  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm very disappointed...

:D

Yea, don't need no tires sticking out of the fenders. so 295 is about the max you say. I'll have to look into it once I burn off, I mean these tires are worn out. :D

I meant on 10.5 width rims, not OEM's which are 9'' and 275 are perfect and I wouldn't go any wider.

Yep, understood that I'd need new rims. I've heard a 285 might fit the stock rims, but it would depend on the tire. But that's not much of a difference, 295 would be better.

Nope, you don't get it.

Unlike you, I do not let a small phone run my world. I'm not enamored by it and it's functions. Rather than sit behind a keyboard at a computer surfing the web, or doing the same on a phone, looking at adventures, I go out and do them. Places I go are usually not on a app on a phone, and some areas don't even have cell phone service.

Unlike you, I grew up in a time when a phone had a cord and was in your house, or in a box at the corner 7-11 and cost 10 cents to make a call. We learned how to survive on our own without technology. We knew what a map and compass was and how to read it to get where we wanted to go.

Unlike you, I learned how to build things with my hands and some basic tools, while you will go to the corner store and just buy what's there, or best case, down load a program from your phone and plug it into your CNC machine and hit the button, and be satisfied with whatever comes out. Me on the other hand enjoy looking at the drawings, maybe print a few out for reference, then modify it to meet my needs and build it with my own hands.

I work with high end technology every day, from weapons grade laser systems, high power radar systems, remote controlled systems, etc, so yes I get it. But I also know how to sit in a car and enjoy the ride without having to have a bunch of gadgets running. I have 4 vehicles in my stable, 3 of which are newer and computer controlled with a bunch of gadgets, the last, a '73 K5 Blazer, is the one I enjoy driving most of the time. Simple and raw. Only "computer" in the car is the newer stereo I installed.

I actually feel sorry for your generation who doesn't seem to know how to function without technology. There's a whole big old world to discover out there that can't be done sitting on a computer, or looking at an app on a phone.

Now to the point of this thread, which was stated earlier, I'm disappointed that there are several threads now of people complaining about how they bought a car that doesn't have the technology in it that they wanted, even though said technology was never advertised to be available in said vehicle. Seems they bought the wrong vehicle.

I'm also disappointed that my vehicle is such a blast to drive, even without all of the technology that others are complaining about not having. :)

Holy crap do you sound old and crusty, lol no disrespect intended as that's part of your handle. I can just picture you chasing kids off your lawn, damn kids with their smartphones!! Seriously, do you use the radio controls in your car? I mean they had radio controls in cars what back in the 40's, or earlier right? Do you consider that a distraction? Do you ever use the Hyundai phone system? Never had an emergency call, or an important business call you had to take in your vehicle? Do you use the HVAC system in your vehicle? Roll down the windows? Pull the visor down when the sun is in your eyes?

I feel kind of bad for the guy you completely lambasted with your tremendously high soapbox. "Unlike you, I do not let a small phone run my world". Who says that? It sounds like it should come out of a Nicolas Cage movie or something. Seriously, your diatribe was priceless. Please, someone make a movie and cast Nicolas Cage immediately, well you'd have to put some makeup on him and make him 85, but it would sell like hotcakes with some of these lines. Isn't that dime phone technology? Maps and a compass are technology as well. Man I can just picture some old dude from 300 years ago lambasting you because you let a dime phone run your world. How is going down to the store and putting a dime in their phones working out for you communication needs? Some of us need to run businesses, communicate with friends and family, enjoy music, navigate to places, etc. The smartphone has become an incredibly useful tool in the modern world, but hey keep rubbing those 2 stones together and hope they get the job done.

I can understand people voicing their opinions. I find it odd that some are miffed about this, isn't this a forum? Do you mean to tell me you never ever, not even once in your life complained about something in a forum? I think it's good feedback for Hyundai. Certainly these guys should be writing letters (god forbid they compose an email electronically, right?) to corporate officers and complaining to their dealerships. But I would bet that Hyundai has some kind of eye on forums such as these and they take these things into account to some degree.

Anyhoo let me get back to playing with Android Auto on my car.

Not only a youngster, but the bull is a little heavy - "weapons grade laser systems", "high power radar", etc.

Anywhere there's a server available on the internet - you see this sort of silliness.

We are all geniuses, didn't you know? I invented a railgun for the Navy, hey I even have a YouTube video to prove it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PItPL7EZEc

Ahh internet forums...

