  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Whats the G70 pricing already !!

I agree Infiniti "was" a great car I've owned a couple of them but when they went to the Q series their quality level dropped and why I think they are discounting. Also Infiniti was a great bang for the buck but their pricing kept going up where today they are expensive and why I dropped them from my top 3 lists.

That may be what the hold up is but i do agree that around 55000 would be alot more attractive as like you said 55 and up you are looking at some premium cars with known track records and resale value witch is important to me

I'm just guessing, but I don't see how the SMALLER G70 would sell against the G80 (mostly maxed out at 55K). I'm very interested in the G80, but concerned that last year's G80 is available for 40K or less. A 15K bite to get a new one. Have no idea as to how other cars at this price point hold up at the one year point, but 15K seems very exessive.

Some of those Toyotas are pretty nice.

I'm just not keen on the quality of them. Yes, they run forever with proper maintenance but they are only an "A to B" car. Supras are a legend so I agree that they made a good sport's car. We now have the 86 which isn't bad but lacks character and power.

It won't sell against it. If someone is into the G70, they will cross-shop with the 3 series, C300, maybe a Malibu, Fusion, Camry, Sonata, the list goes on. The G80 is more 5 series size, maybe even 7 series because my back seat is UUUGE (Donald Trump). If you like the G80, you should look into CPO '15 or '16 Hyundai Genesis's, exactly the same car without the wing emblem on the trunk. I did the conversion and looks much better, how it should have looked the whole time. They are hugely discounted from lease returns, which mine was, and I got a great deal. Don't take the hit with resale value and be upside down on a new car. Mine still has a little less than three years on the BTB warranty, pretty much a brand new warranty with most manufacturers. If you're willing to travel like I did to save some money, you should look into it.

I think the perception of Korean cars is in a transitional stage much like the Japanese cars were when they were stepping out of the bottom-tier role into making better cars. Their cars clearly are better than they were several years ago. But they're clearly not as well established as the major Japanese brands and certainly not yet comparable in reputation to the premium Japanese brands like Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura. I think they're the real competition, more than BMW or Mercedes. Comparisons are often made to the latter two but I honestly think it's Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura buyers who will most seriously consider a Genesis G70.

I completely agree with Genesis targeting the Japanese luxury brands to help bolster brand perception and establish themselves as a luxury competitor. But it looks like Hyundai/Kia doesn’t feel the same way as the “loaded” Japanese competitors (other than Infiniti) all cost less than the Kia Stinger (which I also think is way overpriced).

Acura TLX Advance SH-AWD $46,715
IS350 F-Sport AWD $52,265

I don't see how the G70 3.3 can be priced in a way that sells against the Germans but doesn't cannibalize Stinger sales. There are $53k Stingers sitting on Kia lots here. The buyer looking at the German offerings at $53k can choose between a larger engine or a loaded turbo 4. Kia gives both at that price, so I understand where they are coming from in a purely numbers-on-paper level. I think the G70 is much more stylish inside and out than the Stinger, but from a "new" brand with an unknown dealer network. This seems like a wash to me; what premium is that going to command? At $60k the buyer can get a pretty well-equipped 340xi or C43. Why are they going to choose the G70 if it's within a few grand of that?

That answer is “they are not”.

The only way to combat brand perception, dealer network issues (either the“low rent” feeling from getting serviced at a Hyundai dealer or being required to travel a long distance to a “Genesis Only” dealer), etc. is to have way more content at a much lower price (at every trim level). I can live with a lot more negatives in that case.

It's my hope that the G70 follows the pricing model of the Stinger, but with a $3-4k premium due to standard feature content and "luxury" branding. A loaded AWD Stinger GT2 for $52 is f--king absurd to me, but you still get a lotta car for the price. A loaded AWD G70 sport at $52k sounds about right, because I see the Q50 Red Sport as the direct competitor for this car, even though it has lower output engine.

If the G70 base engine with manual transmission can be had for ~$40k USD, then it jumps to the top of my list for next vehicle. It seems the base model will have enough standard features to keep me happy (don't need nav or upgraded stereo), and I will be ecstatic t get an affordable new sporty sedan with 6MT.

The US really got screwed on the Stinger pricing. In Canada a GT Limited (American GT2 plus 360 camera, wireless phone charging and free UVO connect for 5 years) is just under $52k Canadian, including delivery / PDI. The US does get a longer power train warranty an additional interior colour and the 2.0t variant that currently isn't available up here.

I read that Canadian pricing for the G70 was supposed to be announced when the car was revealed at the Montreal Auto show in mid-January, but that's come and gone. Canadian G80 pricing is $55k for the 3.8 Lux, $58k for the 3.8 Tech, $62k for the 3.3T Sport and $ 65k for the 5.0 Ultimate, so anything over $55k for the G70 3.3T Sport is into G80 territory, albeit at a lower equipment spec. If pricing for that car is much more than $55k I'm likely into the Stinger GT Limited because the free service over 5 years and the whole Genesis at Home thing isn't worth any more. The G70 pricing will be fixed, versus the ability to shop dealers on price for the Stinger and the pick up service for maintenance is just an opportunity for the lot guy from the local Hyundai dealer - because that's where the service will be done - to hoon the crap out of your car there and back. My office is around the corner from the off site storage yard for the local Audi dealer and the way they beat on those cars taking them back to the dealer is criminal.

