80 with V8 will be available - at least for awhile.

I've been down this road before - and hail repairs are rather iffy, to say the least. Estimater will be here tomorrow a.m.

The sunroof will be replaced as an entire unit. That assembly is $3000. Labor is $750 or better.

I like what you're saying - but it's at the discretion of the ins. co., which right now, is leaning towards only glass replacement.

I will know by the end of the week --

What about dents in sheet metal?

Got lots of them - both cars - part of the package when you get a hail storm.

Popcorn sized hail is not bad - the golf ball sized stuff is bad news.

I'm gonna shell out some bucks for some kind of carport - even though it's gonna look totally out of place on a spacious corner lot - plus you gotta get zoning approval and a building permit in my county.

Back to sunroofs: When the glass shatters (what little there is, about .15 inches thick), it breaks into thousands of grain sized pieces. And it would be a piece of cake to replace - just shop-vac the pieces, and pop in a new glass - which is why the ins. co. likes that idea. You or I could probably do it.

Problem is: A lot of those little pieces of glass fall directly into the sunroof mechanism itself which, by any rational definition, is a Rube Goldberg contraption. Hence, future problems are virtually guaranteed, if the whole thing isn't pulled and trashed.

I meant insurance. Are they going to fix it under your insurance coverage?

cmon ppl, ttiwwop

I am horrified by the concept due to being in the TX hill country, but I also have a sick need to see the damage.

Most definitely - under the comprehensive section of the auto policy.

Estimates look quite generous, in fact.