Great, then I'll get to met you in a few years when I get to test it. ;)

No disrespect taken. I am old and Crusty, 36 years of sailing around the world while serving in the Navy can do that. 21 years of that was active duty. ;) But I got to see parts of the world most people never see. People without technology that live just fine. ;)

I think you went a little too deep into it. I'm not bashing technology. Yes, I use it every day, some of it old, some new. But for him and others to complain continuously about a technology that was never offered on a vehicle they bought, gets a bit old. Maybe they should have bought a different car. It's the "I'm ENTITLED to everything" generation.

He reminds me of a coworker here. Young engineer, good guy. But he thinks that all he has to do is watch a few youtube videos or search the web and he's experienced the world. I tried to get him to go out to sea with us to experience what we do and that he is a part of. But since we don't have internet access or cell phone access on the ship for him, he didn't want to go. He said he could experience it on the web.

Me, call me old fashion if you want, but even though I'm not from Missouri, I'm still a "Show Me" type of person. I'd rather be out in the world experiencing things, rather than tied to a smart phone. When I get on my motorcycle, the phone goes in the glove box. I don't need to be taking calls when I ride. If it's important, they will leave a message that I can get at my next stop. When I leave work, my work phone stays at work. If they really need me, the right people know how to contact me via my personal cell phone. If I get a work related call while in the car, I have hands free and if it's that important, I pull over to talk. When I go to bed at night, I turn off my cell phone. I see too many people "addicted" to their cell phone and can't seem to put it down, even for a simple conversation with the people around them. Sad world. I sat at a restaurant one evening and watched a family of three, all on their phones and not saying a single word to each other, thru the whole meal. SAD indeed.

Most of us are not bashing those that are upset. I think it's more aimed at the people spouting crap like "I WILL NEVER BUY A HYUNDAI EVER AGAIN!!!!111eleventy!!11!!"

That's a bit crazy to me. You'll never buy another car from a certain make ever again because their bonus for your 2 year old car wasn't given to you? This is why companies don't do nice things. The entitled masses get angry. "WHERE IS MY BONUS?! RAWR!"

Also, forums are both ways. If you make a silly comment that makes you sound like a petulant child, then you will be bashed for it. That's how it goes in the forums.

I understand where you are coming from, I'm a bit of two sided in my technology use. One the one hand I'm pretty addicted to my smartphone and tablet, but I also take breaks and leave them completely alone. Taking the Motorcycle out on the country, or riding my mountain bike, going to the gym, etc.

BTW I grew up a bit later than you. The big technological achievement when I was a kid was the invention of the extra long curly cord for phones and cable television. No cell phones, smartphones, computers, etc and you're right we survived just fine.

Lol, yeah I do agree with you. I do think the polite complainers have a point, Hyundai kind of waffled on whether they would give us Android Auto, although not officially. It's a high end vehicle, and for those who chose the ultimate package they paid the highest price for it, upgrades like that are probably much more lucrative to Hyundai, they should take care of those customers. But they didn't officially promise anyone anything, so while no one is entitled to it, I don't know if it was the best move to entice loyal customers.

As for getting bashed for a silly comment, IMO the original post is silly and really is just trolling. Why antagonize all the good forum members who have the Ultimate package and are bummed out?

WHAT! You had cable?

I don't think I actually got cable until the '90's. But then again, I spent most of my young adult life on a Navy ship out at sea, so I guess that explains it.

Our big technology growing up was Pong at the local 7-11 game room. Then we went big time and got an Atari at home.

Maybe it was better I/We grew up without the technology, we spent more time outside exploring the world, learning how to do stuff on our own. ;)

You are so off base about me it's that it's laughable. First of all I'm 53 so not a young millenial. I am absolutely not tied to my smartphone and only use it when absolutely necessary - I am not on Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter etc., and I hate to see people addicted to their phones. I pretty much use my phone for calls, texts, e-mail, calendar, music storage, Waze and some internet surfing. However, to succeed in today's world you need to use this technology or you will just get left behind! Your sweeping generalizations about a person you don't know reflect on how clueless and judgmental you are!

With respect to the whole AA/Carplay issue, Hyundai did indicate it was being worked on through many "unofficial" channels and was likely coming as an upgrade. If you look at my sig you will realize that I had close contact with HMA over the past year and was told by contacts there to expect this as a download in the near future. I didn't base my buying decision on having these features but it is very disappointing to have bought the top trim model and now get skunked on a nice tech upgrade that lower trim levels get. Will I dump the car because of that now? Of course not (I never said I would - though I might for other reasons, though).

And as to actually living life, while you were busy typing away on your lengthy diatribe on a computer or phone or tablet (hmmm... isn't that tech), I was diving with sharks in the Turks and Caicos Islands (3rd dive trip this year and 1 more planned for July), which just goes to show how asinine it is to make assumptions about people you don't know... Speaking of sad....

