  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you know that there are now two brands of Genesis cars?

I'd even pay the difference in price (it's $700 based on the same spec car in the online configurators) between my Hyundai Genesis and the new Genesis G80 to get access to the stuff offered to new Genesis customers. Driving the exact same car with a different badge shouldn't make existing owners 2nd class citizens.
It remains to be seen what the selling price is after incentives. Most likely you got a fantastic deal on a 2015 or 2016, and I would not expect the same discounts from MSRP on the G80.

Agreed - that would signal the new brand is not off to a good start and still being viewed as a Hyundai.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
But they could have easily used the new front bumper with current lighting (as shown exists in that video) - that could have even been cheaper from an ecnomy of scale perspective (reduce # of parts/Mfg configurations).

It's all water under the bridge at this point...the point is that, with the way they appear to be managing the G80 launch as just a rebadged 2016 Genesis, risks alienating the current Hyundai Genesis owners who would likely be future Genesis Brand loyalists. They have created an unprecedented, odd situation for sure!
My guess is that the LED headlights are not bright enough for the US market.

There are two reasons for headlights:

  • So others can see you, in which case it doesn't matter how bright they are.
  • So you can see the road ahead when there is no road lighting. This takes a very bright light, which LED's are not so good at right now without massive amounts of power. I think this is more important in the US market (although not for all drivers).

Lovemysweetness and AustinTX, I agree with the both of you. I previously owned a 2012 Genesis then I migrated to Lexus for a 2014 ES 350 and back for a 2015 Genesis, because of the Genesis luxury brand. I just purchased my vehicle in Feb of this year. If I would have known that the 2015 Genesis would not be included in the Genesis brand, I would have waited until for the G80. And the hyundai haters will attack me as well.

I would agree with this if you paid full retail...did you pay the full retail on the car? I just bought one and was really debating whether or not I should wait, but I decided that more than likely the first few batches will not get discounted much if at all...plus there are awesome deals out there for mso demos that barely got used.

If there was a 2017 genesis ultimate for $54k no discount or a 2016 hyundai genesis ultimate for $44k I can guarantee you that I would be buying the 2016...most likely this will be the case for the remaining 2016s. Its not like you are even getting that much of a better service by owning the g80...its still going to be a hyundai dealerships.

And we dont know yet as far as service goes for the g80 and if we are going to get same deal yet...many things change last minute so just lets just wait and see exactly what happens before everyone starts abusing hyundai for their decisions.

Also remember that the main goal of any company is to make money and stay in business...they have to sell cars at the same time keep customers happy without losing money so there will be some give and take on both ends. I am curious to see what happens...but I do not regret buying my car except for the dealer complications...the car is fantastic.

I am guessing that one could eventually get a G80 for a couple thousand off MSRP, but nowhere near the discounts people got on the 2015-206's.

The price of service for the first three years is basically some oil changes, one engine air filter change (depending on mileage), and cabin filter changes. It just not worth that much money.

Not sure how much the 3 years of other services are worth, but someone can do the math.

to me doesnt cost anything because i actually do my own oil change with own oil...even my last 3 cars all came with 3-4 years worth of maintenance, but I just like the piece of mind that its done right...plus i do it here at work so i dont have to leave and drop it off anywhere and waste more time.

I was not talking about LED headlights - I had moved past that. I was saying that they could have still have done the KDM Front end with the current HID lighting setup.

So, I was NOT talking about this (New front with adaptive dual LED projectors - looks great, btw) :

I was talking about this (New Front with HID projector like current NA model):

From a manufacturing perspective, why make/use 2 different front bumper cover designs? Strange and inefficient decision for manufacturing...

Why don't you ask HMA? I am sure there is some reason, possibly related to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests regarding bumpers being able to withstand 3 mph collisions without damage. If insurance rates are too high, people will not buy the car.

Might also be related to NHTSA's five star safety rating (which HMA is very concerned about since they now include all the safety stuff in the base trim model).

But obviously, I am just guessing. Best to ask someone who knows. Hard to believe it was done for no reason whatsoever.

HMA would not respond to an inquiry like that - I'm just making observations for discussion here on oddities of how Hyundai is handling the Genesis Motors/G80 launch in the USA.

BTW - no way that has anything to do with the NHTSA 5 star rating - it's just the bumper cover which has nothing to do with structural integrity. I'd venture to say the same is true for the IIHS 3 mph bumper damage test - that the new cover looks no more fragile than the current one (and if you've ever taken one off, you'd see it's just flexible plastic - no structure at all)

I would have married a blonde if I had known my brunette wife would have gray hair someday.

Not seeing that on the U.S. version

Nope - Genesis Motors USA took the lazy route and merely rebadged the 2016 Hyundai Genesis and charged more (and will deal less) ... so the 2017 G80 truly is a just a more expensive Hyundai Genesis  - 2015/2016 owners got the same car at a substantial savings!

I wonder if the led headlights are as bright as the hids...because the hids are extremely bright and I just cant imagine leds being brighter...but then again my dads car is pretty bright and it has leds, however I wouldnt say its brighter than the hids.

The only thing I would want more in these headlights are the adaptive part where it turns the lights as the car turns.

Not sure, but I suspect that they are plenty bright - and they do look nice. They are adaptive and described as follows:

"The beam patterns are changed accordingly to each situation to provide a wider view for safe driving even during the night and at a high speed."

damn that does sound kind of cool...and I guess the leds would last longer, but wonder how you would change the leds if they go out. I doubt its just a bulb like the hids.

They'd both likely last longer than you will own the car, so not an issue for either in most cases.

Where did he say anything about gadgets? His concern is that his Hyundai Genesis will be treated as a Hyundai and not a Genesis.

One must admit that it is quite odd when the only real difference between a G80 and a Genesis is a few badges! I don't ever recall another brand being created and one of its launch vehicles being merely a rebadged current model?

There is not a lot anyone can do about it as it is a Hyundai decision, but they have created a very strange situation that may alienate some current Hyundai Genesis owners.

Agreed! Hyundai needs to do a major re-haul & revamp it's horrendous marketing strategies, particularly now that they are launching Genesis as a standalone luxury brand. The fact Hyundai chose to essentially re-badge a 2016 Hyundai Genesis model as a 2017 Genesis G80 while the actual revised Genesis G80 with the newer front end, shift lever & rear lower valance isn't available for NA customers is nothing but a typical cheap, penny pinching effort on Hyundai's part & I could see why this ridiculous strategy might upset some current 2015-2016 Hyundai owners.

I wonder if "Genesis" will service our Hyundai Genesis at the new dealerships.
