If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, my rear alloy wheels are corroding, from the inside edge of the spokes. I'm hoping I can get them replaced under Warranty.
Anyone else have this, and were they replaced?

Posting some pictures would be helpful.

Rears corroding but front ok? Have you tried removing it to see it is corrosion and not some strange coating buildup? Most can be cleaned by rubbing with crumpled aluminum foil and Coke, then a wax or protective coating.

It's definitely a removal of the paint layer. The dealer says that other cars here in the UK have had the same problem and is covered under warranty. It's booked-in for inspection so I'll let them remove all four wheels and inspect them.

Any news on what happened with your rims? I've noticed the same type of corrosion on the central hubs (right outside of the genesis logo plug) on three of my four rims. When I called my dealer, he said that typically, that's not covered under warranty?!?!? I'd like to see what your experience was.

Yuck... I would think that would be covered!

That looks like it was caused by some kind of physical contact with the rim. If so, why would that be covered unless it was a new car delivered to customer that way?

I think you are correct. Looking closer there seems to be some horizontal lines like a scrape. Actual inspection will show that easily.

And you'd be wrong. That's what makes it so weird. These spots are completely smooth, as this is actually under the clear coat. Additionally, it's occurring on 3 our of my 4 rims at a similar spot. Hence the question.

Just noticed today, yes, 2 or 3 areas per front wheel the size of half a fingernail devoid of the shiny silver stuff.

The UK uses salt on the roads and we just had a winter with many frosty days.

An evaluation job for the Hyundai guys at the next service.

I just had a wheel repaired (curb scuff) and the shop asked me if I wanted the "clear coat" treatment (no extra charge). I asked them if my other wheels were clear coated and they said they didn't know, but probably were due to the MSRP of the vehicle. I thought clear coat was only for the upper body paint.

Hope your experience was better than mine. Unfortunately, my Hyundai dealer said this was "normal wear and tear", and wasn't covered under any associated warranty. While they haven't gotten worse since my original post, they still drive me nuts....

If you cant get it repaired/replaced under warranty there's several wheel repair shops that can repair that kind of damage and you'll never know it was there. They'll clear coat it after the repair and it will be good to go... Might be $100 a wheel though

In the meantime, I just dipped the rims to help protect them. I actually think I like them black more than I like the factory finish, so I may just have them repainted and kill two birds with one stone...

Aluminum wheels with a brushed/machined finish like ours are clear coated, if not the aluminum would oxidize and dull. If completely painted, they may or may not be clear coated.

I just had a curb scrape fixed like new for $160 including clear coat.
