  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Whats the G70 pricing already !!

With only 100 dealers in the USA, the math doesn't work out for any dealer in South Dakota. It's not what you dealer wants, its what Genesis Motors is willing to give him (which is no Genesis Motors dealership, at least to start with).

I am sure there is a luxury car market in SD, but it's a matter of numbers.

The Houston TX metro area has more people than the 11 lowest population states combined (which includes SD). Dallas-Ft Worth TX metro area is even larger than Houston. Then there are the cities of San Antonio and Austin in the state of Texas. Obviously CA is even bigger, so those two states combined could easily suck up 10 of the 100 dealers.

I was saying "so they say" because I know already know there's a market. Having less than 900,000 people in a state doesn't mean there isn't a market, it just means we aren't going to have the sales figures like the cities you stated. I see many luxury brands but in our city, for example, there are only 74k people. Go to the eastern side of the state in Sioux Falls, you have around 150k people. The brands have their dealerships there which is about a 4 hour drive from Rapid. I get why they aren't selling them here. They are considering that a 4-6 hour drive to Sioux Falls, Denver, etc. is okay for some owners. It's not. But, it makes sense so I won't talk done about Genesis or any luxury brand for that matter.

Remember this 100 dealer number if correct is just the beginning not end all. It doesn't mean Genesis over the next several years won't grow this number like Lexus and the other luxury brands did. Of course sales/demand etc will be the driving factor going forward and that demand will driven by the portfolio of cars/suv's Genesis has to offer. Hopefully "build the cars and they will come" works in Genesis's case.

Understood, I wasn't suggesting that that there is no luxury car market in SD, but in a game of musical chairs with only 100 chairs (dealerships), the state of SD is unlikely to get any Genesis dealerships of the 100 that are initially allocated, regardless of how many existing Hyundai dealers ins SD wants one.

That needs to be modified to say: "build the SUV's and they will come." SUV's are now the number one style (including crossovers) of vehicle in the world, regardless of whether the manufacturer is mostly at the low end, or is a luxury brand (or even super luxury brand like Bentley, etc).

They're not going to come 50+ miles... People are just going to end up at Volvo or Audi.

And in many areas in the US that will be the case, how many MINI dealerships are in your state? Genesis's is not out to conquer the world they only need to sell enough cars and have enough dealerships to satisfy whatever volume they are trying to or need to achieve to stay in business. I know it sucks for those folks that really want a Genesis but live in a rural area of the country those folks like you said will buy something else but that's business.

50 miles is about my max distance I would travel. When I move back to Ohio, that's about a distance from Dayton to Cincinnati. I'm alright with that. Volvo sure is making some nice SUV's. The XC90 and XC60 look very good. I'm still not giving in to the sheep world we live in today. The lady can DD that

+1. As long as they meet or beat their own sales goals and customer satisfaction rankings, that's all their worried about.

Another part of the dealership distribution issue impacts people who like to travel longer distances. If you set out on a summer vacation that will have you driving across multiple states, you have to consider how available dealerships that can service your car will be in the case of mishaps. Maybe Hyundai dealerships will be allowed to perform emergency (non-routine) service if there aren't any Genesis dealerships nearby. The G70 seems like it would be a great car for taking a long-distance trip. It should be comfortable for a couple of people and fun to drive on the open road. But if some sort of mishap puts the car out of commission and there's no service options within a reasonable distance, that would be a deterrent. Even if roadside assistance will come and get you wherever you are, if the distance to the nearest dealership is, say, 300 miles, that could turn a little glitch into a virtual disaster on a vacation.

I've had these little glitches a time or two. It's no big deal if you can go to a nearby dealer and have them look the car over while you go do some recreational stuff nearby. Even if a more involved repair is necessary, you can pretty easily schedule time without blowing the entire trip. But if you have to go a considerable distance, and eat up a considerable amount of time, it's definitely a bummer.

The problem is if the little glitch can be fixed with a generic hose or belt or if it needs a Genesis specific component that perhaps even the dealer does not have in stock. Any shop can replace a starter or alternator if available. If you break down on a Sunday you will be stuck overnight even if it is across the street from a dealer. Having spent a night in Amsterdam NY, another time in St. Louis, I'm not going to worry about it. Gas station off NJ Turnpike exit had a belt on a Sunday morning but I had to put it on myself.

My closest Mini dealer is 60+ miles away (in NH) and I wouldn't buy one of those, either. I do have local Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, Cadillac (x2), Volvo, BMW, Porsche, Jaguar, and Land Rover dealers... I realize that Genesis can't build hundreds of dealerships overnight, but I'd rather deal with mediocre service from a Hyundai dealer than a Genesis dealer an hour or more away. If the Hyundai experience is so bad, maybe corporate should focus on improving that first before reaching deeper into the luxury market.

So deal with a good Hyundai dealer. I've dealt with three different ones and two are very good. I have no problem using them to service my Genesis. I had a Mercedes and the closest dealer to me, well, I'd not let them walk my dog.

The service will be night and day. They shouldn't be anything like the problematic Hyundai service departments you all deal with.

"All" is incorrect. I have two Hyundais and have dealt with multiple dealers' service departments. No "real" problem, just like EdP said. True there are no luxury "entrapments" while waiting, have to be blessed to get any sort of loaner etc. Depends what people want/need/accept from this (hopefully) infrequent encounter.

I have decent experiences with other brands as well, but I'm sure everyone with long experience has their favorite disasters. Mine have been with VW (plug in a VAG for the frequent warning lights on the dash? $ 115- please, separate from the fee to fix Their problem!) and Honda/Acura.

I was meaning "all" as in not just him. Sorry for the misconception. There seems to be a bunch of members on here that are not happy with the service Hyundai provides whether it be service on their car or customer service. The one's that haven't had any problems, I'm happy for you. I haven't had any problems with them. I owned a '15 Sonata a couple years ago and didn't have problems with the service department then. I'll be taking mine in for the 37.5k service so I'll see how I'm treated. Fingers crossed

Just scanned the thread and it doesnt look like pricing has been released yet? Also checked the website and it links out of the US version...

Will be out by end of month apparently. In Canada at least.

I ask Genesis Corporate every few days or so when pricing is coming out. You guys will be the first to know when!

Any word on an update? This a post from 8 March.

Pricing = by end of the month. ETA next month. Production for the first G70s should be wrapping up and be on the boat any day now.