Just my $0.02 - $0.0132 US. :)

Kia Stinger GT Ltd is 51,670 here in Canada. At the Montreal Auto Show I was told by several Genesis people they are expecting 57-58k for the top trim G70.

For me, the premium price is justified- it's a much more polished car with a lot more bells & whistles, but if I was them I would price it closer to 55k to really compete with the other market players. If they want to really take bargaining out of the equation they have to price accordingly.

I Agree on that point the G70 is said to be a bargain compared to the Germans but that is comparing sticker price but when the haggling starts the sticker price of BMW and the like will come down 5 grand or more so the price difference will be less of an issue

Both the lexus and the infiniti are somewhat lacking on the interior front in comparison, but yeah 55-57k would put the G70 at same level pricing. I do like the at-home service thing with Genesis though- I think that is worth a fair bit, but to be really competitive 55k would be ideal, not 57k.

As some of you have stated, the Stinger's price is a bit high. If they had all the features, plus the features Canada got and priced it at $49k, that would have been perfect. That would enable the G70 to be right at the $55k mark which it should be at for a brand new car from a brand new company. I was thinking hard about the Stinger, test drove one and loved it. However, I couldn't convince myself it was worth $50k. Low mileage CPO in 3 years, it'll be under $30k. That sounds a hell of a lot better or have the options missing from other markets on the 2019-2020 model

Pricing still isn't confirmed yet but expect $57500, +/- $1000. Genesis Canada is still in negotiation with Genesis Korea regarding price.

I would like to request that we get the folks from Kia Canada (that negotiated the final price and content of Canadian Stinger GT with Kia Korea) to come down to the US and negotiate on our behalf for the US G70! :eagerness:

A bit higher than I hoped, but still worth it. Question for you- what tyres will it come with, and what winter tyres would you put on it?

The non-Sports will probably have Conti/Michelin AS tires and the Sports will have Michelin PS4s, a very nice high-performance summer tire. Out of the two OEM-approved winter tires (Michelin X-Ice3 and Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3) I actually preferred how the G80 Sport handled in snow/slush with the Pirellis over the Michelins -- I felt as if I had more control when kicking the rear out and oversteering. The X-Ice 3 is probably better on straight ice.

I've experienced the same with X-Ice on snow/slush, to the point of being disappointed with them.

One service that would be a massive sales benefit would be storage of off season tires/rims, and complimentary changeovers. That would be more important to me than some of the other included items, like map upgrades for one. Getting this service elsewhere, without having other service done like oil changes or at least buying the wheels and tires, is most difficult to find in my area at any reasonable cost.

Another question you may not know yet involves minus sizing and what will fit. Trying to make any small aspect ratio wide contact patch winter tire sidewall work well in winter is a lost cause. With 18's on the Dynamic, obviously pretty much any 18" wheel will work, but will 17's clear the calipers? And with the Sport that has staggered size 19", what minus size combination will clear the calipers.

I was at a G70 launch event for Downtown Genesis in Toronto. Had a chance to talk to Patrick Danielson, product planner for Genesis Canada, about the G70. He advised me that all sport models will be coming with Michelin PS4 and not the PS4s. I was a little disappointed, but the PS4 should be fine for the street driving.

I attached the different trim options for the G70 in Canada. There is a typo on the rear tires for the sport trims. It lists them as 255/40/19, but they should be coming with 255/35/19.

Interesting note, was that the 2.0T Sport will be coming with a manual handbrake. Patrick was even able to show me a picture of the manual shiftier and handbrake for the 2.0 Sport.:D
I was also told that the 2.0T Sport will be coming with a bespoke exhaust that will have more crackle and burbles and will be louder than other G70 exhaust.

I have a 3.3T Sport on order, but the 2.0T Sport is also looking good Can't wait until they are available for test drives so I can make a decision. I was told the first shipment should be available late April. Unfortunately, the 2.0T Sport will not be available until summer.

Genesis Edmonton does do free tire storage with the purchase of winter tires. :)

17s will likely cause clearance issues. The 19s can do a square tire size for winter tires but 18s may not clear the Brembos.

Patrick Danielson is my friend. :)

I did say Michelin PS4s as in plural of PS4, not PS4Ses. ;) The PS4 is perfectly fine for street driving. Rumor has it there may be a more track-ready version of the G70 with the PS4S tires on them sometime in the future.

You are correct regarding the handbrake; Patrick also showed me that picture. You are also correct regarding the 2.0T Sport having the most aggressive exhaust out of all trims. It actually even bumps up the power of the 2.0T from 252 HP to 255 HP but only the finest of butt dynos would be able to feel the difference!
