  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Suspension vs Manufacture Date Survey

I know I asked for more participation from those who find the ride Harsh ( and thanks for doing so) ....... I didn't mean to scare away those who find it acceptable....... it is just as important to hear from you as to your date of manufacture to use for cross referencing

Thanks everyone

For anyone here who is having suspension issues with their Genesis, I would recommend filing a complaint with Hyundai Corporate.

It only takes 5 minutes and you will be issued a case number.

In case of a recall or investigation, you will be contacted directly.

Every pavement seam is felt. I consider the ride unacceptable. An auto that is suppose to be like a Lexus or BMW should not ride like a pickup truck.

Manufacture date 8/21/08, purchased 11/15/08. Now has 8200 miles.
Paved roads acceptable. Anything less than perfect road, NOT acceptable. Black/Saddle 4.6/tech.

Having a 5 wheels alignment checked.
And I had the wheels changed to 17" from 18" , helped some.
Run the air pressure at 32psi helped some
Buying new 17" wheels with width increased by 1" hope to help some more.

Will buy the 2010 shanges if made and possible and not crazy price.
Hyundai should chage it out for us.

built - 6/08
6cyl. w/tech 18" wheels

horrible on all but smooth surface

3-techs 300# each on road test
result :car ok as specified

my minor satisfaction - made them all nauseous !

they could not make eye contact out of guilt !

4.6 Tech

Manufactured: Oct. 30, 2008

Ride: Unacceptably harsh over anything less than a very smooth road, which are few and far between where I live. When I drive my Genesis I frequently feel like Cheech Marin of "Up in Smoke" fame bouncing along the Pacific Coast Highway in his Chevy lowrider, but without the weed.

Have had the car since Jan. and it only has 2,200 miles on the clock. Prefer to drive my MDX if I'm going any distance. Hoping for a suspension modification from Hyundai, even if I have to pay for it. Worst case scenario: Will sell my '09 to a friend who loves the ultra firm ride and buy a 2010 if a "thorough" test drive shows a marked improvement in ride quality. My initial 30 minute test drive didn't include roads with rough and uneven surfaces. My bad.

Dear Gripper,

Don't waste your time and money, it won't remove enough of the problem.
further the tech that told you should be fired as all before him !

This is hyundai's fault and those dishonest bosses know it ! Trusting them to satify is our bad.

I flew F86 in Korea and should have known better.:mad:

Ride is firm, but very acceptable. The car is composed over some stretches of road that confounded the suspension in my Azera. 100% satisfied.

My test drive did involve a poorly maintained back road.

Actually as i pointed out the change to 17" from 18" did help some
The reduction in air pressure did help some.
The change to the Bridgestone has now been tested and did help some.
Running the shock cold so the pressures are lower helps the most so I am truly hoping that replacing the shocks ( dampers) will help some more.
I hope I don't have to replace the springs to a new set with a progressive load rate, but that would help more.

All these things added up will be enough I believe to satisfy me. I like a soft ride. I ran my Phaeton's adjustable air suspension on the soft setting. My 2000 "S" class MB also had a great ride. Even the 2005 Nissan Altima Hybrid i traded in on the Genesis had a very good ride. So Really think it is possible for this car to ride well.

If not I'll sell it and get something else but i am going to give it a hard try. I guess old retired engineers are just built that way "Stubborn" :D

Don,

Which Bridgestones did you go with? Apart from ride, did it make it quieter as well?

What do you mean "running the shock cold?" Thanks.

Harsh - I can feel every single crack, bump, pebble, etc.

The car is only acceptable on smooth asphalt. Unbelievably, the worst is concrete highways. I encountered about a five mile stretch that had my car going up and down like a porpoise that nearly made me sick. It is absolutely unacceptable that an expensive car like this behaves so badly. My dad's Sonata (at half the price of my Genesis) is easily a much better ride.

Outside of this serious issue, I love the car. Best stereo I've ever heard.

Date: July 7th 2009
Suspension: not acceptable, Harsh
Model: V6 Premium package (Canadian Version)

Just got my car 3 days ago. It is a great car inside and out. 7 speakers stereo sounds ok so far but less than I expected.

Anyway, the suspension is a joke. It is so bumpy in most of road condition. I believe Hyundai designed the car to be a sporty sedan, I don't know what the suspension design team was thinking but the suspension is neither firm nor smooth. it is in the middle of no where but UNCOMFORTABLE.

UNACCEPTABLE.

reduce your tire pressure to 33psi (recommended for car)

Thx for this info, I'll try it and post the result.

That was an error on my part, Did not try them. Sorry about that, really.
Still wondering if the Sereity would be better than the Goodyear Comfort Treads.
Running the shocks means when leaving the Air Conditioned Garage the shocks are about 80F and the ride is better than when leaving the car for a good while in theis Arizona Heat on a black parking lot where the temperature is about 115F the ride is worse ( I should more rotten and terrible but , oh heck I just did )

I'm wondering whether temperature is affecting the shocks. Last week was cooler and my Genesis ran fine on the Comfortreds. The last couple of days has averaged 95F - cooler than AZ but still hot, and the Genesis seems to be back in a bad mood again.

We now call the Genesis "Sybil". Perhaps I need to trade it and be done with it.

103 in Texas today. V8 still rides acceptably firm. I can't detect any difference made by temperature.

And stragely enough on the few occassions when my Genny rode OK it was warmer outside.
