Exhaust for the G80 5.0

I recently purchased my 1st G80. I am interested in upgrading the exhaust to get a little more sound, nothing drastic. Anyone have suggestion or possibly audio clips.

I CANNOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH TO YOU, to look into getting Electronic Cutouts.. you get best of both worlds, you can ride stock quiet anytime you want or you can get a MEAN GROWL, that is better than any exhaust.... BASICALLY, running straight pipes.. the brand i got were the QTP.. all in all for the cutouts and installation at my local muffler and exhaust shop, ran me $925... best MOD, i have EVER DONE.. hands down..[video=youtube_share;jRkYPyEpNLQ]https://youtu.be/jRkYPyEpNLQ[/video]

The subject of exhaust has been "exhausted" over Genesis forums for years. Borla and Magnaflow have produced cat-back systems. My own personal experience with Magnaflow is horrible drone. Been there, done that.
Drone is a big problem with any exhaust system. OEMs have addressed the problem with so-called "active exhausts", which are found in Corvette/Comaro and some Jaguars. In active exhausts under light motor load (drone zone) exhausts empty into a large chamber, which lessens drone to a minimum. Under hard wide open throttle a valve opens and exhaust exit through an almost straight through chamber. The valve is either a spring-loaded valve or electrically opened.
Magnaflow has a Dynomax muffler line, which is an active exhaust muffler with a spring loaded valve. I installed one on a '12 RSpec. Installation is tricky requiring a good exhaust specialist to line up the ports correctly. The result was a nice quiet tone that passed "the wife test", and even nicer when I got on power. Drone was muted to a very low level. Drove the car with the Dynomax for 30K miles with no problems. There is an "urban legend" out there that the Dynomax muffler springs fail, but my experience with it was very positive.
Dyomax mufflers are fairly cheap like about $125 or less each.
So, my advice to anyone looking for a nice sound is to go the Dynomax route with just the rear mufflers changed. Don't mess with the central resonator.

Do you have the name or model number for the Borla or Dynomax exhaust?

I only found a Borla exhaust for the 1st gen Genesis and it seems the Dynomax VT muffler has been discontinued.

BTW, magnaflow and dynomax are two separate companies.

Saintt is correct. Dynomax is a separate company from Magnaflow. I did check the Dynomax site - the VT muffler line is no longer listed, which means it is withdrawn from the market. You can still find VT mufflers on Amazon, Jegs and Summit, but.....?
This means that drone will continue to be a major problem with any after market exhaust.

Please Follow Sxth Element Engineering. I drove my 5.0 up to there shop in South Carolina. They are making a production exhaust as we speak using my car. They will havedyno numbers before and after. Also they are designing a custom Intake for the 5.0 available in carbonfiber

Been there but only the exhaust for a G4 rear diffuser is available at the moment. I've been in contact with them and they're working on the unit for the stock diffuser. They're having trouble with the unfinished look for the stock duel tips. Told them it wasn't a problem with me, as I don't really need to invest nearly $900.00 in a carbon diffuser on top of the cost of the exhaust. I believe variety is the spice of life and the same goes with this exhaust. Keeping the OEM look is more important than adding the carbon diffuser. No offense, it's just a personal view point. As others said - the bad thing with aftermarket mufflers is the drone, especially with a V8

I have the Dynomax VT mufflers on my 5.0 (1st gen but same engine basically) and they are PERFECT. No drone whatsoever and just sounds like it should from the factory when driving around town but when you get on it...man it sounds mean!
Problem is they dont make these mufflers anymore! so you may have to look around online and maybe find some used ones? I got mine off Ebay nearly 2 years ago

I just installed the Magnaflow cat-back system ( part 19116) last weekend. I read all the previous comments about dreaded drone and was expecting the same. I was surprised to hear no drone at all. It's louder than stock but just enough for me. One thing I noticed is that the Magnaflow resonator can actually contact part of the body shell since it is a bit wider than stock. If you don't take care to adjust the fit the contact will send noise and vibration into the cabin and I suspect that may be what some others have heard and described as drone. Hot exhaust.com even has a 20% off sale which I took advantage of. Sorry no sound clips but it's a big improvement and I highly recommend the system.
