Genesis G70 Reviews

1) The 10-spoke wheels pair with the bright chrome on cars that do not include the "Sport Appearance", like the 3.3T Prestige. Sport package cars get the black wheels, paired with dark chrome, plus the "Sport" quilting (black Nappa, tighter diamond pattern).

In the video by AoA, he shows this wheel on his tester which appears to be a Prestige 3.3 trim.

Anyone know if the bottom polished wheel will be available for the 3.3T in Prestige trim? So far, I can only confirm this wheel on the 2.0T Sport.
 
^ wait, the 10-spoke wheel comes on the 2.0T Sport in the US? that's a change from the CAD market. we get the dark 5 spoke wheel. i prefer the 10-spoke wheel so perhaps a trade with a nearby state is an option if someone wanted the 5-spoke rims!

Yeah, you may have a shot at this! From what I can see, the US release has the following wheels:

2.0 and 3.3 non Sport - 20 spoke (dual 10-spoke)
2.0 Sport - 10 spoke polished
3.3 Sport - 5 spoke black

I sure hope I'm wrong or that we'd at least have a wheel upgrade option.
 
The 2.0T Sport seems all over the place to be honest. In Canada, it's sorta a lower end side grade with some premium features (nappa leather), cut features, and a price point slightly higher than the automatic base trim.

For the manual and automatic US spec according to the press release, it has slightly more things than the prestige but doesn't cut any features, so I expect it to be slightly higher in price than the prestige and thus much different in price than Canada.

But the manual press cars in Maine were more like Canada's manual, in that they had cut content moreso (imitation leather, no sunroof), so if this ends up being the production model then expect another side grade price.

But anyway, point is that the 2.0T Sport is whack. Sucks for me because I want to estimate the price for the Sport automatic :(

CAD gets all the Sport package items that the 3.3T Sport gets, as well as sunroof & nappa leather. but we don't get cooled seats that the US car gets.

i agree the packaging seem all over the place and it will be interesting to see what the final trims look like. until i see a CAD 2.0T Sport model i am skeptical of the info so far which has been contradictory in some cases.

EDIT: i also see that US 2.0 Sports do not get rear seat HVAC ducts. CAD does get them. another curious deletion for US markets.

I think it was the prestige as it didn't have the blacked out chrome nor the sport quilted seats but still had the 360 camera

Great question. I asked that question in the comments on YouTube but no reply yet. If I receive a reply I will post it here.

What do you want to know about the CAD 2.0T Sport? I can provide specifics.

Just odd that didn't hear about it earlier.


IIRC, the Genesis BH sedan also had an aluminum hood. For the DH they went back to steel (guessing for cost reasons?) In any case, I believe in an effort to cut weight they'll be using more aluminum in some body panels henceforth (pretty much like what every other luxury carmaker has had to do).

They used a good bit of aluminum in the suspension components as well.

Not surprised they went back to aluminum for the hood (it was a necessity; and another reason for the G70 to be priced higher than the Stinger), but as I had stated before, if the Ioniq can get the an alum hood and hatch, then Genesis models should be able to get them as well.

So Car and Driver is thoroughly confused......

They turned this: Biermann jokingly called it a "drift mode”

Into this: "All-wheel-drive 3.3Ts also have a “drift” setting that skews the torque split further rearward and incorporates yaw damping control and “countersteer detection logic” to lend subtle assistance to your exhibitions. "

This is a screen shot of “Drift Mode” from the presentation so perhaps they are both right.

This is a screen shot of “Drift Mode” from the presentation so perhaps they are both right.

More like Genesis is trying to capitalize on how the Ford Focus RS having a drift mode (you can actually select "drift") generated a lot of free press for Ford. Something unusual as AWD tends to inhibit these kinds of shenanigans.

In this case, you turn off the electronic nannies and put it in sport mode (gets you 90% power to the rear). Genesis programmed it to stop the computer from intervening (like sending more power to the front wheels) when it gets input from the sensors that car is sliding sideways. But because it is not a real selectable mode there is confusion in how it is being reported by different outlets. With some making it sound like you can choose it in "drive mode select" like say "comfort" vs. the computer will let you drift if you turn everything off in sport mode (so its sort of "like" having a drift mode). With the latter being correct.

But I can't fault Genesis for doing everything it can to garner positive press.

I think it's nice that people can defeat the corrective controls when they want to but also nice that they have to do this as an active, multi-step process rather than just dialing it in. This car has enough power that inexperienced drives who decided to explore drift mode could get themselves into some real trouble. If it were available at the flick of a dial, I think more people might try it out to their peril. This way, you have to know that it's possible and take the extra steps to implement it. that doesn't completely remove the risks but it reduces them and puts the responsibility more squarely on the shoulders of the driver rather than the manufacturer.
 
While I have no intention to move the car in any direction other than in a straight forward path, in this string and in one of the test drives where the launch control was discussed, the term “nannies” is used.

Does that refer to traction control or sometime else?

Can a current owner post a picture or video cycling through the different camera options for both the front and rear facing cameras? Specifically I want to see the parking aid front side view camera shot (the one showing the front wheel from below the side mirror)...

I believe the front camera has a full front and the two side wheel shots below the mirror.

And doesn't the reverse one have the full rear view, but then doesn't it also have two views off to either side? What are those showing?

Fair enough... that is a bit needy. LOL. Perhaps just a brief explanation would suffice. I've seen multiple reviewers talk about the camera system but haven't actually explained all the different views that are available.

More of my own curiosity to see what the camera system is capable of.

If you check out TheStraightPipes Stinger daily drive video, I believe there is a portion that goes over the camera. I would link it but I'm at work, sorry!

If I get an opportunuity in the next day or two I will take a couple of pics. I like that if I pull up to a curb with the front end, the curb edge disappears on the camera yet I'm still a few inches away.
