If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi Guys,
Has any one tried a HID or LED conversion kit for High beams on First generation 2009-2013 Genesis ? ( I have a 2013 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec)
Korean Auto Imports has featued HID conversion kit for High beams...
I am not sure whether it works because DRL lights draw very little current and thus do they work? Also, HID bulbs in reflector housing- does it not blind the oncoming traffic? I thought that LED kit is far better. Any ideas, suggestions.
Thanks in advance..

Didn't add HID kit to my high beams but did do the low beams using a kit from Diode Dynamics. Technically should have switched the fresnel lenses out for clear but never did. Based on my limited lighting knowledge I wouldn't recommend HID's for high beams since they are not meant to be turned on and off in short intervals. Have not looked at LED high beams but wouldn't think the output would be sufficient. Ended up upgraded to a higher wattage bulb for the high beam.

In no means am I the lighting expert. Hopefully some other guys will chime in who have more knowledge and experience in the lighting department.

So much information on how bad Korean Auto Imports are on this forum and the internet. Shop at your own risk.

Yes I agree 100% with @xiaphin.
I would never put HIDs in hi beam for 3 reasons:

1. Short interval of use
2. The wattage is an overkill in my opinion if you try to match up with a hibeam bulb
3. Does it not kill the DRL function?

Google around some of the stanced Gennys and see what they use.
For me I dont even use my hi beams. I have a CREE LEDs in there so the DRL looks pure white.

I went with Retro Fit Source after trying to rock cheapos. Retro Fit has been awesome in every aspect.

I have been looking at the LEDs for the low beam but remember we use a weird bulb, H11B. The leds I have seen do not come in that flavor.

Just be careful.

My 2cents

Cars that have dim and high beam HIDs don't actually have separate bulbs for each. They have one bulb and when you switch from low beam to high beam the reflector behind the light moves to direct the light in a different pattern.
You would need to install a similar set up that moves the reflector around the bulb to get a Bi-HID set up. If you use a separate HID system for high beams you'll end up wearing out the ballast pretty quickly, HIDs liked to be turned on and left on. On/off is hard on the ballast.
Also, HIDs in a reflector housing universally look like shit.

LEDs are a completely different animal than Halogen, or even HIDs. HID and Halogen stuff isn't technically compatible but HID stuff usually works out OK in Halogen stuff. LED focusing systems are way different, so a HID/halogen focusing system with an LED in it will create a mess and won't really work at all.

You cannot put an LED bulb in a HID or halogen housing and get any sort of usable light. It will only be good for show, but most likely it will end up looking like hell.

So - basically - stick with what we have?

OKAY I ordered them and installed them this weekend.
OMG they are great!!!!! 50watt and nice and bright if I were to use them as hi beams
no issues. I recommend them 1000%. iJDM toy is where I got them.

TRY THEM

I did the same ( 2 months ago ) they look good.
High beam works but not the way it is supposed
DRL works just fine and looks great
Flashing also works.
Inexpensive, so, not an issue !!

Personally I use LEDs for the high beam, the problem with a non factory hi/lo HID is the warm up time, so I defeats the purpose of the high beam.

I wouldn't want to put HIDs in a high beam position simply because of the 'flash to pass' feature. The ballast wouldn't have time to start the bulb. I wouldl think a good LED light in the high beam would be fine provided it receives sufficient voltage to work properly ( see other posts about the DLR issue)