HMM, seems you did the same about me. ;)

This is about as "Social Media" as I get, none of that other stuff here either, nor a tablet, etc.

And as you said, no "Official" announcement that any of that stuff was going to be in the car. You "heard" a rumor, from what you thought was a reliable source. So no reason to be upset that it's not available.

Have fun diving, I'll be down south participating in the Baja 500 this weekend, experiencing another world. Dove off a spot that used to be called shark Island off the coast of Thailand many years ago. ;)

Not quite - you made sweeping (and off base) assumptions about who I was - I just commented on how that made you look: I made no accusations as to who you are, what motivates you or how you live your life... Big difference!

I did not "hear" a "rumor" - I was told (by HMA) that it was being actively worked on and was coming in 2016. I am also not "upset" - I said I was disappointed! Quite honestly, it's mind boggling to me why it is so hard for some of you folks to understand why Ultimate owners would be disappointed that their premium system is not getting a useful tech update that the lower spec'd model are getting. Why do you care - just ignore these threads and let Ultimate owners commiserate if they choose to...

I will - and btw - we use dive computers these days and can log our dives... on our phones... and can analyze our gas mixes and log them... on our phones - technology marches on!

Also, my experience is that most dive sites with "shark" in the name mean you won't see any ;). On this last trip, the only site where we did not see any sharks was a site called Shark Hotel

Yep, that's what the Dive master told us, he had his boat there for a month and hadn't seen a single shark. Water was about 75 feet deep just off the island and bottom was covered in Staghorn coral.
My last dive/snorkel was in the inlet to the piers in Pago Pago, back in the mid 90's. Huge coral reef and tons of small fish. Water was only about 4 feet deep above the reef so I could stay there all day. Deepest part was about 15' deep. It was just on the edge of the deep shipping channel. Kind of strange to see such a beautiful reef that close to the shipping/traffic lane Haven't been since. Got involved with other hobbies, dirt bikes, street bikes, Baja off road racing, cars.

Shellback:

Do you do your own oil and oil filter changes on that 5.0 L. V8? Or other maintenance?

If so, any tips??

yes I do all of my own maintenance/work on all of my vehicles.

Not sure of your point/question. There's nothing fancy with this engine as far as oil changes go. There is a thread, probably in the 1st gen section or DIY that covers oil and filter changes and some issues people have seen with the filters. I haven't done a oil change on the '15 yet, but did them on the '12. I don't believe there was any major redesign in the engine that would make a oil change any different. They did move the dip stick to the left side in '15 from the right side in '12.
A good oil and filter is all you need. There are plenty of good oils on the market, pick one and stick with it.

Enjoy your dive trip, I'm out.

Again - I said "spoken like" a true Luddite. I have no idea if you actually are or not, nor did I say you were. However, if you look at the definition of the word:

"Luddite - someone who is opposed or resistant to new technologies or technological change."

That pretty much captures the tone of what you originally posted - which was:

"I think you guys just need to get rid of your phone all together. Phones are for talking, cars are for driving. I lasted over 35 years of driving with out AA or ACP, so I don't need it now."

I just leased a 2016 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 HTRAC w/ Tech package on Monday, and eagerly downloaded and installed the Android Auto / Apple CarPlay update. To be honest, my reaction is "meh". For me personally, the only upgrade over the stock infotainment system is Google Maps! It is mostly redundant features that the stock Hyundai head unit w/ Bluelink already provides using bluetooth connection. Plus, the messaging app options don't include the stock Samsung or Google apps, nor textra, so reading texts and composing texts isn't possible.

l'm sure Ultimate owners feel slighted, but IMHO, in the case of Android Auto at this point in 2016, it is certainly not worth getting to worked up about. I would contact Hyundai and ask for a free upgrade to Mapnsoft version 10.

Yeah the benefit isn't too great right now but you know Google/Android is going to be updating and improving upon the product. As are the apps and developers that choose to have their apps available on AA. As AA sits today, I agree it's not too much to write home about. In a year or two AA will likely be quite a bit different and better.

Meanwhile the stock infotainment stuff that's in our cars right now will always stay the same, save for some minor enhancements like the "3D Map" mode that came with the latest update.

You may be in for a little surprise on the '15 V8 - Two large panels to remove - lots of fasteners, and all of it done flat on your back, unless you have a commercial lift.

I use a compressor/fluid pump to remove the old oil - the Mercedes way. Much easier on that engine.
