If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What I miss about American cars....

Been driving the Genesis now for about two months but prior to that had the following american cars the last few years in no paticular order:

2008 CTS
2007 Saturn Outlook
2008 Saturn Aura
2006 Lincoln Zephyr

So it takes a bit getting used to the features / functions of the Genesis although most of them are intuitive (the quick reference guide helps). But there are a few things that I miss that I thought I would share. I'm assuming other folks have some of the same observations.

- Dead pedal location

- GM cars would leave power on for 10 minutes if you didn't open the door. A nice feature. I travel around and when I am on bluetooth call in the Genesis and want to continue the call with the car turned off I can't...have to transfer to the headset and then transfer back after turning on the ACC power. Annoying.

- Speaking of power I miss having the power outlets juiced up all the time. When I have a device needing charging I would need to leave the key in the Genesis to do that if I am going inside somewhere. There should be a way to provide outlet power all the time.

- Ice cold A/C all the time. Where did they do the hot weather testing in this car? Alaska?

- A one push option on the key FOB to open the sunroof and windows on a hot day

- Remote start

- And one last thing...why does the ACC position turn on the radio but not bluetooth? It just seems anything you want to do after the car is off requires the "key" to be turned to the on position (second push) which turns everything on!

Thats about it.....don't get me wrong, I am very happy with my purchase and I'll learn to live with most of the items above I just have had them for so long I would have assumed a car like the Genesis would have some of what I consider to be basic items. Didn't even give it a second thought when I leased it. BTW my Genesis is a cab red premium plus.

I agree with all of this. I feel myself longing for my '98 Buick Regal when it comes to the things you mention.

As for the A/C, I agree, but now that I've started to make sure the recycle button is on, the A/C cools down much faster. Still not as fast as I'd like, but now it's acceptable.

The Genesis is so well executed you have to nit pick in order to find a whole lot wrong with this car. After my last Cadillac started to fall apart I swore off American cars forever. It seems to me that these American car companies have become so Byzantine in nature that their products are a direct reflection of their culture. It's sad really when a once "crappy little" korean car company can build a car like this and the Americans with all their experience and access to capital and rich heritage, build cars that are at best acceptable. Yes, I love Corvettes and the new SS Camaro looks awesome, but those cars are low production high barrier to entry vehicles. There's a saying in golf, "Drive For Show, Putt for Dough." Looks like we forgot about the short game. It's embarrassing.

I miss the torque....

I love the high rev v8 but it doesn't really come alive till about 5k rpm, whether it was a dodge 318 or a chevy 350 a small block made gobs of torque just off idle.

I wouldn't trade the Tau for anything but I grew up with that low end torque and miss it.

Wally MN - Pushrod V8's, sound awesome, throw you back in your seat, great visceral, emotional driving. 8 miles to the gallon, not so much.
The Ford Taurus SHO looks promising, but once again, not a high production vehicle. The regular Taurus just kinda reminds me of a front wheel drive rental car, that is at best, not embarrassing to be seen in.

For hard driving I really love running the Tau to 6k rpm, amazing every time, "waking the beast" And you are right, I get a nice 23 MPG (mostly highway) with the TAU. I don't think the american torque curve is better it is just something I grew up with and miss.

I think I would miss it a LOT less if the Genesis would fully disable the nanny and allow me to leave a little tread when I am in my "big kid" mood.

I love the low end torque too. It's what's great about trucks. Life is full of compromises. The Genesis is a great compromise. Sounds like you need a weekend car. A coupe may be in your future.

Not a chance, The point of the Genesis was my commuter car would also be my toy. to date I have no regrets. It is a great car for the 95 mile daily commute and fun to drive when I need it to be.

95 miles, the humanity?!?! I think if most of your driving is on the highway you will love this car. Big, roomy, and flies down the highway like silk. If you live in the Northeast, say Philly, Boston, North Jersey, NYC, this car would piss you off. Too big too park, too harsh on those destroyed roads.

My commute is 45 miles each way , mostly 2 lane highway. no lights, no traffic.
(plus for living in the midwest). Total commute time is 38 minutes each way.

That's about the average time for my morning commute...15 miles on the freeway. :(

This is why a bought a second vehicle a couple of weeks ago. Having owned the Genesis since Mid January and have over 11,000 miles on it.

Now I pretty much only drive it on the weekends and will be stored in the winter keeping the miles down even more (and because the Genesis sucks ass in the snow, and in colder temps with stock tires).

The Genesis is just too nice of a machine. One that gives great pleasure when behind the wheel.

I don't get the pleasure in the winter even if there is no snow on the roads.

The summer is just that......Summer:D Fun times.....

I agree with your points. I know many will disagree, but I don't find my Genesis (w/ tech package) all that technologically advanced. Even my 07 Silverado has: remote start, memory profiles attached to key fob, accessory delay, etc. My wife's mid-level Camry has real bluetooth integration (transfers the phone book), remote start, etc.

I do like the Genesis and find a couple of features like the backup camera to be neat. It's definitely lacking in the tech arena, IMHO though. For whatever reason, I find simple things like the phone book to be enraging -- there's no way I'm going to enter ~150 names/phone numbers one letter and number at a time. The iPod integration is also shaky at best... functional for sure, but lacking.

It's a nice car... Hyundai has come a long ways since the 90's. I'm doubtful that I'll hang on to this car very long though. I'm somewhat regretful that I didn't go with another Lexus or give something like the MKS a shot. Then again, much of that could be attributed to the fact that I've owned it for a bit over a month and it's spent a good portion of that at dealers.

That's an easy $10 fix. See my pics.

I used to have a "commuter car" a 2005 Toyota Corolla, I got 40 MPG and was being to HATE the drive to and from. Now I enjoy the ride, even looking forward to it.

I work in a job that allows me to work from home on bad winter days (and the next 3 months while I lay in bed recovering from my motorcycle accident)

Sorry to hear about your accident......what kind of bike?

2004 HD Wide Glide with 103 screaming eagle engine. It was a pretty bike.

Can't remote start be added aftermarket for those who want it?
