  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Best look at the Genesis G70 yet!

I am anxiously waiting for the release of the G70 sport. I would love to see a better back up and all around view camera compared to the G80, a clearer LCD screen and available/optional red leather interior. Even the 2018 Camry is offering a red interior with their top trim model, so why not Genesis?

I hope the exterior styling of the G70 sport is as aggressive as in the G80 sport. I also hope the 3.3 L twin turbo engine producing 365 hp is brought over to the G70. Being a lighter car, it could hit 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds (as fast as an $80k Maseratti Ghibli S Q4) or less. That would make it the fastest Genesis sedan. MPG could even be better compared to the heavier G80.

If Genesis prices this car aggressively, it would sell a lot and really propel the brand to the next level a la Lexus, IMO.

Seats for the G70? Does anyone know if they will have adjustable side bolsters? Sure hope so. The 114 inch wheel base is perfect and it is what the 1st generation Genesis WB was. If it is a hatch back, that will be nice also. I have the 2015 5.0 Ultimate -- love it, but wheel base is a bit long at 119", but still love this awesome 5.0 Genesis. Regards

I agree with G80 dash being bland. I drove one while getting my 2015 5.0 Ultimate serviced - never checked to see what models of the G80 they even produced. I like the 2015 so much better that I did not bother looking. Cannot wait for the G70 smaller wheel base, and I hope a hatch back with fold down seats, and PLEASE hope it has adjustable side bolster seats!!!!!!

.

This is directly related to the G70 class. I think Genesis should , and probably already are at least on a pre-planning stage, be preparing for the car coming from left field ... that is America .. which is about to disrupt every damn thing in this class. If you can get a car with all the attributes of these small sports sedans but runs on electricity .. . . how soon would you be at least going for a test drive ?? BMW is already preparing the all electric 3 series from what I read.

So here is the new guy : http://www.caranddriver.com/features/2018-tesla-model-3-everything-we-know-feature

There is lot of hype on Tesla but it will be a long time before electric cars have mass adoption. Even if people wanted them above the 1% of cars now, our current electric grid is nearly at capacity and mass electric cars would bring it down without trillions of $ and decades of investment. I was recently at an electric industry trade show where there were interesting talks on this dirty secret of electric cars no one talks about. In the US at least our grid is dangerously obsolete and simply can't handle more than about 5% electric car share.

Kia is offering a red interior on the Stinger in Korea.

Overall, think the regular G70 is better than the G80 - tho doesn't quite have the looks of the New York concept (design of the G70 was frozen before the NYC).

Not a liftback - gonna have to go for the Stinger (albeit slightly longer WB) if you want the hatch rear.

Supposedly most if not every Genesis model will get some sort of electrification and Hyundai is working on 1 or 2 electric-specific models.

The smart thing to do would be to make the 1st one a compact EV crossover.

A few things I wanted to mention about the upcoming G70.

Some on this and other forums have mentioned the upcoming Kia Stinger as a competitor to the Genesis G70 and G70 sports.

From Kia's website :

POWERTRAIN:
-2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cyl engine, 255 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque
-3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, 365 hp and 376 lb.-ft. of torque
-2nd-generation 8-speed automatic transmission with 5 drive modes
-Centrifugal Pendulum Absorber (CPA) torque converter
-Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control system (All-Wheel Drive models)

The G70 and the Stinger will share the same engine, so performance will depend on the weight of either car. For the G70 to be a success in North America, I am hoping the Genesis brand sets aside resources for a massive ad-campaign. Some might ask, why do you need to spend money on marketing if the car can sell itself? My answer is simple: brand awareness. They (Genesis) are fairly new to the luxury/sport car market and in order to attract a lot of buyers (not those of us in this forum), they need to prove why the G70/G70 sport is a better all around car than say a 3 or 4-series, a C class, an A4, or Lexus IS/ES. Some people will stick with those brands for name recognition or loyalty. However, I am looking for an AWD sports sedan that is fun to drive, reliable, and does not cost an arm and a leg to maintain. I am hoping the MPG rating and the 0-60 mph time is better compared to the bigger G80 sports.

Although the spy photos do show some of the features of the car, performance-wise, we will just have to wait until the car is released.

Best look at the interior yet...

Wow! I'm really liking those images of the interior. Thanks for sharing.

Any word on a 2 door coupe for the G70?

- - - Updated - - -

Is the LCD screen retractable or does it stay out like in the Mercedes C-Classe? Also, does anyone know if the G70 will come out as a 2 door coupe?

I've been wanting the Venace to come out since I saw it debut, what a beautiful concept. Just hope it comes out without much lost in translation.

I loathe interiors where the entertainment screen looks like it was stuck on the dash as an afterthought, hopefully it is a retractable or else it is a deal breaker at for me.

I dunno, I kind of like the pop up looking screens, Gives a sort of contemporary look to the interior.

G70 looking good , I think the rear looks like a C-class though.

Yep.. sort of CLS from the back IMO. BMW from the side ??? Front kind of reminds me of Infiniti which I think is a mistake. But an amalgam is probably the best as they know that they are'nt going to start making history for some original design and they don't have any cache value anyway.

I understand the G70 will be released in South Korea first on 9/15 before arriving stateside next year. Any idea what pricing will be or what Genesis is aiming for? mid 30s? I am leaning towards the G70 sports.

Other than the wheels, I don't care for it. I'll stick the my Genesis/G80! Oh, and that screen? If it doesn't retract... DEUCES! As someone said, it's like an after thought! Like, someone decided to stick a laptop monitor to the dash!
