  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I read the owner's manual and it states to: 1) Put the car in park while pressing down on the brake pedal; 2) While continuing to press down on the brake pedal, engage the parking brake; 3) release the pedal. This ensures that the car is being held by the parking brake and not the transmission.

I'm not sure if it's due to the large weight of the car, but whenever I follow this, my car still rocks forward and back like as if my parking brake hasn't been engaged. This didn't happen on my previous cars. Could it be that the parking brake needs the wires tightened, or is this normal for the genny? I'm going to the dealer this week to get an oil change so I might ask them to take a look, but was just curious.

When i'm on a steep incline, I do the same as mentioned but my car holds tight when I let off the pedal. Sounds like the ebrake may be out of adjustment and definitely something for the dealer to look at. Get to where you can park on a hill and try putting the car in neutral and apply the ebrake. Let off the foot pedal and see if you car rolls freely past where it normally does, making sure you keep your foot close by to brake if it does. That will let you know if the ebrake is faulty. Does the ebrake light come on the dash when you apply it?

I always engage the parking brake first, then put the transmission in park.

It would help if you posted the Model Year, Engine Size, and Trim Level Package of your car.

Good points. I drive a 2015 3.8 AWD with signature package, so no electronic parking brake but the manual version. I assume it's an adjustment issue since I found out that the parking brake indicator doesn't come on when I engage it 50% of the time, but only comes on if I press down on the parking brake with more force than usual.

G80 rwd premium with same rockin with ebrake applied on roads with slight or no incline.

That's interesting, especially since your car is not even a year old. I found that it helps if I use the parking brake first before shifting to park as suggested above.

The brake should always be applied before shifting into park. Otherwise, the car rests on the transmission pin instead of the emergency brake.

I tow a boat trailer with another vehicle. Applying the ebrake first is very important on boat ramps.

Just spoke to my service advisor and they didn't find anything wrong with my parking brake. Seems odd that the manual would state something that could put wear on the transmission. I'll remember to use the parking brake first moving forward

I found that strange as I didn't have that problem with the other car. Tried ebrake before shifting to park and car still rolls a little.

a small amount of roll is OK. You need to give a few seconds for the ebrake to apply before shifting into park.
