  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

All, so somethere very weird happened to me Genesis yesterday. While I was at a stop light in the process of taking a left turn my Genesis completely died. The engine shut off and luckily I had enough moment to cross the intersection and pull to the side. I out the car in park and it started right back up. The car drove fine and drove fine today. Anybody experience the same? Should I take it in? Has there been a SB for this? Thanks in advance.

Get a cheap OBD reader off Amazon and see if it threw a code. If there is nothing, Hyundai would have a hard time knowing where to start.

mine has been losing power, goes completely dead, exit vehicle, power eventually comes back. i took it in and told them about the ground issue i saw on this site

They are called TSB's (technical service bulletins). A recall is usually safety related and coordinated with the NHTSA. All recall's are TSB's, but not all TSB's are recalls.

Yes, you are not the only one. I've had mine (2012 3.8) do it a couple times, and it always starts back up like nothing was wrong. It's extremely rare, but it happens, almost always with a slow speed turn. There has been some discussion in the Genesis forums about this. Some have theorized that it may have to do with over-filling the gas tank. You didn't happen to have just filled it up, did you?

There have been some fuel pump issues. Mine was replaced and the Genny has been perfect ever since. Codes will help.

Interesting and that s good to know. My tank was at about 3/4 when it happened. Emailed he dealer and they told me to take it in. Bringing it in on Friday.

I was very lucky. The dealer had just gone through the whole battery replacement, ground issue with the car I bought because it had been on the lot for about 6 months. I had no idea how big a bullet I dodged until I started participating on this forum.

Yea, it sounds like a ground issue. My wife's Sorento got an engine swap last month and it died on her like 4 times with in 20 minutes. Took it in and it was a engine ground issue.

Hey guys, can I get some clarification on 'died' here. I've had two issues prior to today when I'd get in the vehicle and it was like the battery had been disconnected. HUD or dash brightness reset to max, trip odometer reset, etc..

Today, I went out to the car, unlocked it, hopped in and hit the start button. In the middle of the start-up sequence, the who car went dead. It was like the battery was disconnected altogether. No a single electrical system had power. I opened the trunk (manually) and started wiggling connections to the battery. I don't know if I moved anything (nothing felt like it moved), and I noticed the car was back on. We went for lunch, parked, got out, closed the door, and the car wouldn't lock with the button on the door handle. A moment later, it was fine. Third event was similar to the second. Each time, HID display brightness to full, heater controls reset to Farenheit instead of celcius. I know the Genesis Coupe guys are having random problems with the engine dying, but the electrical continues to function.

It really does sound like a ground issue. Does anyone have info on that TSB?

I"m an electrician, so i took my meter and traced out the problem, turned out to be the positive battery fuse block attached to the battery, i tested to see if it was loose. It just came off post with a little pull. they had to order the part as it was defective and would not tighten down on the battery post.
