  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

I recently purchased CPO genesis 2013 3.8 with 27k miles on it. It's a great car and I really enjoy dynamics and comfort.

Although, there are few steering issues I'm experiencing :

1. Car generally keeps the lane OK but I still have to constantly do micro adjustments with the steering wheel. It's a really weird feeling like the car is disconnected from the steering. It can suddenly change the direction a little bit, it feels like I do not control it. I used to drive sonata 2009 and it was stable like a train on rails on any speed.
With genesis I cannot really relax and have to constantly be focused on keeping lane.

2. Couple days ago we had a pretty windy weather and I noticed that the car a very sensitive to the cross wind. It was literally blowing the car out of lane. Never ever had any issues with sonata 2009 or any other cars I used to have in past.

I have alignment done at dealership and it seems to be within specs.

Tires are new kumho solus kh25, 17 inch wheels.

Anybody else with the same experience?

Dealer also double inspected suspension and said it "like brand new"

Thanks,
Eugene

Had the same experience just yesterday with our new 2016 Ultimate ,like you at first thought it was a cross wind blowing til I realized there was no wind.thinking it may be related to the lane keep assist.
This occurred at around 70 mph on a freeway that I believe may have been restriped in the past ,curious if the LKA was sensing the older stripping and attempting to adjust for them.
Will be following this thread With interest.

This was a relatively common experience with the G1 Genesis (2009-2014), although more of a problem on the 2009-2011. Usually, once the tires get any wear on them with the suspension or alignment out of whack, you can never get it drive straight again with those tires (unless they have very few miles on the them). Once tires begin to wear unevenly, it is almost impossible to correct the problem (although rotating them front to back may help).

The Kumho Solus KH25 is a relatively inexpensive tire (a little over $100) and not the same quality as (for example) the Michelin Primacy MXV4 (which I highly recommend for the Genesis 17" wheels). Also, you didn't say exactly what tread width and aspect ratio the Kumho tires you have installed, to make sure they match the OEM diameter.

Regarding alignment, forget about factory specs. I would recommend a front-end alignment done at a suspension shop that starts with factory specs, but then makes multiple adjustments based on actually test drives to make sure the car is driving straight. Also, if there was a alignment problem caused by a road hazard and a bent part, the dealer who sold you the car may have reason to not tell you about it, since road damage is not covered by warranty, and they don't want to pay to fix it. As I mentioned above, before getting another alignment, tell them to rotate the tires front to back, since the backs usually wear evenly and are less prone to cause steering problems even with some uneven wear.

I found a top notch suspension shop near me by asking a Costco Tire shop, since they don't do alignments, but know who does a good job.

I'm also thinking if installing uniq rigid collar set may solve the problem. Many of forum members claim noticeable improvements after installation.
I will also test drive same model to see if it behaves same way or not.

As for tires, mine are 100% within specs. I can hardly believe that tires may cause such a huge impact on a ride. I would understand a little impact but not that dramatic.

hey did you end up installing rigid collars?
