  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Fact: Just raced a Porsche Cayman GTS to 100 mph. This was on a closed highway section. Pulled him from a stop by my drivers door forward(so by a 1/3 car length?). I know the guy and he auto crosses so he can drive. First time in sport mode and he pulled me by 1/2 car. Then put car in sport mode and disabled traction and stability control. By allowing some spin I just pulled away from him. According to his chrono it was 4.9!seconds. We did it twice. Nothing like a 4 door luxury car beating a designed 70k+ sports car. I was all the time in relative quite while all I could really hear is his exhaust screaming to no avail.

The car is touted as doing 0-60 in five seconds. And, as you say, it does so very handily. And very quietly, at that.
Not at all bad for a 4600 lb sedan.

The fastest I have heard on a 5.0 was 4.75 0-60.

Nice! I know the Porsche guy was hurting after that. I haven't timed my launch yet but expecting it to be within the 5 second range. Maybe shorter...4.75 to 60, how did that happen? Stock?

I heard it on a car review on youtube. Yes it was stock.

As long as there wasn't not any turns. Outside of a straight line, Porsche guy grinning and game over.

Porsche Cayman is a driver's car, and the Genesis is not going to fair well against it in turns, that's a fact. Heck, there's only a handful of cars that can take it on a winding race track. But in the real world, when someone spends $70K on a name brand sports car, only to have it beaten by a four door family car on the straight away...that doesn't look too good. If I had that Porsche, I would be questioning my purchase after lol.

I'm actually surprised that the OP beat a Cayman GTS. I was expecting the base model.

I don't know about that, 200 miles on a banked oval I like the Genesis chances. Laguna Seca, the Cayman all the way.

Horses for courses.

On planet Earth Porsche buyers are not buying as a traffic light racer. There are $30K Dodge's that will smoke a Porsche off the line, but that does not make it the envy of every german sports car driver. I highly doubt any Porsche owner would question their purchase when some kid in a 5.0 Mustang or a V8 sedan beats them off the line.

owning both a GT500 and a Porsche I can attest to Ksoze's remark. Porsche is infinitely more refined. Its a pure driving experience not found in the Genesis or a faster straightline dodge or mustang. The cars are purpose built for twisties and tracks.

Porsche also makes versions of the 911 that would utterly destroy the aforementioned cars in a straight line AND around a track.

I do love the power of my Genesis and it is sneakily fast. I have owned my Genesis for nearly a year and I still love driving it.

Amen:

In no. VA, for whatever reasons, we have a lot spastic drivers who are doing crazy things, and the V8 is good for getting away from bad situations - and, of course, the car is fun to drive.

so are there any 5.0 left? I have been looking around the Houston area but can not find any in dealer lots

The G80 may or may not have that engine when it comes out later in the year. Lots of internet chatter both ways.

Keep watch.

but no 2015 left in my area.

The G80 is tagged as a 2017 model.

If you just gotta have a 2015 - try cars.com

Texan Hyundai has 2 genny 5.0's
Humble Hyundai has 1 genny 5.0

Both are advertised as 2015 models

they sure are not bringing the prices down.

It's a well liked, well reviewed car, and there are rumors that the plain vanilla 5.0 V8 may be history. Maybe that's their logic. Mine has had zero probs. in 15 mos.
