  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I started a new thread since I couldn't find one related to MP3 Tag formats. I have a 160gb Passport drive setup with close to 23,000 songs. They are stored on the Drive by Artist(folder), Album(Sub Folder) with individual songs.

This is working, yes it goes stupid now and then and has to be restarted. It normally starts back up where it left off when you turned the car off. I wish I had this in every car I own.

Problem: MP3's have been downloaded and ripped from my collection. The format of each songs file name is
Artist-Album-Song Title i.e. "Don McLean - American Pie - American Pie.mp3"

The display is not large enough to display anything more then:
'Don McLean - American P' for every track of the album.

What utility can be used to go through my Drive and change each and every file name to Song Title: i.e. "American Pie.mp3" which would then display as "American Pie" on the Display of the car.

Have 4,850 miles on 4.6, Love this car. Biggest annoyance, people trying to hang with you at 90 mph trying to figure out what it is. Note: Rear Badge has been upgraded.

Update: I found and tested this program and I think Problem Solved. Need to wait until Lunch to go out and try it.

Free Utility will in one pass (23,000 songs) take current file name and convert to whatever format you want. I choose to convert file name to "track#-Title". Will give an update this afternoon.

Thanks JJJMN, this program worked like a charm...even though i had the most cryptic file names...."0429%20-%20Genesis%20-%20No%20Son%20Of%0Mine.mp3" !

JJJNM,

I totally hear you...I too had a 250GIG passport and had to drop it...I was fedup of the resetting back to the beginning. What I did is buy alot of 4GIG USB stick @$8.00 and am using those now. I have not had a single reset yet.

Everytime it resets I had to rescroll to let's say Artist "S"...man the scrolling is brutally slow! I couldn't take it anymore.

Anyways regarding the taging I am now tagging track number and song name...
Example:
01-Angel Street (Without spaces so I can see more characters)

Regards,

Update: Display works much better. with Track and Title. Since the system is showing a number on it's own the next test will be changing the tag to %title% and see if the system is smart enough to keep the tracks in order, or will it go to Alpha? Don't know until I try. I have removed much of the junk I had on the drive, down to 2,100 songs. The next project is go through and add a " 1 " before the Artist name for my favorites. That will sort them to the top. Might even add a "9 " to the wife's music, HA, HA.
