  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anybody else had this problem? Upon returning from the airport last night, the trunk would not unlatch. Smart keys worked fine, door locks would lock / unlock, but the trunk wouldn't open.

Tried the latch on the trunk itself, the remote, and the trunk release on the driver's door, all to no avail. Finally rescued my luggage and briefcase by going in through the rear seat compartment and releasing the manual latch with a ski pole!

The good news is that it's scheduled for 7,500 mile service on Monday, so I can easily have the dealer look at it ... just curious if there's something obvious I've overlooked ...

Did you try the small manual key that is part of the Smart Key? Push the small release button and slide the key out, then try that in the trunk key hole, left side of trunk.

I tried my manual key, (door, trunk and glove box) just to be sure that it works.

Did you make sure the valet trunk override button didn't get accidentally engaged? It is inside your glove compartment and will completely disable all electronic release of the trunk.

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!! THANK YOU! I put something in the glove box, and must have bumped the switch. All is now right in the Genesis world again ....

7500 miles, and I love it ...

Don't mention it, that's why the forum is here. That switch is a life saver if you got valuables in the car and try to valet park. Turn the thing on and lock the glove bock and take the valet key attachment with you. The valet will hold onto the remote and all's well.

Hahahahahahahahaahah....I got 'burned' by this one before Christmas. We were going to do some Christmas shopping in Tucson, so I popped the trunk before we left and removed some items to make room for our shopping. Then, we got in the car to leave (the drive to Tucson is about 85 miles). Wife gets in and immediately starts rummaging around in the glove box, pulls out the radar detector, etc. She shuts the glove box, and that was that. We drove to our first destination, did our shopping, and then when we went to put the stuff in the trunk, the TRUNK release on the FOB did not pop the trunk. I opened the car and tried the release on the driver's door. Still did not work. So I used the KEY to open the trunk, and made a mental note to 'get it looked at'. Well, two weeks went by before I got around to getting it looked at (and I used the durned KEY for two weeks to open the trunk).

I finally drove it into town one afternoon and stopped by my dealer - pulled in and said "GREAT car but the trunk release stopped working a couple of weeks ago." He smiled and said "do you have a lot of junk in your glove box?" to which I said, "I guess so, my wife stuffs all sorts of stuff in there..." He said "can I have a look" and then I started seeing where this was going...

He opened the glove box and showed me the switch hidden up under the top of the opening and flipped it and BAM! Problem solved.

I said "You guys are GREAT" and left, smiling..... :D

Thank you so much, and thank God for this forum.

I was looking for traction control switch. Any idea if there is one?

Yep. There's a traction control/electronic stability button in the panel of buttons to the left of the steering wheel.

Awesome! Opened right up! Thank you!

Thank you!!!! Thought I was going to have to return to the dealer after checking that the fusee was okay.

I have a 2014 Genesis Coupe 2.0 RT. battery died on it the other day and couldn't get into the trunk to get my tools. Fortunately the jumper cables were not in the trunk. So my question is, for the 2014 Coupe, is there a way to open the trunk with no power to the car? I have looked all over the back of the car to find a key hole, no luck.

Thank you thank you thank you ! I forgot about the switch in the back of the glove box. I must of accidentally hit it when i shoved all my stuff from the side door storage when I got my car washed. It has not been a fun 2 days using my key to open the trunk. Have a great rest of the weekend.

Does the the 2018 g80 have a valet switch?

Pretty sure it does. It also has a valet mode that does a lot more.

Note: this is the 2009-2014 forums. Not the 2018 forums.
