  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I went on a vacation and left the Genny parked for a week. Got her all washed up and pretty to take the woman on a date and went to start her up. I immediately noticed the steering seemed a bit tight, then realized the power steering fail light was lit up. Tried restarting the car a few times to no avail.

After having to take the wife's Santa Fe, which has never broken in 6 years, I started looking through the manual and my service manual and figured out they call it R-MDPS (rack-motor driven power steering). There are 2 fuses under the hood for this system. There is a 125A one for the motor (holy crap!) and a 10A one for the ECU. Neither one is blown.

Any ideas? And try driving this beast without the motor... I wonder if the dealership will tow it in, I am not sure I want to try driving this thing right now...

Check both your insurance and your dealer's warranty services - either/both may have towing included. Very common on insurance plans now.

Just call Hyundai Roadside Assistance at 1-800-243-7766, they will tow your car to the nearest Hyundai dealer.

Just got off the phone with Roadside Assistance. Other than their horrible on-hold music everything went great. Tow is indeed authorized for free and they will even take it to the dealership I bought it from instead of the closer POS dealer whose name shall never be spoken. They will let me ride with the tow and I hope my dealer will give me a loaner.

I pulled up the bluelink site to get my VIN and noticed there is a red X under Electronic Power Steering...hahaha. Kinda surprised they didn't pick up on that and send me an automated e-mail already. So this should be interesting to see what they find and how long it takes to get parts. I just hope it's blown up and just does not magically start working after they unplug it or something. And I guess I can get my flakey window switch fixed while it's there.

Well that was not expected.... Dealer called and said some type of "rodent" chewed through the harness and took out a wire. But it was far enough away from the plug that it can be spliced and repaired. Said there was some hair and droppings from the suspect left behind. Could be up to $400 to fix it, or so they say. Guess I need to buy a feral cat and chain it to the wheel.

On a good note the window switch was found to be defective and will be replaced for free.

Which window switch was it that they said was defective? Did they say what was defective about it?

I'm interested in that too. My drivers window got erratic one day and my left rear passenger window does not work.

They didn't say which one, but when I pick it up I will try and find out. I am assuming it will be the drivers door switch...

So $260 later I have my car actually drivable again. They had pics showing the harness chewed up in 4 places, and mouse hair stuck to the oil filter housing. Service manager said they coat the wires with vegetable oil now as an eco friendly method to pull them through the loom. Just go back to silicone...geezzz.

As for the window switch they replaced part 93570-B1010-4X. Looks like it's the entire cluster of door buttons/switches and all the guts under them. I think they billed Hyundai ~$400 for the work. I will report back if it fails again...

Did they say what actually failed with the switch? Did you notice anything wrong with the windows switches before you took it in to the dealer?

They didn't say what was "wrong" with the switch cluster...doubt they really know. Physically there seemed to be nothing wrong with the switch, other than the fact the window would not go down unless I played with it for 5 minutes...or touched my nose and ear at the same time... No rhyme or reason as to when it failed, although once it started working it seemed to work until I left it parked for hours.
