With only 100 dealers in the USA, the math doesn't work out for any dealer in South Dakota. It's not what you dealer wants, its what Genesis Motors is willing to give him (which is no Genesis Motors dealership, at least to start with).
I am sure there is a luxury car market in SD, but it's a matter of numbers.
The Houston TX metro area has more people than the 11 lowest population states combined (which includes SD). Dallas-Ft Worth TX metro area is even larger than Houston. Then there are the cities of San Antonio and Austin in the state of Texas. Obviously CA is even bigger, so those two states combined could easily suck up 10 of the 100 dealers.
I was saying "so they say" because I know already know there's a market. Having less than 900,000 people in a state doesn't mean there isn't a market, it just means we aren't going to have the sales figures like the cities you stated. I see many luxury brands but in our city, for example, there are only 74k people. Go to the eastern side of the state in Sioux Falls, you have around 150k people. The brands have their dealerships there which is about a 4 hour drive from Rapid. I get why they aren't selling them here. They are considering that a 4-6 hour drive to Sioux Falls, Denver, etc. is okay for some owners. It's not. But, it makes sense so I won't talk done about Genesis or any luxury brand for that matter.
