  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Guys,
Thanks for all your help so far. I want to weigh in your opinions on which color (both outside/inside) is the best or fastest :)

I have not seen the empire state gray so far. I prefer black interior irrespective of the exterior color because it is easier to keep it clean. I love ivory but with the kids, it is going to be difficult to keep it clean.

Regarding exterior colors, I prefer black but several people complained about the difficulty in keeping it clean every day. I already drive a white car so I am not interested in white. I don't like silver at all.

What are your recommendations?

I recommend you get the interior and exterior colour you like best. I suggest that what I like best or what anyone else likes best won't help you determine what you like best. See as many options as you can in person. You will know what makes you smile the most. Obviously everyone here thinks the colour they purchased is the best, and knows for a scientific fact that it is the fastest.

Opinions on colors from others are not going to help you much, but I'll offer you one anyhow.

It seems that too many manufacturers are into simplicity when it comes to interior colors and don't offer much choice. Even though you've stated a preference for black (which seems to be most common) for cleanliness sake, if you live in an area where it's always sunny, the black interior tends to absorb heat more than a lighter color and will heat the inside more than any other color. Lighter shades tend to reflect a greater portion of the sun's rays. That said, a light gray, beige, or ivory is preferable (to me) and thank goodness Genesis offers more than just black, charcoal and anthracite interiors. Obviously, only certain color interiors look best with certain other exterior colors and are therefore only offered as an option depending on exterior color. What I found troubling is that many of the exterior color choices shown in the online pages seem to be limited in availability. When I purchased my "Pamplona Red" sedan, it was the only one I could find within a reasonable distance (<75 miles) in PA, NJ, or DE. No dealers had the "Manhattan Brown" listed in inventory. All seemed to be black, white or fifty shades of gray (including silver). It's nice that there's a selection to choose from, but useless if you can't get the color you want -- and have to settle for what's in stock at the dealership.

I agree, it seems it's cheaper for manufacturers to create fewer interior colors. Maybe leather dye is more expensive? I don't know. Or maybe over the years they have found most people tend towards a couple of colors.

Black is very popular but can get hot, although if you have enough tinting it may not be as big a deal. The last three cars I've owned were all black, and I didn't care for it. I prefer lighter colors, just to brighten up the inside. My current Genny is the light gray. I really wanted the beige, but the only option locally was with white exterior, which I don't care for.

YMMV in the case of colors.

White :D but I guess Empire State Grey if you can't stomach the white.

I've had white cars for a few years now, they stand out IMO especially on something with as much presence as the Genesis.

I spot a trend ;) white, no chrome (ever) and folding mirrors. Gotta love it!

And when you take care of white, it can be one of the deepest/'wettest' looking colors IMO

I have Montecito Blue/Beige, which was my first choice. I also like Empire State Gray/Black.

Lately I've seen a few Parisian Gray which is a very rich looking color. It's featured on most of the G80 shots that you see online. It's a nice medium Gray that is lighter than Empire State Gray, but more distinctive than Santiago Silver IMHO.

Maybe faster but it's slowed down by those black rims :=)

Montecito Blue with Beige interior is the best and fastest colors :D, but also the hardest to find which makes those of us with the 5.0 Ultimate's one happy camper :D

Not sure about that. They say - "stickers gives power, wheels more weight", that would make a car slower right? but.... my 20's aftermarket Velgens with tires are lighter ~4lb each than oem wheels with tires. My car is even faster now  :D

If someone cannot pick out their own colors, they should ask their mommy for help.

I own Pamplona Red and it IS the slowest color. And I like it that way.

I don't know about a Genesis sedan, but I heard that most police officers think a red sports car is speeding even when it is standing still.

My only criticism of the dark gray interior is that the wood tends to blend into the background. In lighter interiors the wood contrasts more and is showcased as it should be. I almost wish the wood were a lighter shade to provide for similar contrast. That said, to each us there own and empire gray / dark gray is a stellar combo for me.

My previous car was black/black. Bad choice. Clean for all of 5 minutes after washing. I've had white, silver, dark blue and bright red too. My Genny is Empire State Gray with black interior. Elegant, fast, and shows no dirt. Very happy.

Black/Cashmere is the fastest color combination in the 1G Genesis 5.0 non-Rspec. But, most importantly, get exactly the colors (interior and exterior) you want, if possible.

I recommend looking at the cars in as many different lighting scenarios as possible (bright sunlight, clouds, sunrise/sunset). Some colors, like Empire State Gray, change significantly based on the light.

I believe the Caspian Black on the Genesis is a metallic black, which hides dust a little better than a non-metallic black.

Caspian black is metallic indeed but you will see the sparkling only under the sunlight.
