  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Noisy!

I apologize for the overreaction if that's the case, speakthetruth - sometimes thoughts and expressions don't translate well over the web. :)

its funny how i hear all these bs complaints on here and weve sold about 20 genesis and havent had anyone report any of these oddball stories i hear on here. just strange to me.

I read the whole thread. You said it and you meant it. Don't spend time trying to make people who were offended by it apologize. If there's problems with these cars, or any other cars, let's be allowed to hear about it on the appropriate forums.

Name calling is against the rules. Please don't do it anymore...

Been going back and forth with Hyundai and Good Year about the tires. Part of the noise is being attributed to the fact that the outside of the tires are feathering, Good Year said they won't cover excessive wear due to alignment issues. The vehicle was out of alignment from the factory and was recently realigned by the dealer.

I've gotten nothing but a runaround from Hyundai - "Genesis Team" who continue to say tires are not part of the OEM warranty and I need to go to the tire dealer (even though their lack of proper alignment caused the issue.)

I've not yet decided if I want to just eat the cost of new, good tires, pursue Hyundai or just dump the vehicle, cut my losses and go back to Lexus.

Are you saying that your car came with GoodYear tires? I thought all Genesis come with Dunlop SP Sport 5000m tires.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Good Year owns Dunlop.. it's their, according to the Good Year dealer, "entry to mid-level OE tire"

Not sure where I can understand why you would entertain the thought of "going back to Lexus". At least where it comes to loosing money. Wouldn't that just cost considerably more than buying new tires? Especailly when you consider the loss you will take by selling your car. Seems like a new set of tires is the best option if Hyundai will not budge. Have you tried reaching out to corporate Hyundai N.A.? Seems like I can recall others having success with other issues. Worth a shot before doing something drastic. Good luck!

I guess that means that your Goodyear dealer does not sell Dunlops?

The Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M OEM Genesis tire is not an entry to mid-level tire, but it is not the best rated tire in that class either ("Ultra High Performance All-Season" according to Tirerack.com).

It's not about the money, it's about the service. Yes, I could easily spend $1,000 for a new set of tires, but then, I'd still be left with a vehicle the manufacturer did not stand behind when they should have and honestly, that would irk me every time I got in the vehicle. Why would I want a car that a manufacturer does not properly stand by?

NOW... with that said, I got a call from Hyundai corporate this afternoon. They're sending a factory rep next week to take a look at the vehicle and hopefully work with the dealer at rectifying the issue. This group seems eager to resolve the issue, so I hold out hope that something good will come of it.

would you go back to hyundai if lexus gave you a problem with something?

Given that they consistently rate at the top of nearly every customer satisfaction and quality survey I've ever seen, I doubt there would be a problem they wouldn't be willing to resolve. Fortunately, I've never had an issue that required dealing with Lexus on that level. If they didn't resolve a driveability issue, however, no, I would not reward them with continued or repeat business. Why didn't I just stay with Lexus, you might ask? Wife loved her Sonata and we all liked the Genesis. :)

I could be wrong, but I think all Good Year dealers are Dunlop dealers as well. Mine is anyway... to clarify though, he said that Dunlop are GOOD YEAR's entry to mid-level tire.

I get the sense some of you may be taking my frustration personally. You shouldn't. It's quite clear that the Genesis is working out well for most. It's a nice car (if it weren't, I wouldn't have considered it myself.) I'm glad most of you are happy with it. I'm not. Mine sits in the garage because the roaring noise drives not only myself, but my wife and daughter crazy. $40,000 for my experience thus far - I have every right to be frustrated and I'm quite confident that in my shoes, you would be as well. My intent is merely to share my experience as it develops, not feed the trolls or upset happy owners. There's good and bad with every manufacturer... I can deal with that so long as it's made right.

I'm leaving it with the factory rep and dealer all next week... hopefully it will be "right" by the end of the week.

LLT,
I am sorry you are having such a problem with the tires.

it would seem you must have a bad set of tires, the car has ample sound deadening it the tires are able to transmit that much noise it must be a problem.

I assume the dealer already looking for abnormal tread wear (that much noise must be causing tread wear)....

I wish you luck with the regional reps next week.

Just checking in - I'm not in the country right now; I can agree with the poster that the Dunlops are pretty fracking noisy. I've noticed that in my Genesis (and have posted about it in a couple of different threads) and IMHO, the immediate solution is probably to get a different set of tires. The tires that came with car are covered under their own warranty which is separate from the car's. Now if the noise caused by wear which in turn was caused by a defect in the suspension, then you probably have a case for the company replacing the tires.

Beats me why Hyundai chose the Dunlops in the first place. Let's hope they change the OEM tires with a quieter model.
