  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Genesis is just freaking up all over the world. Tell you what...if they cannot even launch the car in time...can you (possibly) imagine the shit show if you wanted to get it serviced?

Hmmm...starting to get scared of this brand in the USA. Very worrisome.
It is extremely frustrating. From my perspective, who else is offering a rwd manual sedan with lsd and upgraded brakes not named BMW? I'm usually a fan of buying a slightly used car to not take the depreciation hit but the unique features this car has plus the 10/100 drivetrain warranty for the original owner had compelled me to buy it. The problem is, we literally can't!

I know I will be able to get mine serviced where I bought it.

I am talking USA here. At this point...might be able to get one somewhere on the highway...behind a car trailer.

I know you were talking USA, that is why I said what I did. If they can make the 'idea' work in Canada, they should be able to make it work in the US.

It appears that the US is not alone in launch delays...

Genesis: Oz launch pushed back to Q4 | CarAdvice
That's the last straw for me. Genesis/Hyundai have been stringing me along for months now and not told me the truth.
I will ask Genesis in Australia for a firm launch date or I'm walking.
Genesis need to give people some concrete answers. They are starting to look incompetent.

I've owned two Genesis with two different dealers. Service was prompt and easy.
Recent storm broke the passenger door window. Glass company uses a dealer local to them and had the glass in two days.

Seems they put service in place and it works well. You can worry for me, I'm not going to.

I understand the issues facing Hyundai, but by now they should have a decent US launch date. I have been to several dealers and all say they know nothing and don;t even show any on their allocation sheets and they are seeing inbound cars intl late July right now.

The solution is so simple and all the players are sure they know exactly what it is:
Corporate wants to insure the brand’s prestige by making requirements for dealerships
Some dealers want to sell Genesis but don’t want to up their game
Some dealers want to sell Genesis but don’t want too much competition so they can be profitable
Dealers sell Hyundais and have legal contracts that they can enforce regarding selling new Genesis
Some posters see corporate as trying to rip franchises away from dealers
Some posters see dealers as having a stranglehold on Genesis and their cars and are just greedy
States have very strong government dealership lobbys so they resist any change in status quo

So with so many folks knowing what to do, what’s holding everything up?

Seems to me Genesis could have held off launching the brand for a year or two more until all these issues were resolved
Or they could launch when they did and negotiate these issues as they go along.

Yes Genesis could have used their psychic powers and foreseen these issues one or two years before deciding to create the brand. Maybe they did. Of course there is no guarantee it would only take a year or two while being held hostage by their dealers.

What works for you?

Yeah they really messed up the roll out and it is not getting better. I have been to 2 dealers shopping a G80 Sport and the experience was anything but a luxury brand experience. Both dealers I was greated and handled by an obvious “Hyundai” sales person. Neither impressed me with what they knew about the G80 Sport nor was I treated like I was buying a higher brand. I can easily see the issue Hyundai has, they will never dent even the Japanese brands (Lexus, Acura, Infiniti) let alone the Germans. I will be honest if I were not really super interested in the G80 Sport I would have left never to set foot in another “Genesis” dealer.

If they insist on selling these side by side with Elantras then as soon as a customer walks in and says they are interested in a Genesis they should be handled by dedicated sales staff and not dressed in khakis and blue gold shirts.

And sorry the story of never having to step foot back in the dealer once I buy as they will valet service my car, you think I am going to trust the Hyundai valet gofer to drive my G80 Sport calmly back and forth the the dealer, yeah right, I don’t even trust most service techs handling my car for the service lane to the service bay.

Getting my car and driving it works for me.

Actually that was an open question for everyone, not particularly aimed a you. Just used to quoting for context.

But I bet it’s not a simple as you say. I bet you want a great dealer service experience, large number of dealers so you can get the lowest price, no pressure sales, nice showroom. Or am I mistaken?

It doesn't take psychic powers to understand the auto dealer franchise laws that are already on the books of most states. It just takes competent management that makes sure those things are looked into thoroughly.

I don't think it is fair to say that existing Genesis dealers are holding Genesis Motors hostage just because they are trying to enforce their rights and under the law, and to enforce their rights enumerated in the franchise contracts previously signed with Hyundai Motor America to sell Genesis branded cars starting in 2017.

Some dealers want to sell Genesis but don’t want too much competition so they can be profitable
I suppose every dealer would like that, but it was Genesis Motors who came up with the idea of only having 100 Genesis dealers in the USA starting with the 2019 model year vehicles. That is down from 350 dealers who previously signed or modified franchise agreements to sell the Genesis brand, and have been selling the G80 and G90 vehicles (does not include the all 800+ Hyundai dealers).

The two dealers I've used do have dedicated, trained, well dressed salesman. I'm sure some don't though. I was treated well even though I was wearing shorts and T shirt with a stain on it. I guess some dealers are more serious than other selling high end cars. There is another dealer that I visited once and will not go back.

As for the valet, I've not used it yet but most dealers seem to use retired guys looking to get out of the house a few hours.

Drive it, like it, buy it. The price is set by Genesis on the internet and that is what you pay. The agent is there to assist you. Technicians are Genesis certified and are the only ones who can touch the car other than the agent.

That is a great model and I agree but it’s not legal in the US to cut out the dealer in pricing and selling the car.

What are the chances the US will get this wheel that was specced on the Korean model? I'm not loving the Canadian choices... but I LOVE this wheel! Elegant with Sport appeal!

That is a very nice looking wheel I'd put it on my car, any car.
