G70 US Availability?

Alright, now that the barrage of marketing reviews are out, did anyone get a sense for a realistic launch date? Between the videos and the articles, I was able to see two possibilities. 1) Maybe September 2018 and 2) Maybe Q1/2019?
Dealer I spoke to this weekend said he thought Oct/Nov.

mang.

[edit:misspoke. not sept.]

No way would they be getting reviews and publicity already for a 2019 release. My guess is by 9/1, maybe sooner.

Actually most of the reviews I read/watched said August. That also coincides with what Beefer mentioned when he talked to someone that was also at the event, and before the embargo.

My only question with an August release... will that give them enough time for US owners to have a pre-order? Or will they just send them straight to dealers and it'll just be a free for all?

If they are going to set up for pre orders they can send the information to the dealers in an hour. Little more than an email with attachments. What we don't know is the status of agreements with dealers.

I'm unfamiliar with how the pre-order process works... so I would go online, select my dealer, build my car, and that's it? Then that information gets sent to the dealer and the dealer orders it from Genesis? Then the car is delivered to the dealer and the dealer notifies me?

Is that it?

If you want to pay sticker price, yes. There is always dealer haggling over price.

That is how it worked in Canada I think. But in the US market, I would expect a more traditional sales approach. i.e. go to a dealership, sit down with a salesman, haggle out a price or maybe just fixed price, then place an order with them or search inventory for a dealer transfer.

I'd be surprised if they use the online pre-order method here in the US due to the 'soon to be' established dealer arrangements and ensuring it is profitable for them with minimal competition. Of course I hope there is lots of competition (more dealers in a given area) so we can negotiate a better price!

Whatever the case, it'll be interesting to hear what they come up with. Personally, I wouldn't mind the Tesla model of pre-ordering as long as we didn't have to wait like people did for the Model 3.

I wouldn't mind more of a traditional process. I know that Genesis is trying to go with the online, agent oriented process of buying cars, but it could be different in the US... especially since traditional Hyundai dealers will be handling the sales. That would then allow for seeing multiple colors and potential haggling if possible

Also, if they want to get the cars out in August, I think they might be past the ability handle special pre-orders

This is what I would expect at this point as well, which I would also personally prefer.

Btw in my opinion it's a near certainty that there is an N-Performance version of this car coming. That's one of the reasons they hired Fayez Abdul Rahman.

Let's hope so, but maybe not 'til the next gen of vehicles (starting w/ the new G80) and would have a diff. performance moniker.

KBB released an article yesterday that highlights a little more of the differences between the different engines and then again between the trim levels throughout...

Also, let it be noted that while it said that pricing will be released later, it did say that the car will be on sale in August.

This was a great article, thanks for sharing. Does anyone have any idea what the differences are between taillights? Obviously the sport has "Dark tint taillight covers", but is it a drastic difference?

I'm not entirely sure, If I remember correctly, I think I read that a few people "really like the dark tinted taillights better" and that it was a "nice touch"... let me look and see if I can find some pictures

Based on these pictures, looks like a significant difference to me, especially when you mix the tinted taillights with the dark chrome and the dark wheels...

I think KBB tried to provide the trim differences, but I'm looking at the Sport/Sport Manual features and they don't quite make sense/jibe with what we've seen. E.g., Sport Manual will have leatherette and ventilated seats (not apparent from their list).

If on-sale date is August, fingers crossed for order guides soon so we can all stop speculating.

TL;DR -->

1. Hyundai dealers will continue to sell Genesis vehicles for the time being
2. The car will go on sale in "the next month or two"
3. The base model starts at $35,000
4. Apparently it is "beautiful and sexy to look at" and is "well proportioned", as was mentioned multiple times by Irvin throughout this interview
5. They had no comment about the upper-end pricing

And two things I found intriguing:
1. They didn't speak "Hyundai"... they referred to dealerships as "existing dealers" and the Hyundai Motor Group was just called "our parent company"
2. Apparently the G80 has the best residual value after 3 years among its competition (I thought we had determined that Genesis had terrible resale value?)

It seems that right now we are getting a lot of contradicting information about different trim levels.... fortunately me, though, I am only looking at the 3.3T Sport AWD so I needn't worry about the lower trim levels for my own well-being LOL

Both good pickups. Let me add a little of my own opinion.
1. Note that he did not say it would be sold by ALL existing dealers. I think that omission is significant. Also you are right in pointing out it will be for sale in the next month or two. That is August or September. Maybe not everywhere all at once?
2. I do not see any evidence that Genesis has terrible resale value. That was something that was thrown out by a poster here as a fact. I took a quick look at the residual for the G80 and currently it’s 54.7% . Also take a look at

Interesting thoughts on the dealerships and sales.. I like it.

As for the resale value, I must admit I did no research of my own and was simply going off of what people were saying on here!! I should do my due diligence before making statements like that!!

Hopefully the G70 will hold its value as good or better than that!
