  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Alternatives to G70?

About the same page as me. Except I like the stinger interior and can't afford a M2 (plus think it may be too small. There were rumors of giulia getting a 350hp v6 that would be nice but not waiting another year.

I know the M2 is too small for me as well, but I still have to drive it to know exactly what I'll be missing. Haha. I need a 4 door as it just wouldn't be worth the hassle of trying to put the kiddos in the back seats of a 2 door - nevermind the fact that I'd be automatically associated with those conceited BMW trust fund bro's you see driving around these days. Anyway, if those rumors turn out to be true about the Alfa (which it sounds like they won't) I would have to get the Giulia in that flavor. That thing is so dang awesome - and 350hp would be the sweet spot for sure... Even so, as it stands right now I'm still partial to the G70 despite not even having driven it yet. I am very keen on the sleeper factor of this relatively unknown Genesis.

You might not walk away believing that.

I also *might* believe the QV was worth $30k more if it was made by something other than FCA.

I’ve heard it and driven it. I think it’s fugly, plagued with issues (all Alfa’s)...and dealers are (once again) disappearing.

In terms of quality, value and performance...the G70 with the piggyback and a nice exhaust will be untouchable.

Just curious, is anybody in here also considering an Alfa Romeo Giulia? Specifically, I've been eyeing the Giulia Ti Sport w/LSD and adjustable dampers.

I've read that the 280hp figure is very conservative. Also, the mpg and lighter weight are attractive.

It seems like an in-between the G70 2.0T sport and 3.3T sport, in terms of performance and price.

Just to illustrate...
G70 2.0T Sport 0-60: ~7.4 seconds
Giulia 2.0T 0-60: 5.1 seconds
G70 3.3T Sport: 4.5 seconds

FYI: I got the G70 6spd 0-60 time from Alex on Autos' YouTube review.

That was actually my second choice ... it certainly came the closest to the G70 in terms of the fun to drive factor. Nice interior for the most part, and great steering and suspension. However then I drove the 3.3 G70 and it put it over the top ... plus the concerns about Alfa's reliability which the dealer tried to laugh off.

There is no 'tune' which will match what is physically a quad exhaust, and 505hp > 365hp. If you didn't hear the difference, you might want to go listen again. Closest we can get is a bimodal exhaust mod on the Stinger (dealer or third party), and it's not that close.

FCA's reputation put to rest any inclination I had - even if there was some way they could knock $30k off the price.

^^ the AR dealers are a joke. most unprofessional group i've 'worked' with. any of my peers who have recently considered an AR have been turned off the same way. lack of knowledge and nonchalant approach to everything. bunch of slacker millennials (yes, i know not all millennials are slackers) at our local dealers couldn't put down their massive tablet phones to show any amount of attention, unless it was to adjust their laughably skinny pants that kept riding up to show their sock-less feet and trendster loafers. they are basically a boutique network that was used to selling low volume specialty cars - or goofy Fiat's. now they are trying to play in the more mainstream or higher volume game, for which they need much more organization and structure. and actual management who know how to manage. and then try to get parts within a reasonable time frame...good luck.

Quad exhaust is aesthetics. I can guarantee you there will be an exhaust for the G70 that will make it sound brilliant. As for sound...I wasn't comparing to anything as I haven't heard the G70. But I know the sound, etc...just stay tuned on that point :)

As for numbers...

G70 Stock = 365 hp, 376 lb-ft
RaceChip = 422 hp, 509 lb-ft
BMS = 465 hp, 476 lb-ft

AR Gulia Quad = 505hp, 443 lb-ft

So as you can see...with the RaceChip...G70 will be quite close off the line (which is torque).

Those are good numbers...I definitely plan on chipping...kind of curious how it hits gas mileage, though. HMG doesn't make very efficient engines to begin with. G70 AWD will probably be governed to 130 like the Stinger.

The other decision is a nano coat of some kind...any thoughts on what is good there?

If I'm not mistaken both the Stinger and the G70 are governed to 270kph.

Stinger is only governed like that when you get the 18in all season tires so I think that's the only way you'll end up down at 130. I'll go for the 19in tires. I don't need all season.

Chipping this car will cost more than you think. You'll risk losing a 100,000 mile warranty for that mod. Buy an out of warranty Audi instead.
Read up before you post...we’ve already been through this.

Nope. You need the 3.3T RWD with summer tires to get the 270kph/167mph. Cars get governed to to tire as ordered from the factory. I.E.- AWD is all season tires so your car will be pinned at 130 or 140mph depending on reports of people who have hit the dyno or otherwise tested.

This is an insurance move by the dealer (most likely), the governor won't or can't be removed by the dealership once it's there. This is the main reason I intend to chip and swap tires.

This is true also. 18" gets governed. 19" summer RWD is the only non-governed version.

I guess I should have stated I own the 3.3T.

You can get 19" on the AWD version as well. Just depends on how your dealer ordered it. I live in Mississippi so there's no need for all season tires so even the AWD stingers we got had the 19" summer tires. Best of both worlds in my opinion.

Excellent..! You have the RWD then?

That would be ideal. Have you put it on a dyno though? If it was AWD from the factory, it's probably governed...or the big ass Stinger thread was wrong, or I missed something. IIRC there were people who had that situation and weren't happy to find out they had a governed ride. (GT 2 AWD NOT REALLY A STINGER!?!?)

You guys that want to try hitting 167 MPH should watch this first.

Speeding in the rain is still dumb...check.
Weaving in and out of heavy traffic is still dumb...check.
Gunning a Lamborghini to show off to your friends is still dumb...check.
Gunning a Lamborghini can cause it to burst into flames...check.
Other people still sometimes hit your car...check.
Picking a crappy road to speed on is still a bad idea...check.
Some people are fat bastards and should think twice before buying a Lamborghini...check.

mang. :)

(PS- I like the idea that I can, more than the reality of whether I would. I'm a pretty conservative driver...with the exception of a track day or three.)

Interesting. I found the exact opposite to be true of my local Alfa Romeo dealership compared to the others thus far. Even so, I can certainly understand having a bad dealership experience souring the appeal of the car. For me, Volvo did that. I was in love with the Polestar before driving it, but after dealing with their salesman my mind was changed.
